(Probably for the final, rather than last overall, considering how much we talk Grin)

Last thread here, please check there first as I'm setting this thread up early so we can move over easily later!

Caroline was in the group dance, wasn’t she, with that stupid stuffed cat?*

At least we can all agree that the cat was stupid and stuffed Grin

Loved it! Wanted Maisie to win based on the final alone, I missed most of the series this year, (wish it was on at 6 every week - proper teatime entertainment before having to put the kids to bed, it's just not the same watching it after the event). I absolutely loved the Christmas/Fred and Ginger showdance. It was the only show dance that got me excited this year. Having said that, happy for Bill and Oti too. I didn't really see what the fuss was about about their dancing (apart from Rappers Delight which was awesome), but I think they are both amazing people so very happy for them. It did make me really sad when no-one could hug at the end.

FuzzyPuffling · 21/12/2020 13:55

No no, the cat was my favourite. Go Cat.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 21/12/2020 14:19

If it’s done by a lone cleb and partner then it is inescapably smug.

How? The song clearly references a woman, and I don't think anyone ever thought it was meant to be about Janette.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 21/12/2020 14:23

There’s always one, Fuzzy

FuzzyPuffling · 21/12/2020 15:34

Oh come on Bluffin, that cat had a real journey.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 21/12/2020 16:08

The cat could be partnered with Oti next year, thinking about it....

SoupDragon · 21/12/2020 16:10

She'd still win.

So happy that Bill and Oti won.
Loved that Swanny routine! I wouldn't have wanted to try to dance on the running machine - an accident waiting to happen Blush I thought they were a great partnership, they always looked like they were enjoying themselves.

The Swedes did it with style Xmas Wink and smarm Still my favourite MN comment on the Eurovision thread - a poster said they looked like a Burton's Team Bonding Weekend Exercise
NoGuestsCIothingOptionaI · 21/12/2020 18:44

They used she then he in the first verse of the One Lyrics
every little step she takes
every move that he makes
It was absolutely fine, esp in context of musical week.
As for showdance being about her - not sure that's fair - his shtick from launch was being nervous about lifts. She proved he had improved on that. The Jake salsa move is one of her signatures I admit but the potstirrer showed how good he was - it takes two, not just her on her own to pull that off.

My three showdances in my head are better Xmas Wink but at the end of the day, they are showing strengths so she went for a salsa-charleston and Oti for an AT-paso. Nowt wrong with those choices.
Maisie wuz nonetheless robbed on the night, given her ballroom prowess which was head and shoulders above the others.

SoupDragon · 21/12/2020 19:29

Only in Musicals Week. In the final it was "she".

NoGuestsCIothingOptionaI · 21/12/2020 19:37

Nope. They did it for both musicals and finals.
Only the once, in the second line, but definitely he.
Look it up with subtitles on youtube if you don't believe me

SoupDragon · 21/12/2020 19:40

I watched both on You Tube to check. 🤷🏻‍♀️

SoupDragon · 21/12/2020 19:41

It doesn't matter anyway. Clearly it wasn't smug or arrogant.

And almost certainly not Nvwls choose anyway (the song I mean).
DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 21/12/2020 19:48

Oti's Mum reads the Strictly spoilers, bless her Xmas Grin

IntermittentParps · 22/12/2020 11:29

She had disappeared by the end. Johannes was alone in the finale.

Ah, i didn’t twig that. Wonder why? I felt like she spent most of her time on the show in a sulk; maybe she appeared in as much of the last dance as she was contractually obliged to Grin

Re ‘One’, I never said I thought it was Harvey’s choice. I think the producers chose it. And it backfired. Songs about how great a dancer someone is just do come across as big-headed.

BeanToCup · 22/12/2020 12:06

I should think that it suited Johannes very well to dance alone, the grandstanding wee prick. Bad choice to pair that enormous ego with an unconfident older woman. Or with anyone really.

Really? I was optimistic about their pairing at the start but as the series progressed, they didn't seem to have much chemistry together. I'm not sure whether Caroline was lacking in confidence either. Quite the reverse and she crossed a line by licking his arm in their last dance.
Clawdy · 22/12/2020 14:44

Caroline was certainly not lacking in confidence! Can't believe anyone got that impression! As xsquared said, quite the reverse.
