In fact I'd take Newman and Baddiel doing the History Today professors as a Christmas treat, reciting Gary and Maria's lines, and Anna Windass walks past, and Maria says ... that's your mum that is.

Sooty and Soo would make a better fist of it, never mind de Niro and Daly

Or Jon Culshaw and Kate Robbins play dour Gary and Maria but they're reciting the most emotionally charged lines from Anthony and Cleopatra and making them sound like shopping lists.

I think the writers ran out of ideas for Maria years ago to be honest. She’s been a very popular character over the years, so the top brass are loathe to get rid of her, but they just don’t know what to do with her. She’s still getting the same ‘sad working class Princess’ plots she did in her early 20s, when she must be at least 35.

There is no reason why poor Maria can't find happiness. I wish the writers would stop tormenting her. I wish dr Ali would return and sweep her off her feet. I wish this every time I see her.
And where is Seb? Did he move away after his unlikely love triangle?

That's what Coronation St did to him. Dr. Ali faced a future of stitching knickers or pulling pints, so he got the hell out. Can't say i blame him, or the actor who played him. I do miss him though, he was very good looking, despite his oddly square head.
