She’s definitely not one for the sisterhood, that’s for sure.

cordelia16 · 09/11/2020 16:59

I've watched Ranvir and Gio's foxtrot about 20 times since Saturday night, but from my Sky box recording. Guess I should watch it on Youtube to get her numbers up (but I love the pre- and post- bits too much).Smile

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/11/2020 17:03

Cheers all!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/11/2020 17:16

@tenlittlecygnets

Jason was robbed! I thought he was much better in the dance off.

Do you think the Beeb has a vested interest in keeping Nicola in the show?!

I did too - he really upped his game.

Nicola will stay in I think as long as they possibly can keep her because she is half of the first same-sex couple. Many a better dancer will get thrown to the wolves.

Too right she isn’t Grin

Completely agree about Jason, he danced much better the second time round and clearly took the judges comments on board. It’s a shame those two had to go out on such a rubbish routine.... I think Jason would have been an improver given time, whereas Nicola I’m not so sure about.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/11/2020 17:29

@Blobby10

Hello! New here - I've managed to watch all the shows so far this series but find that I really miss the original format where for the first 4 weeks, they alternated either a ballroom or latin and all started with the more straightforward dances such as waltz and cha-cha. I know I've missed a few series (got fed up with the guaranteed winners from the start) but since when is it far that a total novice has to cope with a paso in week 1 or 2? That used to be considered a really difficult dance.
I'd give my eye teeth to have the format back.

(Somebody's eye teeth anyway - possibly mean Shirley's - LEAVE CLARA ALONE, SHIRL!)

ScienceSensibility · 09/11/2020 18:20

I so agree about the original format. It was fairer for judging the couples against one another, plus we saw more actual DANCING instead of all the flim flam of themes, mad costumes and the production department showing off their new bit of CGI kit.

It also enabled the viewers to learn more about the technical aspects of each dance, and look out for them in each performance.
The bullshit ‘couples choice’ is like a show dance, which would normally be an honour given to finalists.
Now it acts as a free pass early on and adds to the inconsistent marking, thereby allowing the judges to favour whomever the BBC has selected this year.
This year it’s Nicola, to keep the ‘same sex’ narrative going as long as possible, to make them look woke and inclusive. The fact that she can barely dance seems to be unimportant to them. The lovely smile shouldn’t keep her in if she can’t dance.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 09/11/2020 18:32

Still on subject of Shirl, I do think she keeps drawing comparisons between herself and CQ - “you’re a woman of my age, let’s show them what we’re made of etc” not because she supports her; because she wants people to notice how much slimmer/fitter/better worked on she is. She wants people to make the unkind comparison without actually saying the words herself.

Bet she was one of those mean girls at school who stood next to the chubbiest, shyest member of the class going ooh you’re so pretty and thin and I’m so fat and not meaning a word of it Hmm

In fact I think ‘Shirl’ should be rhyming slang for mean girl.

Maireas · 09/11/2020 18:43

Is Jason the nicest guy ever? Just trying to be a decent man and a good father. He did well, I think and was a bit unlucky.
I also like the fact he's not pawing Luba on the sofa.

Absolutely Maireas
stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 09/11/2020 18:51

He was unlucky. In that he was up against Nic and KatME.

I think Nicola comes across lovely, but I really do think she will stay in for other things than dancing. How long must it be side by side stuff? Are they afraid that two lady gardens touching in hold will have pearls clutched or something?

I celebrate strictly in all of its forms. I do not care for fanfare over something which should be accepted without fanfare.

Just do the dances. Please.

unique1986 · 09/11/2020 18:52

I'm another that hates couples choice.
At a push it could be thrown in in the semifinals.
But on the 1st 2nd and 3rd weeks etc is just ridiculous.
Plus its so overrated.
I disliked most the themes and dances and songs on Saturday.
I dont expect to love all the dances but come on 80% decent music and dances would be better than the other way round.
At least a few years ago even if you didnt like various couples and thought a few of the celebs were kinda rubbish at least it was fairly entertaining music and themes that matched.
You know a well rounded great 2 hour show.
Now it's like finding 2 gems in a sea of rubbish.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/11/2020 18:57

I think with a shorter series, people are actually going to be a bit more fussed about who is good and who isn't. We'd usually be up to week 7 or so by now, which is when voting gets a bit more serious. What we've ended up with is the same sort of time/number pressure but with a much earlier week number.

So if Nic went out now, it would usually be "you got to do movie week, you got to do Hallowe'en, dance to your auntie's favourite song, and show everybody how well a same-sex couple can dance", this time it's "it's only week three, we need to keep this concept going"!!!!

I disagree with those wanting to go back to the old format with just a couple of dances. I completely understand and agree with all the points about it being fairer and being able to compare the dancers more easily. However - I would find it really boring watching a whole programme with just a couple of different dances. As it is I’m often bored when it’s a waltz or foxtrot but it’s only a few minutes and then there’s usually something more interesting like a jive or Charleston to watch. I would be bored stiff with 2 hours of waltzes and cha chas! I know nothing about dancing and just watch it to be entertained and for me that’s variety of dances.

Maireas · 09/11/2020 19:01

Sheldon B'Stard very true, it's just all a bit gal pals side by side in trousers. Very chaste. Like the dances at my convent school (hold hands girls but keep apart).

AnneShirleysNewDress · 09/11/2020 19:02

@Maireas I was just saying the same. He came over really well.

unique1986 · 09/11/2020 19:03

I wanted want this short a series ever again.
I like the face it's an epic long run. Get to know the couples more that way too. And more likely have more better dances than duds.
This year seems like there wont be many classic performances rather than just a small amount.

unique1986 · 09/11/2020 19:03

unique1986 · 09/11/2020 19:05

I could be wrong but I get the impression Nicola doesnt want to get too close to Katya.
She said shes not worried about the strictly curse in interviews and is more than happy in her relationship. So no idea why she seems so guarded and self conscious.

Maireas · 09/11/2020 19:05

😉 I am still laughing at your naughty Motsi remark! ☺

Maireas · 09/11/2020 19:09

unique1986 I think they're just trying to dial down the sexiness. In a tv show of legs wrapped around partners and gussets on show, they're dancing like Amish women after the barn raising.

SheldonBstard · 09/11/2020 19:09

I was bad. And own it.

(Sorry/not sorry!)
