At least it explains why Tom didn't chuck the gun in the lough after shooting Adam.

And yes, the countryside looks lovely. Really want to go to Belfast now. Never been.

Buggerthebotox · 15/03/2021 08:11

X post with @soup

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/03/2021 08:25

@TheSpottedZebra

I missed where the wife was. He shot Corry (and brother) but what happened to the wife if he didn't kill her?
I think she got away, hence Series 2.
CaptainMyCaptain · 15/03/2021 08:28

It was all complete rubbish.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 15/03/2021 08:31

@Butteredtoast55

Also - and I realise this is a tiny detail amongst all the massive plot holes - wouldn't forensics show he'd shot Keenan once from a distance and once at close range? Wouldn't that look suspicious?
The third was that woman's husband, Harkin or something, that Twomey kept in touch with on his burner phone? He was involved in a delivery of arms to NI, I think anyway. But who knows, I certainly won't be checking in for S2, was hugely disappointed.
Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 15/03/2021 08:31

Quote fail! I was responding to the poster who asked who the third victim was, doh!

MrsClatterbuck · 15/03/2021 08:35

@JaneJeffer

The doctor wasn't the brightest woman. Why didn't she ring the police as soon as she knew where the gun was instead of going Nancy Drew?
Agree and Nancy Drew there's a blast from the past. Loved those books.
LadyEloise · 15/03/2021 08:43

Izzy must have a hearing problem considering she couldn't hear all the commotion going on in the parlour between her father and the doctor.
I thought it was a very odd scene in the locker room between Izzy and the doctor. The doc ignored all the others in the room. The others ignored the doc, their lecturer.
I was totally wrong about Susan Lynch's character being Tom's wife. Blush

Earlybirdcatches · 15/03/2021 08:47

I don’t think Torie ever thought Pat Keenan was Goliath, but he was close enough to the victims to use to lure the police into reopening the case by leaving the crane calling card to make it look like Goliath had done it.

Looks like Emma turned into a Protestant allie with her lover David. They tricked JN into killing the Catholic gun runners (priest and Joe)

Who looked after his baby daughter when he was doing all this killing and burying bodies? Surely a babysitter would have wondered where Emma was and been interviewed at the time of her disappearance.

How did JN suddenly become an expert sailor and manage to get three bodies to the island.

Where did the IRA guns that they were fighting over disappear to?

How did Torie lure PK out of the hotel conference? Wasn’t she a complete stranger to him? But he’s supposed to recognise her, and drive off with her.

So many plot holes. And the fact they were all allowed to stay on the case when they were either suspects or victim’s family was ridiculous.

TheLaughingGenome · 15/03/2021 08:51

The Independent review isn't very complimentary ... especially about Izzy being brought to the massive crime scene at the end and being allowed to run round screaming.

Actually Izzy was a very annoying character and I don't think she was supposed to be. I think her and Doc Tori were supposed to be feisty?

Will JN be in Series 2? I should imagine once Keenan's postmortem is performed and the close headshot is confirmed, JN should be arrested and that's that.

PintPot · 15/03/2021 08:58

The only explanation is that the NI tourist board wanted to buy a huge advert for 2021/2 staycations, and someone at the BBC said, 'Fine, give us the cash, tell us where you want the lingering panning shots, and we'll knock up a script over the weekend.'

If you slow it right down, there are probably single frames with AIR BNB STRANGFORD LOUGH in between the glaring-through-the-blinds.

KatherineJaneway · 15/03/2021 09:51

After the twist at the end of episode 2 I watched 3 but it dragged and 4 was a let down. I won't be watching series 2.

I mean who goes to a house in the middle of nowhere with your potential boyfriend's daughter then invites the boyfriend along as you want to 'move the relationship forwards '?

No I'll give series 2 a miss, can't be doing with a series full of long stares.

MerylStropp · 15/03/2021 10:18

Agree there are too many plot holes and continuity errors. Clearly left open-ended for S2... where is the wife? Niamh and Birdy were so obviously on to Brannick - we didn't see their reaction to the final outcome, but I predict they'll be unconvinced and will set out to uncover the truth. Cue plenty more puzzled frowning from Niamh. As for Birdy - I suspect he's smarter than he looks. There will also be emotional turmoil when Izzy finds out what her daddy did in the past, and dilemma of reuniting with her mother who abandoned her.

Re the "dark humour" - I did enjoy the bit where Birdy told Twomey he was under investigation. Can't believe they got him to do it, but it was funny in its own way. Grin

BruceAndNosh · 15/03/2021 11:08

matching great feck off animal jewellery

I can only assume that Tom and his wife met when they 10 and spent their pocket money at Argos. You know that chain is going to turn your neck green

BruceAndNosh · 15/03/2021 11:11

Which explains why Tom and Doc meet up in final episode in Botanic Gardens (parking near which is nigh impossible) instead of in the car park of Lisburn Road Marks and Spencers (easy parking)
DuncinToffee · 15/03/2021 11:27

It's laughable, an intelligence agent giving her lover the most obvious jewellery. A doctor who executes a kidnap in the most professional way, believes everything Tom tells her without question, a daughter who is oblivious to anything around her whilst cooking, the on/off snow, gun hidden in a deserted shed etc etc
Plot holes? The plot was one big hole.

Small mercy, no love scene between JN and doc.

BruceAndNosh · 15/03/2021 11:57

The hidden gun really annoyed me.
Tom was able to tell both Tori and Keenan EXACTLY which lobster pot gun was hidden under. and they both located the spot.
My DH can't find the potato peeler when I tell him "It's in the far left drawer"

oneglassandpuzzled · 15/03/2021 12:02

I thought everyone was
Adamant that Goliath had to be a police officer? They seemed to drop that view without query at the end.

JaneJeffer · 15/03/2021 12:10

I've seen better plots on Scooby Doo.

PintPot · 15/03/2021 12:18

@oneglassandpuzzled

I thought everyone was Adamant that Goliath had to be a police officer? They seemed to drop that view without query at the end.
Were we supposed to be left with the impression that the key players in the police knew exactly what had happened, but this way JN/Twomey's own shady dealings were covered up, and this complicated, compromised way of life could move on/a second series could be pitched?

I genuinely did NOT care who got arrested at the end.

ChequerBoard · 15/03/2021 12:19

Would have worked better to have the ending as a cliffhanger - will Tom get away with it or not? Such a damp squib after the shocking end to ep2z

oneglassandpuzzled · 15/03/2021 12:26

Oh, interesting, Pintpot.

LadyEloise · 15/03/2021 12:32

I thought Birdy was great. The best thing in it. When someone said he was the actor from The Young Offenders, I was gobsmacked. And yet similar gormlessness but with a better haircut.

There are three kinds of people in the world - Those who make things happen.
Those who watch things happen.
Those who wonder what happened.

Yes I know Birdy had the cop on to get JN followed. Smile

Buggerthebotox · 15/03/2021 12:54

I'm coming round to @PintPot's way of thinking too.

I actually quite enjoyed it in the end despite the plot holes.

Roll on Line of Duty next week though. 7 days to go.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2021 13:14

I thought it was ok

Yes few plot holes
Like where is the wife and wohid she really leave her baby rather Then tell cops it was hubby who shot 3 people
