Anyone watching?

I've just recently read the book and thought it was ok but then got a bit strange.

Hopefully the series will be a good watch though.

I didn't dislike it Tango - it made sense of a lot of things. I mean it was weird certainly but tied up the oddities

Yes, I think that was the worst part midnight - poor Adam he was such a nice boy and Louise a lovely mum.

Uptoongirl · 23/02/2021 14:13

Just finished it, I quite liked it but it wasn't amazing. Acting was good apart from Louise's friend. I did guess what was happening/happened but I do read a lot of books that have similar storylines! Reminded me of Christopher Pike which I read when I was younger.

I reckon they could have done it over three or four episodes and it would have been better. Problem with doing it over six is that viewers have invested in four episodes or so before it starts really alluding to astral projection and I think it makes people feel a bit duped. If it was a bit clearer early on it was going to take that sort of route it would have been better. I know they showed the night terrors / doors earlier but I think most people watching wouldn't have been expecting it to go down the road it did!

EarringsandLipstick · 24/02/2021 00:41

Still a bit disturbed by the ending, little Adam in the back of the car knowing something isn't right.

I binge-watched the lot & really really wished I hadn't.

I'm so upset by poor Adam. That last look back from the front of the car from 'Louise' aka Rob. I hate anything involving kids being upset / hurt, so I just can't take this idea, of his mum disappearing, he knows it but can't know it. 💔

I thought the acting was pretty rubbish, although Eve Hewson did ok. The plot was like Swiss cheese, the ridiculous coincidences at the start, the stupid bits like Louise being able to easily listen in on the phone calls in work. I persisted with it as I knew there was a plot twist & really wanted to get to it.

I feel duped by the ridiculous story ... and Adam, and poor Louise. I'm too invested now, I know. Really wish I hadn't watched it.

CherryValanc · 24/02/2021 08:22

Funnily enough I thought Eve Hewson was the worst of them for acting. Louise (don't know the actress) was very good, as was the boy who played Adam.

The whole coincidences plot was on purpose though wasnt it. All explained by the end.

I did like it but I don't think I'd recommend it mostly because you can't tell who the ending would annoy!! I know some people hate endings they didn't see coming.

Teardrop2021 · 24/02/2021 10:02

CherryValanc how can you say she was was the worse her performance was pretty thrilling to be honest and kept you guessing.

FuckingBUTTERbeans · 24/02/2021 10:28

I hate anything super natural. I didn't realise. I thought it was a lovely psych drama but oh no. It felt such a let down.

Just came on to see if there was a thread on this and I couldn't agree more with this comment. Also agree with PP that said would have been better to stop watching at episode 4. Even if you could buy into the astral projection stuff the body swapping was so much more ridiculous.

Agree too - with no warning that this could be the end in any previous episodes. It is like at school when you write a piece and then end it with "and then I woke up, it was all a dream"

Cop out ending

Brilliant! Agree 💯 with this.

Because that was down to the plot, not individually her acting.

I don't think I feel it was a cop out ending. There were hints at from the start - which made sense when the Willow the Whisps turned up.

Babymamamama · 24/02/2021 23:10

Ahhh I’m so annoyed .......that astral travelling malarkey put me off the whole story. Why mix genres what on earth is the point of that? The acting was clunky throughout granted but I kind of liked it until they started wizzing around like little magical fairies. Ridiculous.

Mummy195 · 25/02/2021 07:43

I binged it all. Loved it. Thought the acting was good. I've seen both actresses in other films and I am surprised anyone thinks they are bad !

I love it when a film throws a spanner, even though I did not expect the fantasy as I was watching a thriller/drama. Takes you out of your comfort zone.

After it ended, I kept thinking about what their future could be. I just thought LouRob would probably send Adam to live with his father, as an excuse that he can bond with the new baby. After all, she would not want Adam around contradicting everything as ' that's new, you don't like that' or 'but mum, you love to do this.' etc. He could possibly fake niceties every other weekend I suppose. That would give her the chance to dedicate all her time to David and do her step-ford wife thing.

Also, David was drinking and cheating and really unhappy because he had known Adele all his life, and could subconsciously see the difference - then there is the hiding of Rob's body on top. LouRob could get away with it, blinding David with adoration - with a few hiccup moments from friends and family ofcourse (whom I presume he would avoid as much as possible).

LIamaDelRey · 25/02/2021 07:50

From teardrop's link mummy - The book gave Rob's inner thought to be as follows...

“There is still one small obstacle to overcome for our happiness to be complete. David might not have known Louise well, but Ian does and Adam does. Those links need to be severed. […] Adam’s departure from my life will need to be somewhat more dramatic. It shouldn’t be too difficult to arrange. Children are notoriously accident prone.”

CherryValanc · 25/02/2021 07:55

Have to say I did think Rob was a right plonker getting married again so quickly. Doesn't learn easily doesn't he!!

Mummy195 · 25/02/2021 08:23

@LIamaDelRey

Ah, Ok. Thanks for pointing out the link, I had not read it, nor the book.

It's clear we were presented with a much tamer Rob in the series. No cat deaths, burning down a building for a slight etc. At the rehab he had seemed reasonably nice and kind towards Adele. Then after seeing his home life in the estate, we just thought he was consumed with envy for Adele's life and obsession with David. But the book version is a total psycho.

Mummy195 · 25/02/2021 08:25

Did you mean David @CherryValanc ?

Yeah, you would think after the trauma he would want to take things easy.

CherryValanc · 25/02/2021 08:53

Yes meant David!!

louise5754 · 25/02/2021 08:57

Just finished it. Wow!!

louise5754 · 25/02/2021 09:07

Had to rewatch the last episode. I totally missed the bit where Rob went into Louise. I kept thinking something has to go wrong. Didn't twig her now liking boats.

louise5754 · 25/02/2021 09:16

Why was Louise visualising once in Rob / Adele's house? Was it to find her quickly before the fire got worse?

Uptoongirl · 25/02/2021 09:19

I was thinking about this last night, it would be more interesting in some ways to see how Rob got around certain situations. Fair enough when he swapped with Adele he knew her well and she was a very young adult but what about Louise? Pin numbers, friends, birthdays, medical history etc.

Also my main thing was why would Rob have been so bothered about clinging onto David? He had Adele's money/body and could have been living the life of riley...although maybe he knew as an addict if he didn't stay with David he would be on a downward spiral. Also why was David so heavily sedating Adele, yes she had threatened Marianne but hardly calls for keeping your wife spaced out and keeping tabs on her to make sure she was at home every day.

Rob was gay wasn’t he? So I’m guessing it wasn’t just about the money but he also fancied David?
SD1978 · 25/02/2021 09:30

Was enjoying it until the end with all that astral projection crap. Had recommended it initially to a few people and had to tell them to back away!

Mummy195 · 25/02/2021 09:31

@louise5754

She wanted Adele to wake up and run out of the house on fire. But she fell into AdeleRob's trap because he had paralysed AdeleRob instead.

And once Rob was inside Lou, she could play the wannabe hero who tried to save Adele, to endear herself more to David.

Mummy195 · 25/02/2021 09:43

@Uptoongirl

I think the everyday logistics would be easy to get around as he literary has Lou's face and fingerprints. So producing ID, saying you are confused etc. That is why in my thoughts, I figured he would distance himself from family and friends to avoid the question of why is Lou so forgetful. She already shut down the bff, so if she avoids her, there won't be to many q's. Also the neighbour mostly looks after Adam so if she moves away with Adam, that's problem solved. Lou also looks young and fit, so I can't imagine there would be that many issues on the medical front.

I think David was a big part of wanting Adele's life on top of the money. He is basically obsessed with him.

I think the sedation was also mostly because of the complete personality transplant.

Teardrop2021 · 25/02/2021 09:58

I don't get why people like ghost stories but they don't like the slight element of paranormal of dreams and soul travels and astral projectional. I don't think it was over done like some films are over done CGI it was fairly tastefully done and fit in with the story it was telling .One movie that springs to mind is the Robin Williams move about the dream world is what dreams may come true but many seem fine with that level of content. Alot of story telling is fiction.
