@FlyingByTheSeatof

That's because she loves him and wants to see him. All family members are forced to shun their family members if that's what's been decided.
She could see him privately though? Surely shed must have known what would happen to him if the other cult members saw him?

And he obviously had an awful relationship with his father. I wonder if that's going to prove relevant?

ageingdisgracefully · 06/12/2020 12:58

Who's Kristen and her son. I'm confused now. Totally forgotten who's who.

I meant Tommi, son of Kristjan. The lad who disappeared. I couldn't remember his name.

I get the Jehovah thing now. But yes - he could've met his sister in private surely?

FlyingByTheSeatof · 06/12/2020 13:25

I think his sisters very controlling husband (and rest of the JW for that matter) is / are keeping a very tight reign on her so she was unable to slip out to see him.

FlyingByTheSeatof The saturday 9pm slot if now know for its Scandi Noir thrillers.

And why would they put all of it onto iplayer, when what they hope is that viewing figures will be high.

The usually put the ones they dont rate higly on iPlayer.

For instance, but haven't checked, Dark Material is only shown once a week.

Lots of people are saying during lockdown they prefer this "old" way of doing things. A bit like when Dickens actually published what became novels as series in newspapers.

But as to the plot, have to say I still remain unimpressed. Nobody seems to be behaving responsibly, and the theme seems to be a rehash of so many others.

But on the other hand, we have all been made aware that far too many children's homes were places of abuse and violence..

Sad
stumbledin · 06/12/2020 16:21

There's a new eurothriller started on More 4. Not a patch on Spiral of course.

I started a thread here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/4098862-Nordic-Murders-More-4-Fridays-9pm

notacooldad · 06/12/2020 16:39

Do you think there's any relevance in Amar's tattoo?
It is distinct and they've made a point if showing it at least twice?

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2020 16:54

He also seems to have several scars, from beatings?

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2020 16:57

Thanks stumbledin, will check it out some time this week.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 06/12/2020 17:32

I presumed his scars were from self harming as were those of the young boy with the intoxicated mum. I'm sure we'll find out exactly why she wants to numb herself to that extent and what exactly is behind the scarring

FlyingByTheSeatof · 06/12/2020 17:34

I wonder if the JW are an abusive bunch maybe ? Got to be reason behind them and him falling out like that coupled with the scars

FlyingByTheSeatof · 06/12/2020 17:38

Lots of people are saying during lockdown they prefer this "old" way of doing things. A bit like when Dickens actually published what became novels as series in newspapers

So basically a box set is the equivalent of a whole novel is all I'm getting from this in that the reader / watcher has moved on to wanting their story told at their own pace. Which like I've already pointed out is all at once thank you very much not week by week

FlyingByTheSeatof · 06/12/2020 17:42

Ps 'thank you very much' etc is aimed at the BBC not PP I hasten to add

stumbledin · 06/12/2020 17:49

No the reader /viewer has moved on from the I want it all and I want it now, has has relearnt the pleasure of spreading things out!

But seriously, I think it is to get the viewing figures up on BBC4.

IcedPurple · 06/12/2020 17:55

I kind of like the 'discipline' of having to wait a week between episodes, and I also like being able to discuss it here without fear of spoilers. Maybe I'd feel differently if this were 'edge of your seat' stuff, but since I'm not that desperately in suspense, I'm happy to wait a week for the next episode.

DuncinToffee · 06/12/2020 18:00

It was shown on Netflix, I assume as the whole boxset.

Personally I quite enjoy weekly episodes, it builds up the suspense and gets the discussion going. I also enjoy the binge watching, done plenty over the first lockdown, so a combination works well for me.

Back to this series, I said I find the plot predictable but I didn't see the 2 murderers coming.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 06/12/2020 18:39

Good point re spoilers actually as that is a big reason to ruin a boxset although people on the whole tend to be pretty good at not revealing spoilers

FlyingByTheSeatof · 06/12/2020 18:42

I've started watching Deadwind on Netflix which I'm enjoying so far.

Peregrina · 06/12/2020 23:03

I also assumed that it's only Magnus who has told Arnar to return to Oslo because he wants him out of the way. He hasn't had a direct recall. I would love to see a scene where he gets back to Oslo and they ask him why he's back.

MotherForker · 06/12/2020 23:26

Started watching Deadwind to tonight, I like it

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/12/2020 19:10

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/12/2020 19:12

and yes i love the fact we have to wait a week to watch, can discuss it and no spoilers

OP posts:
MotherForker · 07/12/2020 19:13

The sister is controlled by her husband, domestic abuse. She desperately wants to see him, to have him there. If she spoke out she would be in serious trouble and at risk of further abuse.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/12/2020 19:33

@MotherForker

The sister is controlled by her husband, domestic abuse. She desperately wants to see him, to have him there. If she spoke out she would be in serious trouble and at risk of further abuse.
So why did she keep asking him to come to a place where she knew he'd be seen and presumably knew he wouldn't be welcomed by anyone else? Why not just meet him privately if she was afraid of her husband? Makes no sense.
