Very good theory in your last paragraph @Dugee - the idea that it's a collection of people on both sides who are Goliath would probably not be too far from what I imagine happened in reality.

Dugee · 01/03/2021 21:15

Thanks @BenoneBeauty I can't wait until Sunday!

Dugee · 01/03/2021 21:18

@Graciebobcat

Given that this is part of the UK its a bit shameful not to know about this.

Not really, I think this is quite a specific detail to know about unless you are directly involved. I know quite a bit about the NI conflict and didn't know this.

I thought I was reasonably well informed, however I had no idea that the Unionists had been bombing the Republic until I read an article a couple of years ago. That's what I mean about the media blackout, those of us who grew up before the GFA only really heard about one side of the story.

My post was about the impact th tv series has had on me. Surely that is legitimate to comment.

Sometimes tv shows do cover really difficult issues such as sexual violence.

Are you saying only comment in one sort of way eg I enjoyed, I didn't like x or y - pretend it hadn't made me think?

That's very repressive.

I don't mean to repress you, I'm enjoying this thread and I don't want it to end up being deleted.

As Benonebeauty says, you are free to start a thread in politics if you would like to discuss that area in more detail. There are some very knowledgeable posters over there too.

I wonder if Tom's house overlooking the island is so that he can keep an eye on the comings and goings? Maybe he's got cameras trained on it. There must be a reason he lives there because it seems a bit contrived otherwise. He could have known the bodies were there all along but had to feign surprise and then was forced to search the island because Niamh had heard the information from Adam too. Tom deliberately searched next to the wrong tree.

I think I'm now worried about Niamh too, having seen what just happened to Adam.

I think that Tom and Twomey might be on to each other. Twomey thinks Tom is covering for Emma and Tom knows Twomey doesn't want the story about Goliath to come out. Tom might not know who Goliath is, for his own safety. He just knows that Emma does know and he has promised to protect her. Twomey is watching Tom to see if Emma resurfaces, so that she can be taken out if she does reappear.

Jesus ! Norn Iron Shetland just took a turn for the Line of Duty. I need to go back and rewatch.

On BBC NI they are advertising a helpline number for those people impacted by the storylines. I wonder if those numbers are being broadcast on the other regional BBCs? This is such recent history. We are still hearing on the news about the stories of the disappeared.

BenoneBeauty · 01/03/2021 23:46

I'm watching in England @JollyGreenGiantess & there was no helpline given at the end.

Dugee · 01/03/2021 23:58

I didn't notice any helplines either.

Graciebobcat · 02/03/2021 06:35

The first thing we studied in my History GCSE (in 1991, in England) as part of the modern world studies element was the NI conflict and the roots of it. So I certainly knew about what the Loyalists did as well. I also remember it being reported on the news, seemingly dozens of other documentaries, factual dramas and extended news analysis, plus online discussion since the 00s. I certainly don't recall hearing only one side of the story.

1990s · 02/03/2021 07:06

Whoever Goliath was, he/ she wanted to derail the peace process.

I thought they said that Goliath was killing people who were a threat to the peace process, so that it wouldn’t be disrupted?

I may well have got that the wrong way round... Smile

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/03/2021 07:23

@Dugee obv very quiet at work 😂😂😂

I knew the Loyalists were attacking Irish targets in NI, I just don't remember learning about the attacks in the Republic.
LadyEloise · 02/03/2021 09:16

@BenoneBeauty
I looked at the cast list and Susan Lynch is mentioned. She hasn't appeared yet so my hunch is she may be Emma. She's a well known actress so will probably play a main character.
Just a hunch. I could be totally wrong.

@1990s I too thought it was said that Goliath was killing people who were a threat to the Peace Process. Dugee thinks the opposite.

Dugee · 02/03/2021 11:17

@LadyEloise It sounds like a plausible hunch to me.

Dugee · 02/03/2021 11:21

@1990s I too thought it was said that Goliath was killing people who were a threat to the Peace Process. Dugee thinks the opposite.

If I get chance, I'll re watch E1.

I think my theory of Goliath potentially being a group of people (especially a high profile group of people) could still be the case. Either a group of people willing to do anything for the peace process to proceed, or a group of people willing to do anything to derail it. I'll let you know once I've rewatched E1.

mrsfeatherbottom · 02/03/2021 13:56

Susan Lynch is on IMDB for Bloodlands as Heather somebody but that could be Emma's new name/identity, I suppose.

LadyEloise · 02/03/2021 16:56

That's my theory mrsfeatherbottom but it's only a wild guess.

RandomDent · 02/03/2021 17:48

I thought I saw Susan Lynch as a senior uniformed officer in the first ep. Maybe she had a bigger part but was cut? Or it was just someone who looked like her?

Cocolapew · 02/03/2021 17:52

Susan Lynch is playing a senior police officer in Unforgotten on a Monday night @RandomDent, maybe that's what you're thinking off?

RandomDent · 02/03/2021 17:59

No I don’t watch that. She did have a line.

Cocolapew · 02/03/2021 18:10

There was a senior female officer that was moved from the station JN was, though it wasn't SL. I don't remember seeing her.

Cocolapew · 02/03/2021 18:14

I did see someone I know in the second episode though, he was an extra when they were walking away from the rugby Grin

ImAncient · 02/03/2021 18:32

Just finished episode 2. Did not expect that. I need to watch both episodes again!

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 02/03/2021 18:39

What if Tom's wife was faking being in love with David the brother as she was undercover infiltrating his paramilitary organisation. But Tom thought they really were having an affair.

Tom being up to dodgy stuff explains why he didn't report it when his daughter was snatched.

I thought the pendant might have been planted on the corpse, it looked a bit too shiny, but why I don't know.

1990s · 02/03/2021 20:53

@Cocolapew

Susan Lynch is playing a senior police officer in Unforgotten on a Monday night *@RandomDent*, maybe that's what you're thinking off?
I almost said exactly this! I was sure she’d been in it... nope other show Blush
