I agree it goes one way or the other with actors who grow up on the show, Chesney and David being shining examples of either end of the scale. I always thought Simon was very good when he was little but went downhill in his teenage years. He seems to be improving slightly now. I think Faye, Asha and Amy have been a success and the new Aadi is good, I hope they would have chosen to recast him even if the old actor hadn’t decided to leave, he barely strung one sentence together.
We mentioned Liam needing a new head recently, I’d also suggest Max, he’s 14 now and still very much a child character, and Jack was quite good in the sepsis storyline but seems to have gone rapidly downhill since then, I can’t imagine him being a convincing adult.
To be honest, I thought ‘Decided to concentrate on his education’ was a polite fiction to explain Old Aadi’s exit 😬
A problem I can foresee in the next few years is a glut of teenage boys, with no girls to balance them out. Although Hope is only a few months younger than Jack, the difference feels like years (there’s actually nearly four years between the actors), and then you’re waiting for Ruby and Lily to grow up. Meanwhile we have a group of boys ranging from the very mature 10 year-old Jack to the immature 14 year-old Max, including Dylan and Liam Jnr., but no girls until 16 year-old Asha. It’s unbalanced and won’t work long-term.
Another character I’d like to see make an appearance is DeeDee Bailey. I know the family as a whole are unpopular, but they’re not going anywhere, and a lively young woman (she’s meant to be 23, I think) - hopefully without an obligatory dark secret - could be just the boost they need. She could also address another gap in the cast - independent young women. There’s a big gap between the teen group of Asha, Amy and Summer and the 30-40 somethings (Carla, Maria, Fiz, Sarah etc.) If they brought in DeeDee, she could form a friendship group with Emma and Alina; maybe with Faye too as she gets a bit older? Alya is at a funny aged and needs a gal pal - maybe Sarah?
