Morning. Home after a bit of a night. Nuff said. So bit of strickly fluff to take my mind off things and chill me out enough for a sleepy.

I haven’t read anything as I’m watching it in shallnot live mode. Apologies for any hesitations, repetitions or deviations. I’m keeping myself live spoiler free.

So - the pro dance. Loved it - missed ‘hot stuff’. I am camper than camp in my inner core of cow and love me a bit of pzazz. Just the right side of everything for me.

I’m not one for nasty drag. It bothers me. However that was lush and pgorka and Johannes and Jvarney were gorjwaaaaaaaaaas. A man in lippy isn’t usually my bag but sorry. I would be right in there. Oddly compelling and attractive.

Loved Aljaz getting right in there with Johannes too. Lovely stuff. Which would have got me proper shaking if they’d done hot stuff. I had visions. I was very very drawn to pgorka.

Enough already. I could wax lyrical all night.

Musicals week I can take or leave but here goes nowt.

JJ and Ames

Wanted to love this. Ye happy clappy JJ seemed a bit forced. He may well be like that in real life but given that we’ve had the serious version all the way so far, it just felt on the wonk.

That said, it was quietly charming and I thought it was danced well, if a little ‘bitty’. Not a frantic Charleston which I’m used to but I liked it. I wished I loved it.

Could Amy have been any more annoying with the repeated well done Mr Potts. Tak yer heid. Byle it. Wobble it. Shut it.

JoeV and ranvir

She made me a bit teary in her VT. it resonated. No ones ever been proud of me. I’m deserving of nothing. So that got me. But I’m proud of her. And she so deserves this journey she is on.

It was beautiful. My heart broke. And between that and her VT and possibly last night, I watched it through very wet eyes. I may have let out a tiny bit of a sob. I’m proper broken. I love these two. Beautiful. ‘Sake. Stop crying you useless article. ‘Sake. I can’t stop. 😢. All comers to the pity party. I’ll be the hostess with the mostess 😢

*MEasie and Gorks

Tears have gone. Irritating VT. mam wheeled herself in it again. Grrr.

Her frock wasn’t as Bonny as I thought it would be. Danced fine. Felt feckall again. I’d need Audrey II to bite me on the arse throughout to feel anything. I really like pgorka - what a shame he is partnered with someone I don’t warm to. Sad. And the ubiquitous gurnathon.

Did Motsi change her mind about the yen paddle?

Bloti

Jesus. This weren’t Bill’s week were it. Wanted to love it. I didn’t and I love Bill. He could be a bit sticky here. Forgive me but he felt like a letch you’d get down the bop on 80s night. I want to feel wrung out with the passion. I was wrung out like a ffloor cloth.

awaynboilyurheid · 06/12/2020 10:22

Glad to hear it soup its just I know lots of men similar to JJ and I am sure he is enjoying it all, as I said he's not the greatest dancer and again I'm sure he knows that and is grateful to be kept in. If he goes out this week so be it, but he has tried really hard and the boring part may be because of injuries and lack of movement so just felt unfair to hear forgettable and he's hating being in the compettion so often.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 06/12/2020 10:42

Posted by accident too soon. Be back in a minute.

It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t danced terribly. I didn’t feel anything with it. I still love him though.

no vowels and Netty

Ding dong merrily on high, the ringy bell is ringing. Love this song. I danced and sang this with some mates (really reaaallly badly) near the Trevi fountain. My kicks were the biz for a fat lass.

He did do it well. But it wouldn’t have mattered. The judges are so far up his hoop that the soles of their feet are poking out a tiny bit from under his sparkly tails.

So he did well. I felt sod all. We did it better. And me and the nato squaddies got a ruddy bluddyvgood standing ovation as well. So get it up ye Tess.

And we are so far from dingydongyringy people. 🔔

biscuits and Karen

If that gub is open I’m going to scream.

AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaaagh

There was a review. Hidden in the scream. Shut yer muth min. Tess and her ‘they’re on their feet for you’
Shurrrrup. The mouth distracted me so I’ve nowt much to say. sake.

Think biscuits and JJ and Bill are on’t ropes. Thinkin it could be biskwits for the hoof.

That’s me done.

But a mention to my colleague. Thank you for what you did last night. I’m not a one to be close and cuddly. I don’t much care to ask for help or support. But you saw and that gesture got me straight again. No wonder your wife adores you and shouts it from the chimney pots. Thank you for seeing. Ye bloody great legend.

ikltownofboothlehem · 06/12/2020 11:06

if the doctors believed JJ needed the shrapnel removed Now they would put their foot down

Not without his consent they couldn't. Big no no that.

thetemptationofchocolate · 06/12/2020 11:08

When I saw Jamie & Karen come in I thought they had come as the Krankies.

When people say he's "forgettable" they are talking about his dances, not him as a person.

I've got an elbow injury at the moment which makes every movement painful - it is absolutely nothing like what he has to work against but I couldn't do what he is doing!

I don't think it's a lack of movement - Will had the expression and feeling last year. I think it's just his personality working against him. At the start of his Charleston I thought he was going to have a "Louis Smith" moment but it didn't materialise, just stayed as a hint.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 06/12/2020 11:23

Easy done.

They danced like them...

ikltownofboothlehem · 06/12/2020 11:28

Is it me or was it a bit....flat last night? Apart from Ranvir & Gio (3 votes from me) nothing else piqued my interest.

Bill / Oti - flat AT

Maisie / Gorka - she has sum total of three expressions. Good energy but no 'performance'. Again.

JJ / Amy - very little Charleston content, not as fun as it should have been

BVB/Karen - messy, she stood in front to hide his legs, not 'catchy' enough

NVLS & Janette - all flash, no pan. Yes it was good but didn't grab me by the wobbly bits.

It could have been me - bit of a tiring day after all - but, meh I'm afraid.

No not just you. It’s all getting a bit tired. I usually watch on catch up with the remote. Whizz through Tess and all the pre dance videos, just dances and scores. Watched live last night but wasn’t feeling it really.

A bit unfair when the costumes were authentic to the original production

Sorry!

Was being flippant.

I just can’t get past the gaping maw 😧

Horehound · 06/12/2020 12:33

@awaynboilyurheid sorry but I'm not voting Basie's on someone's previous job. And as you said yourself he is not the best dancer and since this is a dancing show...he's the least good of the bunch. And no, not all Scottish men are four bastards but JJ and Andy Murray are like twins and I can't stand either of them.

Not a fan at all. Others are more deserving (for this show) not in life before you take umbridge to my comment.

I think my faves were Maisie and ranvir.

IntermittentParps · 06/12/2020 12:37

Loved both Tess and Claudia's outfits for once.

Opening number ace. Johannes has lovely pins. I don't usually fancy Gorka or Gio but they were both HAWT in that.

I liked JJ's dance, although I agreed with Craig it could've been more extreme. He came out of the VT very well; funny, for once, rather than just earnest and a bit dull.

Ranvir's dance was beautiful. Her acting is astonishingly good and her back is almost like a ballet dancer's in grace and shaping. She and Gio are gorgeous together. I don't know the show or the song but it seriously choked me up, she did it so well.

Maisie was good but she just leaves me cold.

Bill was a bit meh for me but the judges liked it, so good for him.

Harvey was good but I am sick of the sickled feet not being criticised. And he keeps talking over Claudia. No manners.

Jamie had a shite song and outfits but I like his energy and positivity.

I think it's Jamie and Bill in the DO; Jamie is just not very popular and I don't think that dance has won people over. And the AT can look dull if it's a not a sexy one, and unfortunately I suspect the song and routine were not crowd-pleasers.

Karen has been dressed so masculine this year...shame she's missed out on the fabby dresses She had a fantastic tango dress and looked ferociously beautiful in it.

melj1213 · 06/12/2020 12:38

I think that's one of the few problems of using newer musicals, people dont know/recognize them which goes against them as it distracts people from the performance.

People's main distraction for Jamie last night was the costume and some of the choreography which were both directly pulled from the actual musical, so really not their fault.

I love the classics as well as newer musicals (the last 5 I saw were Les Mis, Waitress, Hamilton, Six and Come From Away) but I do think that if they include newer musicals they should try to focus the pre-dance VT on adding context, with maybe a clip from promo stuff from the musical?, so that it helps contextualize some of the stuff that distracted people last night.

Theromanempire · 06/12/2020 12:42

So last night, JJ said that he was pleased to be doing the Charleston as it would show his real personality Shock he has kept that very well hidden for the last 6/7 weeks Grin

SoupDragon · 06/12/2020 12:57

Opening number ace. Johannes has lovely pins. I don't usually fancy Gorka or Gio but they were both HAWT in that.

I thought Johannes looked totally fabulous whereas Gorka and Giovanni looked like men made up by someone who doesn't understand how to put make up on. They looked like caricatures whereas Johannes didn't.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2020 13:00

This series hasn't grabbed me at all really. I wanted Clara to win.
If (when!) Jamie goes I think that will be the end of it for me.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/12/2020 13:10

I agree with every word of Science's post (last one on page 24)

Strictly has lost it's way and it's such a shame - it was an amazing programme, but now caters to sheer silliness a lot of the time. Rubbish music, no adherence to dance discipline, no emphasis on ensuring that dancers perform in they types of dance they are weak in as well as playing to their strength - and don't get me started on contempowaft!

Back to basics please, with Craig as head judge and Anton on the panel in place of Motsi. (I'd even have Bruno back instead of Motsi) And maybe one of the "old" dancers as fourth judge?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/12/2020 13:12

no offence to any Church of Scotland attendees, but you know what I mean

I've often wondered if their theological training includes a module on "Dourness" *Maireas"

melj1213 · 06/12/2020 13:23

I agree that there needs to be a shake up at SCD Glitterball Towers, this series has highlighted the issues with the format that have been glossed over before.

where are the ballroom dances this year? Sick to the back teeth of jives and Charlestons.

I would agree, and I also think that everyone should have to alternate ballroom and Latin every week so nobody can avoid dances they dont like.

the judging panel needs to go back to basics in looking at technique and scoring appropriately. Only Craig has any integrity and he should be Head Judge.

Agreed - I wish they'd go back to everyone doing the same few dances each show because we could then have real technical critique. They could even do a choreography corner style VT at the start of the show, showing us a few key steps/moves of the dance that the judges will be looking out for, so we get to learn about the dances too.

They also need to stop with the pantomime booing of Craig, he is the only judge I want to listen to as he provides critique aand constructive feedback

The selection of Motsi to replace Darcey is unfathomable. I can barely understand a word she says, but she is loud and hysterical.

I wouldnt mind if they relaced her with Anton next season, and I'm fine if Bruno stays in LA too.

Tess to go. She’s had an amazing run given how bad she is at presenting, it’s amateur hour every week and the partnership with Claudia is tired.

But what are they going to do with all the one armed costumes they need to get rid of? Vicky Giggles wont have time to sew all of those arms back on to the outfits.

I do agree though, for the amount of time she has done the show she still seems stilted and unnatural as a presenter.

The music choices have been, mainly, abysmal. Please expand the repertoire from sub par pop songs and select music appropriate for each dance. Also be more fair about it. Some of the couples have been landed with awful music choices.

Songs need to be fit to the dances, not the other way around. And I would rather have a waltz done to a nice classical piece of music, in the correct tempo than trying to shoehorn the latest top 10 pop piece into it.

The singing needs to be improved.

I wonder if this is why they no longer introduce the singers by name, so we dont know who to blame.

They could quite easily showcase different performers every week rather than the same out of tune/key few people.

Like last night, they could easily have invited some West End performers to perform the songs from the musicals, considering they were highlighting the plight of the WE theatres and the performers who have been out of jobs for nearly a year.

The CGI engineer has been given too much free rein and the over emphasis on special effects is taking away from the dancing.

Srsly, that and the camera angles need to be stopped. I want to watch the couples dance, not be made dizzy by spinning cameras and cgi animals.

down with the sentimental family videos. These people are dancing, they are not putting their lives in danger

But how will we know how much to vote for someone if we dont know how proud their Nan's best friends neighbour's cat's cousin's postman is of them reaching week 2?!?!

IntermittentParps · 06/12/2020 13:27

I don't know a thing about make-up and won't pretend to. I just thought they both looked beautiful.

Like last night, they could easily have invited some West End performers to perform the songs from the musicals, considering they were highlighting the plight of the WE theatres and the performers who have been out of jobs for nearly a year. I'd guess they either can't afford to or don't want to. Anyone see the story about how some musicians were supposedly asked to go on ITT* and then dropped when they asked to be paid?

*I do realise the main show will have a bigger budget than ITT, but you take my point.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/12/2020 13:29

Didn't they do something like this in the early days?

There used to be a little bit on the costumes as well - how they were chosen and put together etc. I loved that.

Songs need to be fit to the dances, not the other way around. And I would rather have a waltz done to a nice classical piece of music, in the correct tempo than trying to shoehorn the latest top 10 pop piece into it

ONE MILLION PERCENT AGREEMENT WITH THIS!

good point

Yes, yes, 100% yes to this.

It's so disappointing. I've noticed that this series in particular, the precious few ballroom dances that have been done have all been essentially American Smooths. Apparently now you can pop in and out of hold at will. Sad

It's gone the way of DWTS, where the dances are basically little more than a nod to the general style of whatever dance they're doing.

And the pro dances are an abomination. Just random, heavily themed, frantic messes. Sad
