Is anyone watching this on c5 shortly? I'm fascinated by how brazen her Mother was. Poor, poor child :(

Surely that police officer shouldn't have said that? If it had turned out that KM was innocent, that comment would have fuelled the "no smoke without fire" brigade

And it has the potential to prejudice her right to a fair trial, which would have meant that she'd couldn't have been tried and would have gone free.

Fruitbatdancer · 11/02/2021 00:52

Just to correct something further up thread, the sitting on lap at funeral was Karen NOt Shannon. The mum was shagging the abductor bloke Michael Donovan or whatever he called himself.

And I assume it’s all in the programme tomorrow but the step dad was into child porn and also got caught when they searched the house again post finding her.

I also think I read that the biological dad was allowed to see her after she was found, but it was forced removal or whatever ie in child’s interest was not placed with him, as I think your right he was a step cousin/ brother or something.

What a tangled web of horror.

Notice they said in the show something like “we have 17 people to interview and eliminate, not all of them are family, not all of them are peadophiles” cleverly intimating more than one (Craig aside) was both a relative and a known peadophile....

SilverBirchWithout · 11/02/2021 02:05

What Karen Matthews did was evil and horrific, but I also cannot help feelIng she appeared a bit of a victim too.
A very unintelligent woman no doubt subject to abuse and in unhealthy relationships all her life. Hard to feel any sympathy for her but nonetheless a victim in her own life

You could say that about a lot of criminals. I agree she’s had a shit life but she’s just repeating the cycle . She’s a woman of low intelligence and I don’t know perhaps victims of abuse which I believe she was have some ability to detach themselves emotionally. I’m usually someone who says that about people like KM they are some sort of victim but I look at her I just see pure evil . I believe she just blames the uncle but I think both as bad and evil as each other .

I thought it was a child sitting on his lap on the programme last night? because I was shouting at the tv "get off her you filthy bastard" Angry

Eh it’s ok, I didn’t tell anyone, and she was guilty 😂
Nicknacky · 11/02/2021 10:41

@Bluntness100 So was your friend involved in the enquiry?

Mydogisagentleman · 11/02/2021 12:15

It was interesting, but far too long.
Too much music and drone sequences.
I really hope Shannon found happiness

sashh · 11/02/2021 12:30

Same feeling I got when watching the Philpott press conference - the guy who set fire to his house killing his kids.

Slight derail but Mairead Philpott is out of prison already.

There is a YouTube channel called 'murder analysed' that looks at different cases, the presenter talks about the case and the possible impact on Shannon,

supercee · 11/02/2021 13:01

To the information leaker hunters, yes giving information prior to and during an investigation is unprofessional. Once court proceedings have concluded it's fine. Hence why the detectives are on the telly talking about it.

In investigations the police/investigation are usually a good view steps ahead of what is reported in the press.

Not directly he is too high up,

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 11/02/2021 13:32

I turned it off.

It seems to be a compilation of old news, another cheap C5 'lockdown' programme of re-cycled footage and reports.

The only new things being the interview with Shannon's former best friend.

It just seems unethical to parade what happened to a child when she (and the siblings) is now a very young woman doubtless still vulnerable and trying to put her life back together. It must be so upsetting to see all this thrust into the public eye again, so many personal details, her old bedroom on national TV, everyone speculating...where does she live, etc.

Unethical. IMO.

Pebbledashery · 11/02/2021 13:47

The actress who played Karen Matthews in The Moorside was spot on I have to say.

yes I feel like that a bit too.

Particularly her childhood friend who still seems traumatised by what happened.

They seem to go to her at times when they want a comment about the childhood, I'm not sure this girl is over what happened and I hope she has ongoing support. I do t know about anyone else but I was very attached to my childhood best friend....at age 55 we are still in touch. I would have been devastated had she just left one day and never came back, plus the fear she might have been murdered,

Julie Bushby is always wheeled out for these too. I actually really like Julie, I do a lot of community based work and people like Julie are the bread and butter of local communities. They have their finger on the pulse, they are accepted by people and will usually go all out to support people in need.

dottypotter · 11/02/2021 14:23

t is just so wrong they are allowed to even make this programme. It must be uncomfortable for Shannon at the least and is potentially re-traumatising. She may well not want people to know it was her. I just can't imagine what it must be like having the child abuse you experienced put out there for everybody to watch for entertainment.

exactly why drag it all up again you know the story anyway.

I would feel there was something wrong with me for wanting to sit through all this.

Pebbledashery · 11/02/2021 14:27

I think it was aired because its the anniversary of what happened to her. Not that anniversary is the right word.. I just mean that it happened around this time.

*I would feel there was something wrong with me for wanting to sit through all this"

Can you explain what you mean by this please?

dottypotter · 11/02/2021 14:38

yes why do you want to sit through that when you know the story not very entertaining is it. Not very nice. what are you hoping to get out of it?

dottypotter · 11/02/2021 14:39

channel 5 love doing these type of programmes they keep doing them on Fred and Rose West etc. Very nice not. why would you want to sit throught that especially when you already know what happened.
Cuppachino · 11/02/2021 14:42

Ok so you're just bashing people who have different interests to you? I don't really understand your comment tbh. You don't like or are interested in these programmes so therefore no-one should be interested?

Pebbledashery · 11/02/2021 14:44

@dottypotter you are very much entitled to your opinion

Just because one watches a documentary, doesn't mean there hope to achieve anything out of it. There's a thread on a program that aired this week regarding paedophiles that many, many people viewed.... Doesn't mean they hope to achieve anything after watching it other than educate themselves.
If that's how viewing a particular program makes you feel then you're completely entitled to that opinion.. But doesn't mean there is anything specifically wrong with any other individual that chooses to watch.

OP posts:
catinbootsx · 11/02/2021 16:36

@dottypotter is was aired because there is a public thirst for this sort of shit. As a nation we are fascinated with crime, murder and all things associated.

The majority of the public can't seem to separate TV entertainment from real life horror and the impact it has on actual real people.

catinbootsx · 11/02/2021 16:36

The line between information and entertainment is very, very blurred

Are you just working your way through all the threads about tv shows and telling us all how much better you are because you don't watch them? Confused
