Baron von Biscuits has been the surprise. His effort, joy and charm have made him a really nice dancer to watch and he's a non dancer who's genuinely improved. Maisie and JJ both lack charm, but we can at least empathise with JJ's back story. Clara has been a disappointment. I don't know what's gone wrong. She's engaging, energetic and working hard. Maybe it just doesn't always click with her.

ElspethFlashman · 29/11/2020 09:42

It almost seems to me that Clara has been underprepared the last couple of weeks.

Encyclo · 29/11/2020 09:48

Agree. I get the feeling that Clara hasn't put the same level of work in this week and last week as the other contestants.

She's a full time broadcaster though right? Other contestants are able to devote all their time to it.

Cygne · 29/11/2020 09:54

@DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes

When Scotsmen were leaping around the Highlands in kilts in the 16th century they wouldn't have been wearing Victorian dress kilts in the 16th century.
Even Victorian dress kilts aren't "made for the Viennese Waltz" as JJ claimed. If anything, they're made for Scottish dancing, which is a very different thing.
TheMadGardener · 29/11/2020 09:56

Yes, I think she and Aljaž don't start practising until the afternoon after her radio show finishes, whereas others like Bill and Oti are practising at 9am and going right through to the evening. Must make a difference.

Cygne · 29/11/2020 09:58

I like Clara, but after two bad weeks I think it has to be recognised that she has probably reached the limits of her dancing abilities.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 29/11/2020 10:06

@Cygne I took it to mean he see the VW with all the spinning as a the ideal opportunity for a kilt rather than him thinking kilts were literally invented for the VW.

That's what I understood too.

@Cygne

That seems contrary to me - surely as an obviously talented beginner she has far more to achieve than some of those who've had previous training?

Her jive was very fast-paced so as soon as she went wrong it was hard for her to find a way in again. And her shoes were an issue in how it looked. Perhaps she's injured a foot and that's the reason for flat shoes or they were trying something different but Alijaz surely knows how important the look of the feet are to jive and how much Craig always goes on about pointing toes?

I feel annoyed on her behalf, I don't think the show has looked after her properly, giving crap make-up and outfits week after week and some really harsh comments.

Theromanempire · 29/11/2020 10:23

I have just watched Clara's dance again to see if I could spot the errors the judges referred to. It does look a bit like a dance dis-ah-ster on second viewing! She forgot the steps several times and does completely the wrong steps at one point - Aljiaz is stood with his hand out waiting for her to slide through his legs and she is merrily boogying away in her own world Blush on second viewing, i think the scoring may have been generous Grin

awaynboilyurheid · 29/11/2020 10:30

Clara has been looked after the same as everyone else , She forgot her steps and had a bad week. Aliaz looked crestfallen not his smiley self at all he realises she could go.
Yes agree with others who say JJ meant it showed off a kilt at the spinning around bits o& the dance, same as when you are doing Scottish country dancing when the men spin round. He didn’t mean it had actually been invented for a Viennese waltz which I’m sure he is aware is not actually a Scottish dance he’s not thick! Really like his dances they are classic and thought he danced well last night he much prefer his quiet humble dignity to Maisie’s in your face, I’m fab me, attitude.

SequinsandStiIettos · 29/11/2020 10:31
Preferred Will Young to Jamie (even though I threw him two votes yesterday). Less chess bothering! Grin But at least Jamie's song was better than this monstrosity which ruined the whole thing Petey's tango also had the chuck the game on the floor at 1.10 but cards rather than chess. Bad sports, these dancers, eh?! Wink
EvilRingahBitch · 29/11/2020 10:31

Yes she seems to have gone blank on the choreography at least three times. I hope she makes a better stab at it if she’s in the dance-off.

SequinsandStiIettos · 29/11/2020 10:41

The four I want in the final are Bill, Ranvir, Jamie and Harvey (yes, even after that couples bollocks!) For this to happen there needs to be a Maisie vs NVWLS dance-off where he is better than her on the night.
Not sure I am going to get it. I think Clara ought to go now, JJ has outstayed his welcome and Maisie can pick up the extra 20k they make for reaching quarter-finals then sashay away.

SequinsandStiIettos · 29/11/2020 10:54

I have just rewatched Clara and would want to be paired with Aljaz, seeing him react to her mistakes. Even when she does a Lulu and does her own thing entirely near the end, he just keeps smiling and encouraging her. If she is in the DO, there is plenty of chance to improve there. Just doing it like they had in rehearsals. It had looked so good on ITT but the costuming done her dirty.

CharityDingle · 29/11/2020 10:59

Go Away Tens.

Too many tens being flung out this year, imo.

ElspethFlashman · 29/11/2020 11:08

I think in a different year she'd have gotten 4s for it.

She was stompy from the beginning and then the wheels fell off the bus entirely. She literally did not know the dance well enough.

I really think it's a practice time issue. And I'm not sure she's really got her head in the game. She seems to treat it a bit like a lark, whereas the rest of them are treating it like Boot Camp at this stage.

I do like her very much, but she's falling behind hugely and there has to be a reason for it.

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 11:12

Clara was really happy to be dancing to Tina Turner though Sad

Theromanempire · 29/11/2020 11:13

elspeth exactly, the marks were extremely generous. The steps she got correct looked stomp and heavy although the shoes made it look 10 times worse!!! Don't suppose it matters as it is the position on the leaderboard that counts in terms of points so whether she was scored 4's or 7's, her position would be bottom.

However, if she is in the dance off, there is plenty of room for improvement GrinGrin

Quartz2208 · 29/11/2020 11:19

If Clara is in the dance off and dances it better I guess she could be saved. I agree though she doesnt seem to be as focused as some of the others

We vote for Bill and Jamie (DD loves the fact he is the owner of Candy Kittens which are sweets she can eat as dont contain gelatine).

LadyJaye · 29/11/2020 11:36

BVB owns Candy Kittens? Really? I love them, especially the sour watermelon ones.

Samcro · 29/11/2020 11:47

i do feel for the non dancers like clara/ranvir/bb/jj They don't even have the musicalness of Bill.
must be hard to know that what ever you do the ringers will end up getting the top spot/

ElspethFlashman · 29/11/2020 11:55

Yeah, he started it.

So he's actually a millionaire all on his own.

Gooseysgirl · 29/11/2020 12:24

Have they axed the rumba? I don't think we've had one yet? Sadly I think it's time for Clara to go unless she is saved by voters. She will need a miracle in the dance off if she's there.

ChoccyJules · 29/11/2020 12:42

Watched it now, I think Clara and JJ are now the weakest dancers, though who knows who will actually be in the dance off.

Janette and H did a good dance (was it supposed to be contempowaft or street?) not quite as annoying as much of her output, I might have gone for 9s though.

Maisie was also much more personable this week, they are trying desperately to support her. Her dance was fab, so more 9s from me, she should have been on a par with H, scores-wise.
