That is brilliant Grin

But what flavour is it?

Raahh · 18/02/2021 08:14

Well, I woke up in the middle of the night to the news that Osaka had won. Which is good.
Wierdly, my AO app on my phone hadn't updated properly though, and it was showing a point in the Rafa match where Stef had just won won the 3rd set.

In my half asleep-ness, I forgot the match had been playedGrin and thought, ooh good, Rafa's probably got this. Blush

Sad

Stupid phone.

I have everything crossed, that if nothing else, the Djok match today is not a total washout.

Come on Aslan!

Raahh · 18/02/2021 08:53

A butterfly!
Where's AC when you -don't-- need him?

PrivateSpidey · 18/02/2021 09:12

AC would have enjoyed that!

Hope everyone is ok, kazza I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad, will be thinking of you Flowers

I missed most of the Rafa match, only saw a bit of the last set Sad

Aslan's playing well.

magimedi · 18/02/2021 09:15

Go Aslan! Tennis

So pleased Naiomi won.

Off for my vacination shortly - they joy of being old Grin

Good luck Magi .

Private I almost wish I hadn't watched the Rafa match. I think I jinxed it.

I think this game might be the turning point for this set.

PrivateSpidey · 18/02/2021 10:04

What a rally there!!

Hope all goes well magi

Raahh · 18/02/2021 10:24

I went for a shower in the second set. I'm a bit despondent about the whole tournament now- it just feels like a done deal, and I hate it. It seemed to go pear shaped in the first set as soon as Frew said 'well at least it isn't as walk over' Hmm.

It was a great rally before.

I do like that Aslan has probably earned about as much money from this tournament, as he has in his whole career. Grin. That must be an amazing feeling.

Fizzywinegum · 18/02/2021 10:32

I still haven’t seen Aslan play - apparently he’s not very smiley?

I’m still hoping that either Tsitsipas or Medvedev can put up a good fight against Djok in the final. Stef’s confidence will be pretty high after yesterday’s match.

I’m glad that Osaka won - was serena crying at her press conference?

Good luck with the vaccine magi

Raahh · 18/02/2021 10:46

Fizzy I think Sascha will be feeling pretty good after yesterday- but it might physically take it's toll. Medvedev has a good record against him, too. Daniil has a good record against Djok, I think he has the slightly better chance if he makes the final - but both have been in a slam final, and lost when they could have won it. Sascha lost a two set lead, and Daniil came back from 2 sets set down to lose, so it will be interesting to see how they do.

Like Rafa in RG - Djok has never lost in a final in AO.

but I'd love to see it happen this year.

magimedi · 18/02/2021 11:41

Bloody Cock.

I think Medvedev has a better chance than Stefanos in the final............

Got the Oxford jab - all amazingly efiicient & was in & out in about 20 mins.

Raahh · 18/02/2021 11:59

magimedi well done- hope you are feeling ok.

Daniil did well against Djok in London, and is popular with the crowds- which Djok won't like. He clearly didn't like it that the crowd were on Taylor's side the other day, and he hasn't made many friends with the whole 'injury' thing.

if Stefanos gets to the final, I think it will be a bigger task- but it might be a break through for him- again, Stef is very popular with the Aussie crowd (even a small Aussie crowdGrin).

kazzaD66 · 18/02/2021 12:34

Got back from the weekly shop to see the inevitable result! Bloody Cock Angry
I think Medvedev will have a better chance of beating him in the final but it really is down to the usual scenario of anyone but Djok to win Hmm

Medvedev had a much easier match than Stefanos did - it could depend on whether Stef recovers mentally and physically from the Nadal match, otherwise the semi final could be a bit of an anticlimax Hmm

Might try to watch some of the BBC highlights this afternoon (not Cock, though!). I'm a bit worried that the butterfly fancier may be back, though. Catherine signed off yesterday saying that Sue and the team would be presenting for the rest of the tournament. Sue is fine, I'm just worried about who "the team" might include......Hmm

Thanks for all your good wishes. Magi I PMed you and glad the vaccine went well Smile

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2021 15:32

Ooh look at the length of Sue's hair.

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2021 16:19

What's up with Serena? Andrew get on the case!

PrivateSpidey · 18/02/2021 16:24

Oh that press conference made me feel sad - I really want her to win that 24th slam Sad

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2021 16:25

The only reason I'd like her to win one more is to beat Margaret Court's record.

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2021 16:27

Or would that be equal? Two more maybe Grin

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2021 16:28

Does anyone believe Djok is injured? This lot had a good laugh about it.

Raahh · 18/02/2021 16:47

I don't think any of them really believed in the severity of Djok's injury. Listening to the commentary during one match (the Raonic one?) they flip flopped between 'it can't be a tear, he's serving/moving too well to 'it must just be a pull' to 'maybe he is injured' (when there was a slight wobble, so they needed the back up excuse in case he lost).

Because that was what it was- insurance in case he lost, I think. An abdominal strain- but had he lost any of these tight matches, it would have been a full on tear that severely hampered his game, and wasn't he marvellous for even playing?

Look at all the other players who have withdrawn this fortnight with similar injuries because they absolutely couldn't play.

PrivateSpidey · 18/02/2021 16:49

Yes Serena needs two to beat the record. I hope she does it.

Th e BBC team seemed to think Medvedev would have a good chance if he gets through to the final v Djok. I don't think I've seen him (Medvedev) play at all this AO so far. I was looking forward to his match with Rublev and I think it was overnight here and I didn't see any of it!

Fizzywinegum · 18/02/2021 16:50

Oh I think I need to catch up on the catch up programme if only to see what Sue’s hair looks like abs also to see Aslan (if he’s on)

No-one believes that Djok is injured - he’s like the boy who cried wolf!

JaneJeffer · 18/02/2021 16:56

They didn't show it Fizzy

Raahh · 18/02/2021 16:58

The only reason I don't want Daniil to win- is he will go ahead of Rafa in the rankings. So that's another blow for him. But it is bound to happen someday. Rafa has chances to gain points if the clay season goes ahead though. But, saying that - so does MedvedevGrin.

We just need someone to topple Djok. I no longer care who!

Fizzywinegum · 18/02/2021 17:02

Ok thanks Jane - will probably watch tomorrow so will see Sue's hair then

Yes if Djok really did have an abdominal tear he wouldn’t still be playing - I think that’s what happened to Jo Konta and she could barely move

I also think Medvedev would have a better chance against Djok in the final - I think Stef would be a bit overwhelmed but what do I know? I thought Rafa was going to win easily yesterday!
