SCD '20 #6: Have no fear, Judge Anton's here!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 14/11/2020 17:18

I'm a bit worried we'll run out the other thread tonight, and it'll be too fast-paced for me to get a new one going during the show, so I'm getting prepared early!

Feel free to place mark or watch this thread, but head back to the previous thread for the moment, and we can move across later. Glitterball

@derxa

CQ was very annoying in Jonathan Creek. She was always talking while eating. Don't know why that's so annoying to me but there you go.
Surely that was a directorially sanctioned character trait, rather than evidence of a specific defect in CQ’s personality?
MoonJelly · 15/11/2020 11:46

I started out thinking Anton was overworking till Shirley came out with three 10s, which was bloody ridiculous. The only one who actually came close to deserving it was Clara.

MoonJelly · 15/11/2020 11:46

Overmarking, not overworking!

MoonJelly · 15/11/2020 11:48

@SoupDragon

And claiming CQ has somehow broken Johannes? I just don’t see that at all, feel like I’m watching something totally different.

Me too.

Ditto.

People on these threads seem to get so much more bitchy about women than they do about men. Witness the way the pretty one on Bake Off always gets slagged off.

ElspethFlashman · 15/11/2020 11:48

I don't mind CQ and don't get how Johannes is supposed to be looking unhappy. She's a hard worker and perfectly pleasant and that's basically all a pro wants.

I can't quite put my finger on it with CQ. She's a nice woman. Perfectly nice. Very appreciative, absolutely loving it, seems to be doing it For The Love of Dahhhhnce. Very polite and gives props to Johannes and says lovely things about him.

But is she actually having fun? Is that what's bothering me? Where is the jollity?

ElspethFlashman · 15/11/2020 11:50

By the way I have the exact same discomfort about JJ, who looks stressed 100% of the time.

Cheer up JJ!

peachypetite · 15/11/2020 11:57

Think it could be JJ gone this week

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 15/11/2020 11:59

Today 10:00 SchadenfreudePersonified

I'm not a great one for "influencers" etc, but I do like to see someone who is a good role model with regard to body image.

Same. I caught a few minutes of the little mix search for a backing group thing a few weeks ago and I’m convinced some of the girls had Botox and lip filler.... not one of them over 25.

MoonJelly · 15/11/2020 12:03

It was such a shame Jason left last week. Was there no option for him to be brought back in when Nicola and Katya had to leave?

He presumably stopped self-isolating so it wouldn't be an option. Plus it would be incredibly awkward if they brought him back only for him to be gone again immediately.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 15/11/2020 12:08

Also really unfair in the people that weren't reinstated when someone else pulled out in previous years.
The potential 5 couple final meant they were prepared for a drop out or two.

KurriKawari · 15/11/2020 12:13

Also think anyone who dances with Dianne or Jeanette will be a surprise boot.

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 15/11/2020 12:19

I loved CQ at the start but I got fed up with the Sam farmer mince. I’m sure she is lovely and everything but it is all too intense for me to enjoy.

Clearly I know neither of them but Johannes started off all giddy and he seems a little stressy to me. The easy smile was not evident to me last night.

I get that it is hard. I get that it is intense. But if I were doing it, I would love to have actual fun with it.

I also apologis for my feelings about Maisie. But I felt the exact same about Karim. And go an extent about Hrvy. Nothing to do with their sex.

Just the stage school aura about it all.

JamminDoughnuts · 15/11/2020 12:30

Johannes does seem a little uptight, but that could be his personality. and Caroline serious but it was funny when she pushed him away in favour of Anton
i guess that is her sense of humour

the80sweregreat · 15/11/2020 12:33

My friends daughter (19) is gorgeous but she is often going on about Botox or lip fillers or boob jobs etc. her mum despairs at her. It's all pressure on them ? Sad really.

Maireas · 15/11/2020 12:35

Also, I think last year Johannes got on really well with Catherine Tyldesley who was so sweet, funny and kind. (not that Caroline isn't, but she's just different). Maybe that helped him come out of his shell a bit. He gave her a lovely tribute about how kind and thoughtful she was. Maybe a different personality and he has a different response.

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 15/11/2020 12:37

Hopefully she has a big snazzy party dance next week. (If in) She can have fun and have it large and show her sense of humour.

That is what I am missing.

I was grateful for the lack of plugging last night Wink

the80sweregreat · 15/11/2020 12:38

Maybe they are all a bit stressed out this year? It feels a bit flat because of the social distancing and people going off and maybe the vibe isn't right?

CaveMum · 15/11/2020 12:40

@SchadenfreudePersonified I think I posted a video of Shirley dancing a Rumba with an overweight middle aged man (who was ectually an ex-champion himself!). Was it that video?

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 15/11/2020 12:40

I despair about Botox and fillers and ‘work’ on anyone under 40.

I hate the generic sex doll look that some aspire to.

And what happens later in life? They are going to look like melted altar candles.

It is so sad.

GaraMedouar · 15/11/2020 12:41

BigBadVoodooHat has said what I can’t not remember whenever I see Anton. I was always surprised he wasn’t given the boot after calling Laila a racist word, and making the limp apology that it was just banter. He went down in my estimation from then.

CaveMum · 15/11/2020 12:46

This is the Shirley video I’m thinking of, the man is Michael Chapman who was a top level competitor in the early/mid-90s

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/11/2020 12:53

I know the cast and crew are doing their best as an audience, but you do miss those "swells" of spontaneous applause. I wonder if it feels like you're working really hard and not getting as much back?(Although it is balanced out by the lack of clapping along to the music which is a definite improvement!)

I don't dislike Caroline, but I feel like despite what she says, she isn't letting herself get fully swept along by Strictly.

I know her strength is acting and lovely balletic movement, but I think she needs a dance that is so fast and busy she can't act her way through it, just smiles and enjoys it. Although I wonder if she'd push back against that, because she'd feel she wasn't doing it well? I also don't think wardrobe are making her look good — the strong waist and calf length skirt aren't that flattering.

SoupDragon · 15/11/2020 12:57

What is so beautiful about Caroline's foot? Shirley was in raptures about it. I spent a long time after pointing my own foot and looking at it😂

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 15/11/2020 13:00

That, cavemum, is what dancing should be. You need to feel something.

I am not sure why but I am sat here crying.

It was beautiful to me. Just beautiful.

the80sweregreat · 15/11/2020 13:01

Shirley loves feet doesn't she? 😃
She mentions them at every opportunity she gets , more than the others seem-to anyway.
She wouldn't like my feet.
