@TheLaughingGenome

The Simon actor has been in it for so long, you'd think he'd have picked up at least a couple of acting skills by now.

But no.

Who from though?
TellingBone · 23/02/2021 21:13

No, I'm grateful for the blanket. Otherwise we might be looking at a dressing gown of DOOM.

I'm hoping the writers are way ahead of us on the Yasmeen money situation, and that it'll finish up somehow that they weren't really married and ergo no debts.

WeeWillyWanky · 23/02/2021 21:20

Leanne's been hogging the Dressing Gown of Doom lately. Maybe Peter could've borrowed Debbeh's cape.

ellenanora5 · 23/02/2021 22:50

I'm really annoyed with that nonsense with the hearse, why the fuck would Steve think that's a great idea, he's just lost his child for god sake, I can't imagine anyone wanting to do that, mind you he does seem to be over it, bloody stupid nonsense, it's really pissed me off.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/02/2021 23:08

@Clawdy

There was a comedy series about a firm of funeral directors, many years ago, I think Steve and Tim were trying to channel it !
Was Thora Herd in it?

That sort of rings a bell . . .

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/02/2021 23:10

I keep reading Glen Wallace (Lucas) as 'Greg Wallace' in the credits and thinking, 'when was that pie-faced gurning bastard on?'

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 23/02/2021 23:10

In loving memory - I used to love that!

@eddiemairswife

Simon and Chesney.......both cute and endearing as small children, but pretty unconvincing as older characters.
Yes, I think this is a common problem with actors who grow up on a show. Sam Aston in particular has not matured into a good adult actor. Alex Bain still has time - I read recently he’s been doing formal training - but at the moment he can only manage a pissed off stare.

You do get some honourable exceptions, like Jack P Shepherd, who’s been consistently good since childhood. But watching most child actors, it becomes clear why they’re given a new head once they hit puberty. Look at the original Sarah-Lou - around ten years old in the classic episodes currently showing on ITV3. Based on the amount, and level, of dialogue she gets, you’d think she was a toddler.

Peter should get back to doing what he does best (wearing his navy jacket and looking proper manly)

Oooh yes!

icecreamgirl94 · 24/02/2021 00:19

I agree it goes one way or the other with actors who grow up on the show, Chesney and David being shining examples of either end of the scale. I always thought Simon was very good when he was little but went downhill in his teenage years. He seems to be improving slightly now. I think Faye, Asha and Amy have been a success and the new Aadi is good, I hope they would have chosen to recast him even if the old actor hadn’t decided to leave, he barely strung one sentence together.
We mentioned Liam needing a new head recently, I’d also suggest Max, he’s 14 now and still very much a child character, and Jack was quite good in the sepsis storyline but seems to have gone rapidly downhill since then, I can’t imagine him being a convincing adult.

Wendyhause · 24/02/2021 01:21

Alex Bain (he plays sigh Si Hmmin Corrie) fathered a baby at just 17 so in real life he possibly has a lot on his plate with a child and his education so the acting lessons may have fallen by the wayside but I agree he is a bit of a disappointment after being such a cute little boy.

Sam Aston is a fully fledged grown up but still acts like a sulky teenager. Fizz is a bit of a joke too. I have never rated Jenny McAlpine as much of an actress.

Bring back Ena!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/02/2021 10:47

Bring back Ena!!

Violet Carson wouldn't have darkened the set with her talent if she'd seen these scripts and storylines.

The old Corrie reflected people's real lives and had enough drama in them to keep them interesting but believable. There warpaths and humour - and a very deep affection.

Not now, alas.

eggandonion · 24/02/2021 11:05

Lots of petty squabbles, the occasional fancy piece taking up with a wrong un.
Eeee, it were grand when iwere a lass. And could follow the story line.

To be honest, I thought ‘Decided to concentrate on his education’ was a polite fiction to explain Old Aadi’s exit 😬

A problem I can foresee in the next few years is a glut of teenage boys, with no girls to balance them out. Although Hope is only a few months younger than Jack, the difference feels like years (there’s actually nearly four years between the actors), and then you’re waiting for Ruby and Lily to grow up. Meanwhile we have a group of boys ranging from the very mature 10 year-old Jack to the immature 14 year-old Max, including Dylan and Liam Jnr., but no girls until 16 year-old Asha. It’s unbalanced and won’t work long-term.

Another character I’d like to see make an appearance is DeeDee Bailey. I know the family as a whole are unpopular, but they’re not going anywhere, and a lively young woman (she’s meant to be 23, I think) - hopefully without an obligatory dark secret - could be just the boost they need. She could also address another gap in the cast - independent young women. There’s a big gap between the teen group of Asha, Amy and Summer and the 30-40 somethings (Carla, Maria, Fiz, Sarah etc.) If they brought in DeeDee, she could form a friendship group with Emma and Alina; maybe with Faye too as she gets a bit older? Alya is at a funny aged and needs a gal pal - maybe Sarah?

@StillCoughingandLaughing

I think you would make a decent script writer! Far better than the mob they are employing now.
In t'olden days of the street the writers had limitations as no internet or mobile phones which if you think about it these things are incorporated in the street stories of today. The technology allows affairs and lies to be discovered and what better storyline than someone reading their husband or wife's text messages or emails. Repercussions galore and weeks worth of boring scripts.
It used to be said that the street would go on forever but I am starting to doubt that now.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 24/02/2021 13:35

@Wendyhause I would happily write a death scene for Sean! Grin

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 24/02/2021 13:44

I remember watching the show about tony Warren and how he came to create Corrie. He said he wanted to write about real people, living in real streets and pubs and their normal lives. He said people wanted to see something they couldn’t relate to, people like them on tv. And that’s what Corrie was for so long. It’s not that anymore. It’s gone so far off track.

Wendyhause · 24/02/2021 13:50
@Wendyhause I would happily write a death scene for Sean! Grin
I would happily hang up your coat and make you a coffee.
Not exactly wishing anyone dead but Sean irl is not a popular man and was a horror of a contestant in a Big Brother show. His silly voice and antics used to make me smile but it has all worn so very thin now.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 24/02/2021 13:53

Shock

Hope is 13??? It feels like only last year she was the little girl being groomed by her evil
Half sister.

Speaking of which I’m watching John stape being a skinhead thug in classic emmerdale right now!

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 24/02/2021 13:54

Oh hang on, Jacks only 10! He looks much older!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 24/02/2021 13:57

The actor is 13. I get that they probably went for an older actor when they were planning the amputation storyline, but I think it really shows that he’s old for the part.

OP posts:
JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 24/02/2021 14:00

Yeah it’s a risky strategy going for an older actor at that age because they hit puberty and suddenly they’re 7ft tall!
