Love musicals, already planning to go to as many as possible next year. Les Mis, Wicked and Hamilton are my favourites. Loved Matilda too.
I thought Maisie and Hrvy were both brilliant tonight.
JJ or Jamie to go.

PawFives · 05/12/2020 21:27

I hope Octo is correct @FuzzyPuffling but worry about Ranvir, think Bill’s fan base will see him through.

Sunbird24 · 05/12/2020 21:30

I think if it’s a Ranvir vs JJ dance off she’ll be fine, her technique always gets better praise than his

herecomesthsun · 05/12/2020 21:43

I loved the film. I also went to Dublin on a whim with a young Irish man I had recently met, for the craic, just after the film came out, and we went out with his mates, and all the actors from the Commitments were drinking in the next booth. I think they were authentic Irish Grin

JayAlfredPrufrock · 05/12/2020 21:46

Brilliant film.

Maireas · 05/12/2020 21:47

I hate musical theatre so this is my least favourite week. The music never seems to work with the dances, although the Chorus Line one was good. I understand they have to keep interest with theme weeks, but none of the music sounds any good to me. (I appreciate that this is heresy for most of you!!)

Voice0fReason · 05/12/2020 21:57

I liked Maisie, Ranvir and HRVY this evening. Though I still find HRVY irritating.
I love Bill but this wasn't his dance.
JJ was ok.
Jamie was awful.

Samcro · 05/12/2020 22:04

Flame me but i liked jjs dance, so we voted jj, bill and bvb.
I am annoyed by maisie always getting high scores for yet another fast dance.
Harvey was very good.

dementedma · 05/12/2020 22:05

Jamie v Jj in dance off. I thought this was actually jj's best dance. He is really restricted in his movements given his injuries and he did well. I love Jamie' enthusiasm but that was sloppy.

willsantausesantatize · 05/12/2020 22:06

When will Maisie do a slow dance?

herecomesthsun · 05/12/2020 22:07

She did the Frozen II themed dance very well, that was ballroom wasn't it?

AnneShirleysNewDress · 05/12/2020 22:18

I thought that too lalallama.

tenlittlecygnets · 05/12/2020 22:34

Resulting in a shock exit if it's Jamie against Ranvir - the producers may have briefed the judges to save Jamie

Why, @GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat ??

I love Giovanni. He's gorgeous and is so lovely with his partners.

Very honest VT from Ranvir tonight.

ShirleyPhallus · 05/12/2020 22:51

@Samcro

Flame me but i liked jjs dance, so we voted jj, bill and bvb. I am annoyed by maisie always getting high scores for yet another fast dance. Harvey was very good.
Why does it annoy you if she gets high scores for fast dances? She does dance them well
Livpool · 05/12/2020 23:12

Who is bvb?! Sorry!

Impatiens · 05/12/2020 23:23

Livpool bvb=baron von biscuits aka Jamie. He's called that because he is (was?) heir to McVities dont'cha know!

melj1213 · 06/12/2020 00:00

Just home from work and catching up on tonight's show ... I love musicals, I live in the North but I try to get to London at least once a year to see shows in the WestEnd and I live for shows going on tour as they always go to Manchester and/or Liverpool, both of which are only a couple of hours away from me, so I get to seea lot of shows that way.

I loved the opening dance, Johannes killed it but I was constantly distracted by Gorka's shoes ... clearly hes not used to dancing in a proper heel Grin

JJ and Amy - it was all a bit meh. It never really got started and just felt far too slow and flat for a Charleston.

Ranvir and Gio - I loved it. I may be biased because I love that song and Waitress as a whole, I think it especially helps to understand the characterisation if you know the context of the song in the show, but the dancing was wonderful.

Maisie and Gorka - I loved their jive, not a huge fan of the CGI but it wasnt too in your face. I think having a defined character to embody definitely helped Maisie, she seemed far more relaxed than when she has to be herself.

Bill and Oti - it really wasnt Bill's dance but I feel like they were stitched up a bit. It's a hard dance for a celeb male to be showcased in and PotO as an AT was done a couple of years ago by Davood (and was the week he went out) so it must be hard to try and keep a dance fresh when it has literally been done before.

Nvwls and Janette- a ringer is gonna do what a ringer is gonna do when given the ringer-iest dance you can possibly do for musicals week

Jamie and Karen - I think it was OK but a lot of the criticisms I've seen for the choreography are for elements that are actually either directly pulled from or a nod to the actual musical's choreography, which is a little unfair. Unfortunately I think it will suffer from being taken out of context as a standalone dance by people who have never seen the show.

MrsDoctorDear · 06/12/2020 00:02

Was surprised at JJ, his best dance so far, although he should have been out by now.

Loved Ranvir and Gio, that spin was so long!

Maisie and Gorka fantastic.

Bill and Oti (my favourite pro ever) pretty average. She was flicky to disguise his lack of steps.

Hrvy and Jeanette loved it! Proper old school.

Jamie and Karen brilliant choreography, he kept up well.

Bill or JJ to go. Preferably JJ.

melj1213 · 06/12/2020 00:10

On the balance of performance I'm predicting a JJ vs Jamie or Bill dance off and im hoping JJ goes.

I just think that what Jamie lacks in technical skill (and whilst he's no ringer, I've been pleasantly surprised at what he can do) he makes up for in enthusiasm and energy and he looks like hes living his best life and enjoying being there.

As for Bill, I have been surprised at how not terrible he is but I do think this week was his weakest, but hopefully if he was in the DO they would take into account the difficulty of showcasing a male celeb in an AT.

JJ just doesnt look like hes actually enjoying the process and while he might be doing the steps in the right order he just doesnt seem to actually perform the dances. I understand that his injuries will make things harder and hes not a performer but hes not the first competitor who has had a physical disability and they all seemed to be having far more fun. Also, cynical me hopes JJ goes this week because it's feels like its the first week where his dance hasn't been themed round the military or his nationality so I wouldnt feel bad about them letting him go.

ElspethFlashman · 06/12/2020 00:30

When Motsi was like "this is the first time I've seen you smile" to JJ, I couldn't help but think that's not a good thing in the quarter finals! He tried to look chipper tonight but it looked massively forced.

And Amy is really annoying me this year and she used to be my absolute favourite. She's coming across like a bad actress. Like she's reading an inspirational autocue with this terrifying fixed pageant smile.

ElspethFlashman · 06/12/2020 00:33

Bill was shiiiiiiite but I blame the Argentine Tango which always shows everyone up.

Those bloody Rondés or whatever they're called - where they trace a circle with their foot - everyone seems to draw a potato instead.

And every time you get a couple in an upright tight hold in the AT there's always wobbling.

It's rapidly becoming the dance I dread most because you can't hide anything in it.

ElspethFlashman · 06/12/2020 00:36

I'm another one who got more than a bit emosh during Ranvirs VT.

Last week I was perplexed by her, but this week she let it all out and it was lovely.

And Gio is a total Sucker for a damsel in distress and it definitely brings out the best in him.

And if fancying Gio in drag more than in boy clothes is wrong, then I don't wanna be right. Blush

ScienceSensibility · 06/12/2020 00:59

@Butterflyfluff

Is anyone else thoroughly bored of Jamie and Karen looking like twins?
Completely over it.

Not a spark of originality from wardrobe this year.

Also sick of seeing his wide open gob in every bloody dance. Go home Jamie.

ScienceSensibility · 06/12/2020 01:13

@Sparklingbrook

Possibly *@Comefromaway*. It's not making me go and see the Jamie one that's for sure.

I am wondering if this whole show needs a bit of a shake up/format change.

Absolutely.

Whilst I am grateful for the efforts to get the show on air this year, it needs a massive shake up. So many elements are unbearable verging on unwatchable.

  • where are the ballroom dances this year? Sick to the back teeth of jives and Charlestons.
  • the judging panel needs to go back to basics in looking at technique and scoring appropriately. Only Craig has any integrity and he should be Head Judge.
  • The selection of Motsi to replace Darcey is unfathomable. I can barely understand a word she says, but she is loud and hysterical.
  • Tess to go. She’s had an amazing run given how bad she is at presenting, it’s amateur hour every week and the partnership with Claudia is tired.
  • The music choices have been, mainly, abysmal. Please expand the repertoire from sub par pop songs and select music appropriate for each dance. Also be more fair about it. Some of the couples have been landed with awful music choices.
  • The singing needs to be improved.
  • The CGI engineer has been given too much free rein and the over emphasis on special effects is taking away from the dancing.
  • get some new script writers. The same platitudes are rolled out for every show. The journey!!
  • down with the sentimental family videos. These people are dancing, they are not putting their lives in danger!

I am struggling each week to find some remnants of the spirit of SCD. Most of the time it bores me and I use it as background whilst I read or do something else.

Skipsurvey · 06/12/2020 04:26

I did like HRVY but voted Bill Ranvir and Jamie, worried for Bill
