(Probably for the final, rather than last overall, considering how much we talk Grin)

Last thread here, please check there first as I'm setting this thread up early so we can move over easily later!

lemon I know! Not even in the top 25 'chosen' out for us to vote on - it would have been in my top picks.
derxa Why?

I fear I may wear out YouTube with the amount I watch. (And I still gasp every time at the jump).

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit

How are Mac and Dris not breaking household mixing rules?
Probably filmed when they were working on this: www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2020/idris-meets-paul

I thought Maisie danced the best in all three rounds of the final, but she was never going to win, was she? It was pretty obviously between Harvey and Bill. Harvey danced well but was a bit ... unexciting? I hated the CC, but adored Bill's show dance.

Annasgirl · 20/12/2020 00:26

Thanks all, loved this thread as I do every year. Delighted that Bill and Oti won. Wasn’t it so weird watching them win and have everyone stand so far away and no one run over and hug them ?

SparklingDinosaurs · 20/12/2020 00:58

Whoo hoo I’ve just finished watching and it was just what I needed tonight. Kids wouldn’t settle to sleep and obviously all the other news earlier in evening (well yesterday now really) had me quite down in dumps and now I feel quite cheered and to me that’s what this season off strictly has been about. Lifting me out of a downer mood even for a short while.

Apologise I haven’t read any of the thread yet as just focused on watching on catch up but I will go back and read it all as I really enjoy hearing everyone thoughts on it all and things that you all pick up on that I miss.

So I loved the whole final. Yes repeat dances not much proper dancing (like the ballroom stuff I suppose I mean) but wonderful. I actually really liked them all. Maisie is an amazing dancer. No doubt she was the best dancer and I felt more connected to her tonight than previously and her dances were amazing but I didn’t love love love them so I’m pleased she didn’t win as such although such a strong dancer. She was overwhelmed I think being in final and really emotional. It was a little much but completely understandable and somewhat endeared her to me. She did really well.

HRVY arrgg he was good and seems like such a nice person but actually he fell to bottom of like for me. His dances were great but I can’t remember them much and I’ve only just finished watching. He kept mentioning Janette being in final I wasn’t sure about that. Plus the nan vt didn’t seem that good and saying he wanted glitter all to give to them eeek no just no.

Bill was brilliant. He really has done so well throughout and I love that he wouldn’t allow himself to be the comedy act and the laugh of the show. He and Oti treated him as a serious candidate from the start and it so paid off. He really can move. I’m pleased he won. He wasn’t ott with anything. Very calm very controlled and sensible I really liked that approach it’s so refreshing as everyone is so ott in everything nowadays. He did get emotional at one point which felt very authentic as did the way he spoke about a Oti not ott but kind and appropriate. Lovely. Really pleased he won.

Jamie is my favourite celebrity he was so joyful and easy to watch. I loved every single dance he did tonight and loved all his chats with Claudia and laughed out loud several times. He’s really lifted me throughout this whole thing and has such a brilliant attitude. I hope he gets more good exposure I’ve no idea what he was like on his show but in strictly he’s been a joy to watch every week. Funny charming and a brilliant attitude. I would have loved him to have won but I’m not disappointed in the results either.

Sorry I’m rambling. In other options.

  • Robbie is rubbish. He’s so old hat now trying cash in with Christmas albums and he can’t sign (or it was the sound but I think it’s him) and he didn’t clap to the dancers like most of the signers do
  • Bruno was not missed. His little vt seemed fake fake fake. Are we suppose to believe he’s been watching that show live?! Don’t for a minute think that. At most he’s seen a little rehearsal footage and making is comments based on that. I didn’t miss him
  • Motsi is just too much. Very chatty even when she said she’s was lost for words. I just not sure I like watching her anymore. I did feel a heartstrings tugging when she was so emotional at the results though she was properly crying. I assume proud and happy for her sister.
  • Claudia breaking down at end when thanking the crew etc almost has me going too
  • I could have done without Nicola and K dancing. I also have a feeling if a m/f couple and they were out in same circumstances they wouldn’t have come back to dance in final!! I assume that was dance they were due to perform week they had to leave? She wasn’t very good it was all K dancing around her.
  • I’m completely confused by the bubbles. I mean there is no way the celebrities stayed in their bubbles this whole time surely?! Especially those who went in first half of the show. Did they have to isolate to reform bubbles for final show or maybe just got tested. Very confused. But then also confused why McCartney and Idris could sit so close in inside sofa - I’m missing something I think.
  • Is Oti the first to win twice in a row? I’ll google that one! Good for her she’s a talented teacher as well as dancer and choreographer.

I’ll go back and read all your chat later. Thanks for posting as it really makes my enjoyment of strictly so much more.

SparklingDinosaurs · 20/12/2020 01:00

Apologises for my ott use of “ott” Blush

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 20/12/2020 01:09

Sparkling yes Oti is the first back to back winner. The only other double winner was Aliona and her wins were about four years apart.

MistletoeandMoccasins · 20/12/2020 01:47

Actually, the radio times top 15 shortlist is a weird one - the original 25 were on the Strictly website at the end of August.
I know cos I voted.
The 15 shortlist was on RT end of November...including Bill Bailey.
So they upped it to 26 or took the 15th off and added in Bill because voting figures meant they clearly guessed he was going to storm it?

Ontheboardwalk · 20/12/2020 02:05

I really enjoyed lockdown Strictly

Saying that this is the first year I’ve been rooting for the dancers not the celebs

ScienceSensibility · 20/12/2020 02:31

@Maireas

I think that the problem with Hrvy's show dance was that it was a little too much about Janette, and didn't showcase him enough. Oti manages to make her partner shine.
Janette always does this. In every series her choreography is designed to showcase HER and not the celebrity. Sorry for HRVY but I’m glad she didn’t win. I would have been fine with Maisie and Gorka winning but I’m delighted about Bill and Oti. No histrionics, just a mature love of dance.

I’ve been calling for the BBC to release the old series of Strictly since we locked down in March! Come on Beeb, get us through the next few months.

Ooh, that AS... it’s of my fave go to dances on you tube, and I also catch my breath at the jump. It’s pure bliss, isn’t it? Out of this world

Yes. That’s always been the trouble with Janette, it seems to me. I used to like her but she’s really starting to annoy me now.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 20/12/2020 05:38

Is anyone else going to settle down and watch the entire final for a second time on catch up today? Smile

Maireas · 20/12/2020 06:27

Lady B'Stard excellent points, and I think you've put into words what a lot of us were feeling. It was unexpectedly emotional.
I'll miss your summaries! They're on point!

DeegeeDee · 20/12/2020 07:23

I enjoyed all the comments made and Lady B'stard, am in agreement.

Thank you for this time, I have enjoyed the links posted and watched them repeatedly.

You should post your alternative top 25 so those of us new to the Strictly family can enjoy them too.

Skipsurvey · 20/12/2020 07:46

when all the dancers came on and Johannes ran off with Caroline's pussy, where did she go? he ended up dancing on his own, with a feather

awaynboilyurheid · 20/12/2020 07:56

Just caught up so pleased for Bill and Oti, loved their show dance, would have voted for Harvey and Jeanette but due to CV announcement and family having to make plans and changes we were late to the party.

I know we were joking but could they not have waited till strictly was over? It really killed the mood as the young would say. New strains spreading faster what fresh hell is this?

Anyhoo we got back to watch it ,wish they kept the show dances till last like they used to but enjoyed it all, to me Harvey was the best dancer
( an over frantic show dance but expected that it is Jeanette ) closely followed by Maisie .
Maisie did a beautiful quickstep but had to laugh would you like to say something to Gorka... “he’s kind eh caring “ ...yes Maisie what about a fab dancer ? he’s taught you loads? nope nada!
Jaime was brilliant really won me over, really can’t stand made in Chelsea, thought he’d be posh boy, arrogant, too cool for school etc but his love of dance and enthusiasm, staying upbeat in dance offs and partnership with Karen was great to watch.
Great show, so pleased for the wonderful Oti

Frequentflier · 20/12/2020 08:52

Wow the result really took me by surprise. Was expecting No Vowels to win. I feel sorry for Janette, but I agree that Oti is by far the better at making her celebrity shine. She is a genius at making the dance about the celeb not her.

ikltownofboothlehem · 20/12/2020 09:40

Someone was probably on guard outside Karim's gaff just in case.

gingercat02 · 20/12/2020 09:56

So glad Strictly happened. It's been a small glimmer of joy in the dark of 2020. Love Bill Bailey generally but delighted he won when everyone thought he would be awful.

I can just imagine the production meeting next year 'now who on earth can we give Oti that will actually be a duffer?' (fingers crossed they will choose me - I'm not a celeb or gay but I do luff Oti and I suspect I would be a challenge too far for her).
HagenDaz · 20/12/2020 10:33

I get the feeling that Caroline’s protestations of love for Johannes has unnerved him a bit. When she left after the dance off she was wailing “I lo........ovvvvvve him” and she again said “I’m still in love with him” during last night’s vt. I was watching their body language and he had definitely put up an emotional wall.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 20/12/2020 10:36

Maisie did a beautiful quickstep but had to laugh would you like to say something to Gorka... “he’s kind eh caring “ ...yes Maisie what about a fab dancer ? he’s taught you loads? nope nada!

Had Maisie described Gorka as “a fab dancer” I dare say somte people would have accused her of being condescending and right up herself, and a fibber if she’d said he’s taught her loads, since she knew a fair bit to begin with.

Maireas · 20/12/2020 10:46

But I had to laugh when Maisie added "I'm so proud of myself!".
