Apparently they have dropped/reduced some of the harder dances this year due to the shortened timescale.

Maireas · 06/12/2020 13:39

All excellent points, my friends. It certainly does need a review. Craig as head judge and forbid the ridiculous booing.
I don't think either Tess or Claudia are value for money. (and it is some money!).
Great presenters would make a difference - people with charisma and knowledge of dance. The music really, really needs to be improved. Sorry Dave Arch and his wunnerful wunnerful orchestra, but it's true.

BigBadVoodooHat · 06/12/2020 13:40

Anyone see the story about how some musicians were supposedly asked to go on ITT and then dropped when they asked to be paid?*

Shock I didn't see that! That's outrageous! Shame on you, BBC.

Everything to do with this show gets cheaper and nastier by the year Sad

Maireas · 06/12/2020 13:41

@LadyofShallnot - please resign from that job, you are over worked and undervalued. Come and work with me! We would have a laugh.

Maireas · 06/12/2020 13:42

BigBadVoodooHat apart from Claudia's salary - £500k.

Figgygal · 06/12/2020 13:47

It’s got to be JJ’s week this week surely??
Then I expect Jamie next week

We voted Ranvir, NVWLS, with 2 to Ranvir couldn’t give bill a vote this week unfortunately but he will be fine

BigBadVoodooHat · 06/12/2020 13:49

@Comefromaway

Who was it who said that?

I don't buy that as a reason. I think they've had minimal waltzes and foxtrots & no rumbas not because they're 'too hard' (in the early series, waltz was a staple week one dance), but because they're less flashy and so harder to shoehorn stupid themes and CGI graphics into.

Everything has to be FIZZBANG FUNNITY FUN FUN FUN now. That's why we're not seeing any rumbas and getting barely any classic ballroom.

BigBadVoodooHat · 06/12/2020 13:52

@Maireas

American Airlines famously saved US$40,000 a year by removing one olive from each salad in first class.

I see the BBC are following this same principle by removing one sleeve from every dress. But how many sleeves add up to £500k?

Maireas · 06/12/2020 14:16

Ha ha!!! Love it!
Shirley is reportedly on £1m per series, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

Comefromaway · 06/12/2020 14:30

One of the choreographers who works on the show. (Each dance form has a specialist who choreographs/assists the pro dancer).

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 06/12/2020 14:44

What?!

Completely agree with everyone who wants Craig as head judge with Anton, maybe Bruno and one of the other former pros. Actually, I’d love to see a different pro as guest fourth judge on the panel every week.
Yes yes yes to a return to better music, less bastardised versions of ballroom staples and contestants alternating ballroom with Latin week on week again.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2020 14:51

I don't think it's £1m. I've seen £500k Same article says Bruno gets £250k and Craig and Motsi £200k with Bruno earning "6 times that" on DWTS.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 06/12/2020 14:51

maireas if only!

I have to agree to want to go back to strictly of yore.

It isn’t X factor although it is heading that way. Having been dumbed down and jazzed up for no reason, it has lost the joy.

I cannot dance. I love to look at it, learn from it, be moved by it. I don’t need a myriad of fluff, I don’t like to see such a myriad of dances (how unfair if someone’s feet is under a frock and someone else’s feet are flicking and kicking for all to see.

Couples dance should be semi finals only.

And folk shouldn’t keep getting dances that suit them better. Or get come hither footballers hips every single time.

For me, if you asked me to choose between the last couple of series and the twirly days of old school come dancing, I’d be having that.

And sort out the judges. Fllng ll vr thmslvs t bg p hrvy s gttng n my tts.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 06/12/2020 14:55

I’ve not loved the music - this series has been shocking.

And to the folk thinking cgi is the way to go? Its a cgnaw from most of us. Distracting, unnecessary and while the person doing it may think they are giving it their all, we are all getting sair heids and eyes.

ShirleyPhallus · 06/12/2020 14:57

I’ve just seen Gemma Atkinson’s Instagram, I had no idea the three in drag / Priscilla style were Gio, Gorka and Johannes. How did I miss that?!

melj1213 · 06/12/2020 15:31

I'm hoping that this season is super CGI heavy because they cant add extra pro dancers and next year wont be as bad, but I dont hold out much hope.

By musicals week they would definitely have had extra pros backing the couple up , especially for ensemble performances like Jamie and Nvwls' (and it might have shown up Nvwls footwork so they would have to have mentioned it) but without them it doesnt feel as impressive.

I wonder if that's another reason it feels flat - by this point in the series the dances are usually padded out with other dancers, which means they can do more interesting choreography and more to work with but because they aren't allowed to do that this year we are focusing solely on the couple and it feels less like a rounded performance?

ikltownofboothlehem · 06/12/2020 15:38

I've just been reading about JJ's injuries. My word, the poor bloke. He must be in so much pain every single day. It explains a lot about his technique & postures.

IRunLikeJoeBiden · 06/12/2020 15:43

Isn’t the tsunami of cheap CGI something to do with them not being able to use proper sets and props as much this year?

Good grief, JJ and Amy are the most boring thing to watch. Amazed that he is paid for presenting telly and she is paid for performing, what a pair of charisma vacuums they are.

Maisie was so great in the quickstep last week, but the jive didn’t inspire me at all.

Bill just stood about the place and Oti prowled around him, hoping to distract us by the powers of a lace covered arse and ringlets.

Fascinated as ever by Tess’s outfit. If ever I’m invited to a party where the dress code is S&M Drainpipe With A Military Twist, I shall know what to wear.

lynsey91 · 06/12/2020 15:53

Only just watched last night's show. Agree that the singing was terrible but then, to be honest, I have always thought that. They sound like cats in pain.

Not sure why or how Harvey got 2 10's when he made mistakes and those mistakes where actually mentioned by the judges. Maisie deserved 3 10's I thought.

Motsi so needs to go. She is driving me mad. Jumping around like some crazy thing, screeching and shrieking and never really saying anything that is useful or sensible. Anton was a million times better. How did she get the job and, more to the point, why the hell is she still there?

IntermittentParps · 06/12/2020 15:54

Bill just stood about the place and Oti prowled around him, hoping to distract us by the powers of a lace covered arse and ringlets.

But what a lace covered arse it was. She has the most amazing body.

ElspethFlashman · 06/12/2020 15:58

But here's the thing about the whole JJ situation.

People go on Strictly for one reason and one reason alone - to boost their profile and get more telly work.

Nobody made him go on Strictly. It's phenomenally strenuous but God knows there are plenty of other TV series that give you a higher profile without anything like this physical effort. If he was that bad, he'd have done one of those instead.

So it kinda grinds my gears when people act like he's some sort of suffering martyr for having to do it. He doesn't have to do it at all! It's just a bloody dancing show!

He's chosen to do it, and he knows what his body can do. He's obviously fit as a flea. And yes, he has challenges but he hasn't missed a single day's training as far as we know whereas in previous years there were often injuries that sidelined people for a week. Yeah, he has an infected abcess or something on his thigh and he has a dressing on it, but it's clearly not halting his gallop. Yet people talk as if he's the bravest ever for soldiering on regardless.

I hate the victim storyline that's been constructed around JJ. I find it totally downplays his actual abilities and makes them into something miraculous "The Physios say he shouldn't be able to do what he can do!"

Well he can. Because he's worked his arse off and become super fit despite his old injuries. And yet he is constantly just portrayed as DISABLED. Something broken and oh so brave. They may as well have made him wear a name badge with" Poor Blown Up Soldier" on it.

I absolutely hate it. Angry

Absolutely, if I had a figure like that I’d never be out of hot pants.
cordelia16 · 06/12/2020 16:07

I loved the Priscilla number, but would have preferred to see Aljaz instead of Gorka. Obvs Jo-Jo nailed it, and Gio was fabulous and authentic. Gorka seemed uncomfortable or embarrassed . Aljaz could have pulled off the camp joy much better, imho.

Omg yes! When she walked away from the camera at the very beginning of the dance, that is some figure she has Shock
