(Probably for the final, rather than last overall, considering how much we talk Grin)

Last thread here, please check there first as I'm setting this thread up early so we can move over easily later!

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit

One thing though

Ed Balls Gangnam was way better than I remembered!!!!

Might have been Christmas drinks goggles but actually that was a really tough routine and he did amazingly with it.

It's my favourite dance of all time. But then I'm a pleb Grin
Lampzade · 27/12/2020 03:50

Ore was brilliant particularly as a non dancer.
His jive was fantastic

Figgygal · 27/12/2020 08:39

His jive was brilliant I think at the time I was so keen for Danny to win and incensed at the fact he wasn’t going to because everyone thought he was a ringah I didn’t appreciate how good ore was

Jay and aliona are my favourite couple and I love their drive but watching Karims and Ores it’s not the best dance the styling and I suppose surprise at how different it was makes it stand out

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 27/12/2020 09:11

Very late to the party and haven’t even watched the Christmas Day special yet - saving for tonight - but in answer to NoGuest’s question, I’d like to see Lucy Worsley and anyone from the Repair Shop in next year’s Strictly... also Brian Cox, the gogglebox vicar, Idris Elba, James Cordon, Geri Horner...

Agree about the styling. As much as I’m not a fan of Aliona (beautiful dancer; questionable attitude) she barely looked like she got out of second gear throughout the dance. Effortless.
Bluffinwithmymuffin · 28/12/2020 08:29

Finally watched Christmas special yesterday. Surely should have been more than one Oti/Danny, also Kara/Artem, Sophie and Brendan Charleston.... Zoe Ball’s waltz?... and absolutely no sign of Anne Widdicombe whatsoever. I could never see the comedy with her; just a belligerent old woman who seemed to think being dragged around the floor meant she was dancing... otherwise it was great. Best of all they actually showed the full dances.
The group dance was the worst I’ve ever seen, though.
I guess that really is it for another year now.
I will miss it, and this thread.
Until next year Glitterball

NellePorter · 28/12/2020 08:44

Only just watched this, my DDs were fascinated to see early Strictly! I was disappointed not to see Georgia's Charleston or Rachel's Rumba in the top 25. Agree that Ed Balls actually did quite well, even though I was not a fan at the time. Also, why did Tess call Danny the "2016 Glitterball Champion"? Didn't Ore win that year?

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 28/12/2020 09:27

Ore did win- don’t know why she said that Shock

kazzaD66 · 28/12/2020 09:55

Because she's crap! I noticed she said that and let it pass because I wanted Danny and Oti to win. I'm afraid I didn't like Ore and Joanne.

Fizbosshoes · 28/12/2020 10:09

The thing that annoyed me about Ann Widdecome is that she looked like she wasnt even trying.
Anton seems to always get the no-hoper contestant, but some of them look like they're putting in effort but it's just not a great outcome.
Ann was just walking - its incomprehensible to think she had been practising that for several hours a day for a week!

For me that's why it's funny. She didn't try at all.
Fizbosshoes · 28/12/2020 10:20

It was funny once or twice but when you got other contestants really working hard and putting in the hours and effort and she got to week 8 or whatever just stompingwalking about, counting out loud, for me it grated.

NellePorter · 28/12/2020 10:26

I think Tess was just reading what she was given, to be fair

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 28/12/2020 10:34

Grin Anne Widdecombe
It grated on me as well. Her lack of effort and the fact that she thought she was funny, and that being funny was enough on a dancing show. What she did was comedy in a way, I suppose, but for me, nowhere near as funny as it was bloody annoying.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 28/12/2020 10:39

Could be, but how can the script writers, editor, producer etc - and Tess herself - make a mistake like that? I did wonder if they were trying to describe Danny as the favourite of that series and didn’t know how else to say it....

SoupDragon · 28/12/2020 12:46

Also, why did Tess call Danny the "2016 Glitterball Champion"?

She didn't. It was Claudia!

Clawdy · 28/12/2020 13:20

But Tess always gets the blame, and Claudia can do no wrong, on here!

NellePorter · 28/12/2020 14:00

Genuine mistake, I have nothing against Tess. We rewound it a couple of times as well to check that's what she said!

NellePorter · 28/12/2020 14:02

Also agree with Bluffin ... maybe the number of people involved is fewer than normal due to Covid but surely someone would have realised? Confused

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 28/12/2020 14:30

Oops, it was a genuine mistake on my part too- all I knew for certain was that one of them had said it. Sorry Tess Smile

So if you're interested in how this list came about, back in August the Strictly team sent me (along with some other Strictly 'experts') a longlist of 50 dances, and asked me to rank my top 25. It took AGES, because they were all brilliant. Then the top 25 were put to the public vote, resulting in this countdown.
My favourite dance? Danny and Oti's Samba. That was the easy one.

Above from Heidi Stephens (does the Guardian liveblog, did not vote for Widdy)

KicksLikeASIeepTwitch · 28/12/2020 17:32

This Ore/Joanne American Smooth wasn't on the Top 50 longlist, so I emailed Strictly and politely requested it be included. They kindly obliged.

That’s interesting. I wish she’d emailed Strictly and politely requested that Danny and Oti’s AS was also included in the shortlist though Smile

theliverpoolone · 28/12/2020 20:28

This might not be a view that's shared, but there's always a lot of reminiscing about how good Tom and Camilla's showdance was, and how that's what won it for him. Watching it on here though, I thought his dancing wasnt that strong - they looked good and the music was good, but his actual dancing was quite underwhelming, imo, especially when viewed against more recent contestants.

BeaLola · 28/12/2020 20:36

For 2021 contestants I would like to see any of the following
Jenny Agutter
Sheila from Call the Midwife
Sophie Raworth
Fiona Bruce
Lorraine Kelly
Graham Norton
Sarah Cox
Mel Guidroyce
The actress who plays Doctor Who - name escapes me
Helena Bonham Carter
