Is anyone watching this on c5 shortly? I'm fascinated by how brazen her Mother was. Poor, poor child :(

@Ginfordinner if your friend had any professional knowledge of the family them she shouldn’t be speaking to ANY one outside work about it.

Opinion is fine, professional knowledge isn’t.

MissEliza · 10/02/2021 23:20

I recall that the police put her in front of the cameras because they thought she was involved and wanted to observe her behaviour. PP's friends may have been unprofessional to reveal suspicions but it happens.

JellyNellie · 10/02/2021 23:24

I hope Shannon is now living a happy and safe life,I do hope Shannon brings a book out to tell her side of the story.

This was about two years after the case.

Ginfordinner · 10/02/2021 23:26

And for all I know it might just have been her opinion.

skodadoda · 10/02/2021 23:27

@Pebbledashery

I just can't believe her mother thought she could have gotten away with it.
There are some people who barely possess a brain cell.
HaveANiceFuckingDay · 10/02/2021 23:27

OMG I’ve just read that last April a surrogate got pregnant with a child for her after sleeping with her paedo fiancé !! As she’s desperate for a baby
Her fiancé had sexual activity with a 15 year old and was convicted
I’ve seen images too , she doesn’t look much different apart from her hair is black
I hope social services are involved

TheresAnEyeInMeSoup · 10/02/2021 23:29

Can convicted criminals even change their name ? It would make them hard to find in the system if Karen Mathews went to Andrea Taylor ? Youd never be able to keep tabs on her

Didn't they do this with Jamie Bulger's killers? I'm not sure if that's because they were kids themselves when they did what they did, or if the horrific nature of what they did meant they would get lynched. KM would probably get lynched too so my bet is she has changed identity.

Nicknacky · 10/02/2021 23:29

@Ginfordinner It doesn’t matter if it was afterwards. Especially if she tells someone who posts about it on mumsnet.

Opinion is fine, genuinely but once they start to talk about information they know through work that’s a different matter.

Ginfordinner · 10/02/2021 23:30

I will ask for my posts to be deleted then @Nicknacky

Cindie943811A · 10/02/2021 23:31

@MissEliza but isn’t it usual for parents to make an appeal when a child goes missing? If the Police hadn’t arranged an appeal then the news media would have wanted to know why and it could have alerted KM to fact she was suspected. I’d have worried about S’s safety if they’d realised police were onto them - might have been tempted to dispose of her.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 10/02/2021 23:33

Yes @theresaneyeinmesoup
I think it’s because they were very young and they didn’t the go to prison but a young children’s rehabilitation centre .
One of them has turned his life around , the other keeps getting nicked for having indecent images of children on his computer
They relocated them , gave them new identity at the cost of millions

Pebbledashery · 10/02/2021 23:37

This was also very interesting.

TheresAnEyeInMeSoup · 10/02/2021 23:38

Thanks @HaveANiceFuckingDay, KM may well have the same identity then. In which case she deserves all she gets.

I feel sick when I think of Jamie Bulger, those kids should have been moved to prison when legally old enough.

notangelinajolie · 10/02/2021 23:38

Not watched it yet so not reading the thread but this is still shocking all these years later. Poor kid Sad

AnnieSnap · 10/02/2021 23:40

@enjoyingscience

I can’t imagine that any social worker would allow a baby a single day in that household *@HaveANiceFuckingDay*.

I hope Shannon is getting support from the system. We’re there other siblings too?

It’s not up to a Social Worker though, it’s up to the court. Decisions must take account of claims and any evidence that the mother has become more responsible and ‘a safer pair of hands’. If she is in a relationship with a known paedophile and didn’t agree to end that, any new baby would be permanently removed though.
Pebbledashery · 10/02/2021 23:43

In the documentary on YouTube, she's stuffing her face with chips the day after her daughter disappeared.. If my daughter disappeared I wouldn't be able to eat.. Let alone go down the chippy and get cheesy chips with gravy!!

I believe poor Shannon was know to soical services from a youngish age, as she was often left with unsavoury people who could pose a risk to her and her siblings. The biological dad of Shannon won a court order to prevent all soical services information being included on the serious case review. I believe he was violent too, although towards KM I’m not sure about the children.

WitchesGlove · 10/02/2021 23:50

@HaveANiceFuckingDay

I dont think there’s any reason why she would not be able to see her bio father unless he disappeared from her life
There must be a reason, otherwise after Karen went to prison, they could just have given custody to him....
Adirondack · 11/02/2021 00:00

I clearly remember watching Karen Matthews at her first press appeal, and she said ‘Shannon was...’ and as soon as she said ‘was’, I shouted ‘she did it!’ Because no mother would EVER, EVER describe their missing child in the past tense.

veeeeh · 11/02/2021 00:01

From what I can remember this happened on the back of she who cannot be mentioned in Portugal. And it went from there.

One child found, another not.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 11/02/2021 00:12

@wewillmeetagain

Im pretty sure i read somewhere that KM lives in Reading.
Apparently Maxine Carr does too. Clearly its the place to be Hmm
ZoeCM · 11/02/2021 00:20

I think her mother was desperately seeking validation and attention

I'm pretty sure it was mostly about the money. Apparently she was inspired by all the donations to the Find Madeleine fund.

Nith · 11/02/2021 00:23

@Ginfordinner

And for all I know it might just have been her opinion.
From what you say, she was expressing an opinion based on knowledge fo the family obtained through work. So she did indeed act very unprofessionally.
ZoeCM · 11/02/2021 00:34

@Bluntness100

I have some insight into this, a friend is a senior police officer. At the time, when she was just making the appeal and everyone thought the daughter was missing, we were having dinner and I mentioned it being awful and he said quietly. “We think it’s the mother” . When I expressed surprise, he just nodded snd said “ we think the mothers done it, it’s not what it seems”

So the police suspected from very early on. And were right.

Surely that police officer shouldn't have said that? If it had turned out that KM was innocent, that comment would have fuelled the "no smoke without fire" brigade.

Plus, if word somehow gets back to a suspect that the police are on to them, they may become even more furtive, When the McStay family went missing in America, the police suspected they had been murdered, but put out a statement that they believed the family had gone on the run - they were hoping to lull the culprit into a false sense of security.
