Anyone watching?

I've just recently read the book and thought it was ok but then got a bit strange.

Hopefully the series will be a good watch though.

I think Rob was himself in love with David.

There's no 'thinking'! This is exactly it & it was made absolutely clear, plenty of times.

Rob was obsessed with David from the moment he saw him. (Implausible, but just another example of being implausible. Remember Rob adored Adele up to the moment he decided to inhabit her body & kill her 🙄)

@OneMorePieceofCheese

I didn't understand Louise's night terrors and the pills / suicide / fire she kept dreaming of. Was she supposed to have had a turbulent past? Was this something that was in the book but didn't make it across properly?
I think Louise's mum died by suicide after taking an overdose. I think Louise found the body.
Yogatomorrow · 28/02/2021 08:44

Just finished watching it. Many questions, a few of which have been answered by this thread.

But i am having trouble remembering the timeline of when Adele met louise. It was outside adam's school. Presumably adele engineered it, but had Louise and david shagged in a place that Adele could astral project to (so as to see it)?

The only place could have been the office, but i swear Adele and lou had become friends by then. As far as i understand Adele only befriended lou because of the affair. I can't bear going back and re-watching to find out.

Yogatomorrow · 28/02/2021 08:55

Just found out the answer to my own question: www.vulture.com/article/behind-her-eyes-premiere-recap-episode-1-chance-encounters.html

Louise and david had only met at the bar (quick kiss) and it couldn't have been possible for adele to "watch" by astral. And another meeting at the office where they had an awkward conversation. Was adele spending all her day watching david at the office? That is the only way, she could have targeted louise.

Plots holes do my head in. Need to busy myself Smile

It was bothering me whilst I was watching, and it's been bothering me ever since - who did Eve Hewson remind me of? It's just come to me - Isabella Rossellini, as she was in 'White Nights' back in the 80s. Phew. I can stop thinking about it now :)

carcarbinks · 02/03/2021 19:05

@feistymumma

Was really enjoying it until episode 5 where I thought what nonsense is this? Had I known I wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole. Wish I could get my time back :)
I agree with this 100%. So disappointing!
Crimblecrumble1990 · 02/03/2021 19:06

@Yogatomorrow

Yes I think she saw their conversation in the office about their first meeting and kiss etc then 'bumped' into Louise the following day.

Iirc Adele went straight to bed when David left for his first day of work so she must have been watching all day. (And she'd been around his office the day before so she could picture it)

SapphosRock · 02/03/2021 19:10

Watched the first couple of episodes, thought it was ok, got a bit bored. Googled what happened at the end and glad I didn't persevere with it, sounds too woo for me:

Tiredmum100 · 02/03/2021 19:41

I thought it was good up until episode 4. Episode 5 &6 were like WTF! I thought it was a psychological thriller and was surprised the turn it took. I watched the last 2 episodes last night. I didn't like it at all and found it disturbing. Poor Adele, Louise and Adam. Poor little boy, why didn't RobLouise just leave Adam with his dad. That would have been better. As others have said its one of those series you keep thinking about. I even dreamt about it last night, woke up and needed to go to the toilet in the night and was a bit scared someone was going to be watching me and then was hoping they didn't try switching bodies with me when I was dreaming 😆

MsTSwift · 02/03/2021 19:45

Haven’t got to the end but I felt sorry for Louises neighbors all that noisy sex when with David and shouty nightmares while living in a flat!

Hels20 · 06/03/2021 07:58

Finished it - ok. Not as gripping as I had hoped. Tom Batsman’s accent was really grating. But I think he is from Oxfordshire?!

Anyway - can anyone explain the fire at her parents house? Did Adele set the place on fire (she said she wasn’t there when it happened)....and why was she in Rehab? She hadn’t tried drugs before Rob.

EarringsandLipstick · 06/03/2021 08:40

@Hels20

The fire at her parents' house was an accident. At the time, suspicion was cast on David but it was without any basis. In the series, it acts to confuse is about David's motives.

She was in treatment due to the trauma of her parents' death, I think.

Notreallyawaitress · 06/03/2021 18:24

Slightly off topic but the initial setup reminds me of something else I’ve seen fairly recently.
Very swish white decorated house, crazy wife drugged up on pills and supposedly nice husband keeps phoning to check on her?
Anyone remember it?

thelightishere · 06/03/2021 19:45

Also one who struggled with the acting. I read a book years ago about AP (and subsequently tried it myself Grin - didn't work) so actually think the storyline was pretty good. But the acting killed it for me, especially Louise and David.

LIamaDelRey · 06/03/2021 23:29

big little lies had a controlling dv husband but Nicole wasn't taking meds afaik? sleeping with the enemy, same.

user1494055864 · 07/03/2021 16:19

I nearly switched off after the first 10 minutes, as I thought the set, and acting were dreadful, and I thought Louise was Adams sister, not mum.
I'm so glad I carried on watching, I thought it was brilliant, and never saw that ending coming! I just thought she had killed Rob.
Slightly confused when Adele went to get drugs, but still never guessed why.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 10/03/2021 22:29

I really enjoyed watching it but then was utterly disturbed by the ending!

Like some pps, keeping thinking back to it.

Just thinking poor Adam! And, although I don’t actual believe this, I think the idea was to plant the idea that this could happen in rl and some people aren’t who you think they are.

I’m going to pretend in my head that Ian gets Adam to live with him, and they have no more to do with fake Louise (really Rob). I don’t really care about David as he’s an idiot.

Roomba · 12/03/2021 19:06

@Covidcorvid

Well I thought Rob was alive the whole time...but not in the way it happened!

So I was convinced they’d decided to kill david and it was his body in the well. And that Rob had been impersonating David for the last ten years.

Think my story line was better!

My friend recommended it and said let me know what you're thinking as you watch it. This was my theory too until it all went weird. And I agree, a better story. But I did very much enjoy watching this, purely because it engrossed me and I was enjoying discussing my increasingly bizarre theories throughout Grin. I kept saying 'I have no idea what the weird sleep stuff has to do with it all though - maybe it's all a dream, Dallas Style?'

Now I'm wondering if my 8 year old would notice if I suddenly became Sick Boy from Trainspotting. I would THINK SO!

Roomba · 12/03/2021 19:10

Also, what kind of solicitor would allow their very young, vulnerable, institutionalised client to sign over all their family wealth to a man who she wasn't even married to yet? Who was widely suspected of killing her parents for her money?

I know, like that's the unrealistic bit... But why did she sign her money over to him in the first place?

the80sweregreat · 27/03/2021 12:01

I binged this over a few nights.
I really enjoyed it and have been looking up astral projection online! I've heard of astral plains and people becoming pocessed by others , but not traveling into your soul!
The bodies traveling around was well done and I just knew it wouldn't go well for Adele once Rob got the hang of it! He was so jealous of everyone and clearly fancied David. I thought they might have an affair. I do think they were both possibly bi sexual? There was chemistry there.
I liked Louise a lot and poor Adam will be left out now . He knows that Louise isn't his real mum :( how do you prove it though ?
Rob is the evil one here. He just wanted someone else's life rather than try to improve his own one.
Adele and Louise were just pawns to use and abuse at will.
The pidgeon was Rob I think checking up on Louise.

It was a bit different and I bet we will now see a lot of similar fiction around with 'traveling souls! '

bonfireheart · 28/03/2021 11:18

The thing that annoyed me the most (apart from the shoes) was why was Louise reading Rob's diary so slowly...one day at a time...pretty sure she could have read it in one sitting?
