Know nothing about this but have found some C5 original dramas quite good!

For anyone who like me is still trying to find something actually worth watching.

Mark could well be the boys "real dad" but maybe his wife had an affair/they used sperm as infertile. So not his biological dad but he has brought him up since birth. (though of course if you had IVF you'd mention it when doing DNA test wouldn't you?)

its never as clever as we think it will be. We think OHHH THEY MUST MENTION THIS UNRESOLVED POINT and it will all tie up, but actually they are just poor writers and forgot it.

diddl · 04/02/2021 11:35

"My tuppence: brother swapped DNA results to protect himself."

That's what I think.

And Mark's wife was the mother but he's not the father.

But how would Jason Orange swap the DNA test results?

CriticalWoman · 04/02/2021 11:57

@JaimeLeeCurtains

Within the "logic" of this drama, as he's a criminal lawyer he'll have lots of dodgy connections with bent coppers/forensic officers I expect.
CriticalWoman · 04/02/2021 12:00

@OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg

CriticalWoman I’ve fanwanked that into an assumption that Jason went to university in Manchester, picked up the accent there and it stuck.

The lengths I’ll go to in order to add some semblance of narrative logic... Grin

I bet he was an Oasis fan at the time so developed the accent as a fan (I do know someone who actually did that) then realised it gave him credibility among his criminal clientele to not speak RP.
CriticalWoman · 04/02/2021 12:02

"The lengths I’ll go to in order to add some semblance of narrative logic"
Which is more than the people who made this drama seem to have done!

NoKingDingaLingTitsInAbsentia · 04/02/2021 12:04

@MythSpentYouth

Yeah, maybe she is not the mother: the woman in the photo (dark curly hair) is the secret love child of her dead father. Her half sister. Who had a secrete affair with...Jason! Or Ben.
I started wondering if it was the dead dad's love child - but would you get a 99% dna match from a half sibling?
CriticalWoman · 04/02/2021 12:10

@JazzyGeoff

This series (and this thread) has been a right tonic!

I keep thinking of the gardener smashing things up because of the crappy forge job on the passport and guffawing Grin

I've no idea what a smashed up flat screen tv actually looks like but I'm sure that one was made of cardboard. It was nice to see the 2 drug dealers were masked up though, as the constant flagrant breach of Covid regs by the other characters is appalling Grin
TitsInAbsentia · 04/02/2021 12:14

Did the forgery guy shop her to border control do you think?

Also did she actually send off her home dna kit - ie might we see a different dna result popping up somewhere?

Is the barrister brother the father of that kid and subbed his dna in?

Am I actually going to watch this live tonight?! 😂

CriticalWoman · 04/02/2021 12:15

Maybe Jodie is dead dad's love child's identical twin. The horrid mother agreed to take one of them on as her own but drew the line at having both. The other twin gave birth to Dan who bears a remarkable resemblance to his cousin Tom. Twin sister was having an affair hence Mark is not Dan's biological father.
Sounds perfectly plausible to me 😁😁😁

percheron67 · 04/02/2021 12:18

Looking forward to see Rupert Penry Jones. Can't say the same for Jill Halfpenny! Wishy washy performances from her as a general rule.

KaptainKaveman · 04/02/2021 12:21

I've been watching this and agree that it's all loony and mad, I am enjoying it though!

On an entirely separate note I used to have a massive crush on the boy TomDan's dad IRL, anyone else? (The LUSH Brian Molko from Placebo).

JaimeLeeCurtains · 04/02/2021 12:23

Is there any narrative significance to Geordie Jodie, Jason Orange and Posh Mum all having different accents, or is that just slack casting?

MythSpentYouth · 04/02/2021 12:32

Maybe - if she then had an affair with Jason - without realising that he was her half brother.

But..Jason wouldn't know? Would he? Or maybe he fund out after. Maybe he DID fond the couple...and relaised what had happened...an incestuous affair...so clluded to cover it up.

From the trailer, it looks as if poor DanTom gets kidnapped by the Leather-coated forger. Which I guess could happen if you blithely take a 14 year old into a den of ruthless gangsters.

For all her supposed love of him she doesn't really look out for his welfare, does she?

Is everyone getting snacks and drinks for the denouement tonight?

Graciebobcat · 04/02/2021 12:36

Dead Dad's Love Child - Turtle Power! 🐢

Graciebobcat · 04/02/2021 12:42

Last night I watched it at 9pm then had to switch straight onto ITV+1 for The Bay. Right at the start I was getting a bit muddled between the two as still had my mind fixated on The Drowning. But both series do have a water connotation!

I am watching this alongside Finding Alice. Confusing as the other programme also involves families, DNA test, death, missing son, and Keeley Hawes in a checked coat!

The Drowning really programme really should have been called Finding Tom, and instead of Finding Alice, Falling Downstairs, to save my confusion.

JaimeLeeCurtains · 04/02/2021 13:02

Or howabout, 'The One With Keeley Hawes' and 'The One With Jill Halfpenny'? That's more my level.

MythSpentYouth · 04/02/2021 13:05

Hang on...the only person who ever asks about the couple who were never traced at the lake is Jodie.

Maybe some of the having-an-affair / accidentally incestuous / love child parties bumped into each other in the woods...and Jason and the Mum know very well who The Mysterious Couple were.

the80sweregreat · 04/02/2021 13:09

At least this one is wrapped up in four parts and over four nights in a row. Finding Alice is a few more episodes than this and only once a week ( unless you want to or can 'binge it')
I bet 'the drowning ' will have an ending like ' the sister' ( also ch 5) which was on last October and had a silly ending.
I am loving the theories. Her ex and the boys ' dad' do look a bit similar. They always end up on a new estate of expensive looking houses ( easier to film there maybe?) and a ' park where you want to without being towed away' policy.
You can't park anywhere anymore without hassle, so it is annoying.

I have watched all of finding Alice on catch up or Britbox not sure which.
the80sweregreat · 04/02/2021 13:19

I binged Finding Alice on the ITV hub.
I didn't hate it , but i did find it irritating at times.
It didn't go the way I thought it would and was set up for another series.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/02/2021 13:20

Hmmmmm

Not sure how this will turn out

As a mum I couldn’t have my child declared dead if no body

the80sweregreat · 04/02/2021 13:35

Blonds, Sad to think that people have had to do this after many years of someone being missing :( must be awful and never any real closure.

MerylStropp · 04/02/2021 13:38

And a guy designing a brand new dream home, which he's extremely proud of!

BTW, what was Mark planning to do with her at the new house, if she hadn't managed to get away?
