  • The music choices have been, mainly, abysmal. Please expand the repertoire from sub par pop songs and select music appropriate for each dance. Also be more fair about it. Some of the couples have been landed with awful music choices

Going by MN, Bill will be safe and Maisie is for DO.

MyBonnyLiesOverTheOcean2020 · 06/12/2020 07:24

Loved this episode - so uplifting.

Maisie – fabulous routine. I thought she was wonderful and hope she stays in.

Hrvy – wonderful – love this pairing. Would be great for Janette to get her first trophy.

Jamie – love him but this was not his dance – I thought he was pretty flat footed. As others have said the choreography was lifted from the musical but I didn’t think it really suited the jive – it didn’t allow for a wow factor. Hope he stays in because he’s so enthusiastic and funny. Karen is such a great teacher – she brings the best out of everyone she dances with, no matter their ability. Difficult to follow Hrvy whose routine should have closed the show.

JJ – decent but quite forgettable performance. Made fewer mistakes than Bill. Amazing what he achieves with his injuries.

Ranvir – love her and this partnership. The personal stuff should be icky and too much but she’s so genuine for once this kind of thing I didn’t find vomit inducing. Gio recently always seems to get the best out of his partner – it’s all about them unlike some of the choreography done by other pros.

Bill – didn’t do much and yet still managed to make lots of mistakes. Overmarked as always. Would like him to be in the bottom two but he seems to have such support that he won’t be, unless others are put out by the way the judges are being too nice to him. For a comedian his little routine with the mask before the dance was just not funny??

Would like it to be Bill and JJ in the d/o but think it will be JJ, (poss Ranvir) and Jamie and Jamie will go ☹

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000pr3c/strictly-it-takes-two-series-18-episode-22 Jamie and Karen being interviewed by Zoe. They have such a great relationship and he is so funny, particularly when he described how difficult the tango is - "you have to do it so it looks like you need to go to the toilet" Grin

MyBonnyLiesOverTheOcean2020 · 06/12/2020 07:33

winechateaujoy I love musicals and will be going to see one as soon as I possibly can. I absolutely love Greatest Showman - what I wouldn't give to see Hugh Jackman in that on stage.

I was lucky enough to see Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma at the National back in the 90s - before he was the enormous name that he is now. He was fab. Maureen Lipman was also in it.

MyBonnyLiesOverTheOcean2020 · 06/12/2020 08:00

"For some reason, both Jamie and Karen are dressed like they work in a Peugeot dealership. I’m not entirely clear on the plot of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, but I’m guessing his job flogging mid-range French cars is not why everybody’s talking about him." @FuzzyPuffling

I loved "The Commitments". I am clearly out of step with everyone, in everything.

(Takes Octo, Puffin and runs)

BRING BACK THE MASCOTS, YOU SELFISH PUFFLING!
SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/12/2020 08:39

Octo says JJ and BVB in the dance off, with JJ to go.

I could live with that,

BigBadVoodooHat · 06/12/2020 08:41

I just think that what Jamie lacks in technical skill (and whilst he's no ringer, I've been pleasantly surprised at what he can do)

He's a bit ringer-y ~ he studied contemporary dance as part of his Theatre and Performance degree.

Not the ringeriest ringer that's ever been on the show, but he didn't start from zero.

awaynboilyurheid · 06/12/2020 09:05

Love a musical, my favourite is Les Mis but really like wicked and enjoyed waitress before lockdown.
Loved Ranvirs dance very simple yet elegant and the song is brilliant! Not sure I would go to see all about Jaime now either, didn’t think the tune went with a jive at all although he does try hard at all his dances.
Loved JJ and Amy, he did so much better than I thought at the jive., all those who say he’s not enjoying it, he is!! He’s trying hard and he’s said so! that’s how dour Scottish men look when they are enjoying themselves!
if Motsi thinks an ex marine, Edinburgh raised man, is going to grin from ear to ear with jazz hands to show he loves the dance she will wait forever.
Thought it was Bill’s poorest dance, agree marking too high and totally disagree with Craig didn’t see a strong lead.
Maisie did almost the same dance just can’t get excited about her dances.
Loved Harvry and Jeanette next to Ranvir it was my favourite of the night.

What was Tess wearing ?

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 06/12/2020 09:12

MyBonny For a comedian his little routine with the mask before the dance was just not funny??

I thought that too, total waste of time. I like Bill but agree he’s overmarked. Was going to give him my third vote last night - first two to Ranvir and Maisie - but changed my mind at the last minute and gave it to the baron instead. He’s such a trier and I always enjoy him and Karen no matter what.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 06/12/2020 09:28

I’m wondering if bottom two will be Bill and Jamie. Would love it to be Bill and JJ or Jamie and JJ with JJ to go, but the something keeping JJ in must be a huge amount of public support or he’d be long gone.

I’m thinking could be Bill because, although he also has a lot of support, he’s definitely been overmarked and I get the feeling he now thinks he’s better than he actually is and is slightly surprised by some of the judges’ criticism- albeit very mild criticism. He seems to me to have plateaued a bit and isn’t quite fulfilling the promise of his earlier dances.

Maireas · 06/12/2020 09:30

JJ is the son of a Moderator of the Church of Scotland. That he's dancing at all and showing emotion is something, I would agree awaynboilyurheid.

Maireas · 06/12/2020 09:31

no offence to any Church of Scotland attendees, but you know what I mean

lollipoprainbow · 06/12/2020 09:34

Amy had to mention what the physio guy had said about JJ didn't she ! Trying to get the sympathy votes I feel.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2020 09:36

I read this week that JJ will need an operation as soon as he's out of Strictly to remove shrapnel that has started causing an infection. I wonder if he would quite like to go out now.

Skipsurvey · 06/12/2020 09:38

if bill is in the dance off he may go, but i dont know technicality, i like bill very much but this tango could be his downfall

Skipsurvey · 06/12/2020 09:38

i read that as well about JJ and thought, here we go , further sympathy votes coming through.

rollonoctober · 06/12/2020 09:38

I've been lurking on these threads since the start of the series after returning to strictly for the first time in years and years so hope you don't mind me joining in!

For what it's worth, having not watched strictly for a long time, I do miss the proper ballroom. I don't mind the odd Charleston but don't really get the couples choice and there's not nearly enough of the classic dances. Also, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I do miss the rumba. That was always a dance where there was nowhere to hide and I think Rachel Stevens' rumba with Vincent from years back is one of my favourite strictly dance ever (having watched lots and lots of everyone's favourites from a thread I started asked for recommendations on brilliant dances I missed in the years I wasn't watching).

For this week, I actually thought Motsi was a lot calmer than normal and gave some proper dance critique which was nice. I thought Maisie, NVWLS and Ranvir were great. Didn't like Bill or JJ at all, both left me cold in different ways. Where was the fun in JJ's Charleston?! And bill looked like he was just going through the motions, which is unlike him, Oti doing too much. I didn't love BVB's routine either, but he's just so full of joy and enthusiasm that it's hard not to like him. JJ and Bill for the dance off for me, with JJ to go.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2020 09:38

@Maireas

JJ is the son of a Moderator of the Church of Scotland. That he's dancing at all and showing emotion is something, I would agree awaynboilyurheid.
Is he showing any emotion? I mean he plastered a smile on his face but that's not the same thing.

(FWIW, I would probably be the same - it's not a criticism of his character 😂)

Skipsurvey · 06/12/2020 09:39

if the doctors believed JJ needed the shrapnel removed Now they would put their foot down Wink

awaynboilyurheid · 06/12/2020 09:44

@Maireas

no offence to any Church of Scotland attendees, but you know what I mean
Yes! For those who dont get dour scotmen and thier psyche, think of Andy Murray, love Andy think he's amazing, but can you imagine him dancing and getting all excitable about it NO! Doesnt mean he's not feeling it inside! I think JJ is loving every minute of it!
SoupDragon · 06/12/2020 09:46

@Skipsurvey

if the doctors believed JJ needed the shrapnel removed Now they would put their foot down Wink
Like I said, he will have it when he is out of strictly. He said so in the interview.
awaynboilyurheid · 06/12/2020 09:52

Also JJ doesn not want sympathy I'm sure,
he has suffered more that most of us realise Just show respect, is he a fab dancer No is he trying in his own way Yes
but this boring and forgettable talk is a bit much He has suffered so much and almost died through his job, which most of us will never have to witness or deal with thankfully and for that I have the greatest respect.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2020 10:00

Thinking his dances are boring and unforgettable doesn't mean I don't respect him or think he is amazing for doing it at all.
