Danish crime drama. Maybe one for you @stumblein

Rolf Larsen a respected detective on the police force has his life brutally upended when his baby daughter goes missing :(

There are various reasons why Julita might not have been around, including the fear-the-worst scenario at the hands of the evil nuns, but that doesn't explain granny.
I just assumed granny had died of natural causes. Julita could just have moved somewhere more convenient or it could be more sinister.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2020 12:33

@Blondeshavemorefun

Th I said before. Amazed that dead mum granny didn’t want her to have the baby

And to help her

As be last link to dead son

She was a snob and thought Julita was beneath them. She didn't want to be connected with her in any way.
Wemayhavemetbefore · 14/11/2020 12:38

Coincidence though if granny died of natural causes five years ago at the same time that Julita disappeared (if she did disappear).
Someone must still be around now to have sold the house I suppose - unless it was rented and the landlord was just slow to get on with it. (I admit I'm getting slightly side-tracked here.)

Taking DNA from the 5 year old was presumably a criminal offence? I suspect the detective may not be on the case any more in the first episode tonight!

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2020 12:44

But I don't think we know much about the intervening 5 years do we. At the moment all we know is what she did after she escaped from Mandorla when she is trying to get her baby back. I admit, though, that flitting backwards and forwards in time confuses me and I probably shouldn't try to knit and read subtitles at the same time.

stumbledin · 14/11/2020 15:47

The hospital was actually concerned Julita would loose the baby because of ??? medical condition and was told the nuns would provide nursing care to help her continue to full term.

That is partly why she was a bit slow on picking up on what was really going on.

But it may be that the nurse who slipped her the card was a sort of recruiting agent for the baby traffickers.

Does it finish tonight?

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2020 15:49

I think it does. I hope Julita finds her baby. Even if the red haired child in the foyer did turn out to be Rolf's it would be difficult tearing her away from the family she knows, probably the same with Minna. Maybe it ends with this ethical kind of dilemma.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2020 16:06

Yes last two tonight

I may not watch till tom as worked last 4 nights so early to bed for me tonight

I asked about it ending but only because I saw a trailor for a new thriller (from Iceland?) the other evening!

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2020 19:18

Oh fab. May take its place next sat ?

Ooh, it's about to start...
I noticed that Rolf's ex-wife was counting on her fingers (suggesting pregnancy) while Rolf was watching her through the window from his car.

What I am afraid for Rolf is that he turns out not to be the red-haired girl's father but his ex-wife is her mother who was unfaithful. Let's see...

mizu · 14/11/2020 21:00

Here we go Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2020 21:19

Well, we knew they were a dodgy pair!

pinpinbin · 14/11/2020 22:04

so Julita thought Rolf's baby was her baby! so what happened to her baby?

FlyingFlamingo · 14/11/2020 22:13

He’s going to let her keep her isn’t he? After watching what happened with poor Minna? Sad

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2020 22:16

mizu · 14/11/2020 22:18

Agree. He's going to leave her with Julita.

pinpinbin · 14/11/2020 22:22

Heartbreaking. Poor Rolf and the mum.

pinpinbin · 14/11/2020 22:23

And poor Julita

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2020 22:25

Julita's baby died, something to do with her brain, nobody's fault. Rolf saw it wasn't a very happy outcome for anybody when minna was found so he left his daughter with Julita. Sad but the best thing for the child.

Wingedharpy · 14/11/2020 23:08

Really, really enjoyed it but, oh so sad.
I sobbed at the egg!😥😥

vjg13 · 14/11/2020 23:13

Wouldn't the Police have a duty to report finding their daughter to his wife though! It may be his decision to leave her but he was going to prison.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 14/11/2020 23:15

What a frustrating ending. I think Rolf should have told his wife and Julita the truth. His wife deserved to know that her daughter was not dead. Even if he and his wife agreed that their daughter stayed with Julita the child deserved to know who her biological parents were and where she comes from and that she has more family, especially if something were ever to happen to Julita.

I liked this series but it had some huge holes in the storyline like taking a baby outside in a ferry in a storm. I would have thought Julita would discover at some point that she wasn't the child's mother. Also Charlotte Rampling was way too old to be a detective, she would have been long retired from any police force by now.

Well done to the poster who identified Julita being on the ferry when Rolf's baby disappeared right back at start of the series.

Wingedharpy · 15/11/2020 02:09

I'm prepared to be disembowelled for this, but, I thought the ending was just right.

No-one has any hard evidence that it was his child, but we all "know."
He dropped the lolly stick in the river.

Watching Minna made the scales fall from his eyes.
