Danish crime drama. Maybe one for you @stumblein

Rolf Larsen a respected detective on the police force has his life brutally upended when his baby daughter goes missing :(

I thought she was going to tell him she was pregnant
So Julita baby was taken 5 years ago- same time as Rolfs baby ?

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/11/2020 13:07

I found this thread when I had watched all but the last episode. I hadn't clicked that the Polish girl had had her baby 5 years ago but I see that now
and it makes more sense. Thank you.

I think Rolf's wife had been to Canada for work. Could that be relevant (or did I even remember correctly)? I think the forensic man and his wife are dodgy too or what is the point of them, unless they are a massive red herring.

Cannothtinkofaname · 09/11/2020 13:38

Can you remind me who Julita is please? is she Meena's mother?

GroundAlmonds · 09/11/2020 13:41

Julita is the young pregnant woman who went to stay in the convent for rest after her fiancé’s death and high blood pressure.

stumbledin · 09/11/2020 20:34

@FlyingFlamingo

Thanks - I dont have the energy of time to go back through and see where I missed this.

Did realise after I posted that I had got the babies mixed up, but have no memory of any clues that Julita's timeline was 5 years early.

I do get distracted easily looking at buildings and scenery and ... nodding off!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/11/2020 20:47

I think we found out about the 5yrs when she goes back to her nan/aunt

Uncovers a car and says about 5yrs

Or something Iike that

But then she went back and got the car then went to look for her baby so that was 5 years ago. When Rolf went to the house and was told by the new owner the house has been empty for years was 5 years later. I think the scenes were intercut so very confusing. Also, at the convent, she called the Police. You see Rolf and Co turn up but then she opens the door to a different (useless) pair of cops. I didn't work it out until I read this thread but now it makes more sense.
Blondeshavemorefun · 09/11/2020 22:04

I’m puzzled @CaptainMyCaptain 😂

So all babies toddlers ivf was 5yrs ago

When Rolf went to see head nun, he mentioned them being accused of stealing Julita's baby and either he or she (can't recall), said it was 5 years ago......then cut to Julita opening office door, and the realisation this was all in the past.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/11/2020 06:50

Minna, Rolf's baby disappearing, Julita's baby and the twins all happened 5 years ago. The baby the gay couple had us 'now'.

The ferry scenes were rubbish! I was shocked at how weak and unlikely the plot was. This weekend's episodes were really good though.

The ferry scenes really were rubbish, no one would leave their baby in a pram on deck in a storm while they went to be sick. FFS nobody would even take their baby on to a ferry in pursuit of criminals. It's the only weak spot in the series and I'm sure they could have thought of a better way of introducing that particular plot line.
pinpinbin · 14/11/2020 03:05

really enjoying this but 2 massive plot holes for me. Nobody, never mind a loving father, would even take a pram out onto the deck of a rolling ferry in the middle of the night in a huge storm, never mind park it and leave it there! You'd be sick on the floor inside or leave the pram outside the toilet door! And why would Julita ever have gone to the bitch nuns in the first place? She wanted the baby and she would just have continued living perfectly happily with her Gran, probably supported financially by her dead fiances parents who clearly weren't short of money. Why did she go and live at the evil nun birth place?!?

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2020 07:31

Julia's nan didn't seem quite 'all there' to me, perhaps Julita felt she needed more support than she could give and her fiancé's parents wanted nothing to do with her. Nan was clearly suggesting she give the baby away through that window, though, so you'd think she'd be aware this is what might happen.

Wemayhavemetbefore · 14/11/2020 10:24

Ah, I thought mil did want to stay close to Julita and the grandchild (at the funeral scene she seemed to want a reconciliation), but Julita couldn't forgive her for having tried to get her to terminate the pregnancy. Also was the motorbike accident indirectly mil's fault - I can't remember exactly, but boyfriend was rushing to Julita because he thought something was up? In other words if it hadn't been for mil, boyfriend wouldn't have been killed so Julita might have blamed her for that.
Some excellent theories on this thread! I thought the ex-wife just wanted to tell him she was marrying again. Can anyone remember what date Julita gave birth - a month afterwards she's in the convent, so how does that fit in with the date that daughter was taken from the ferry ? (if indeed she was - all theories still possible at this stage1)

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2020 10:41

I think I missed the nuances at the funeral so you could be right there. The fiance was with his dad doing up the flat when he realised his mum (and possibly Julia's nan) were combining to coerce her into a termination so he rushed back to prevent it. In a way, by dying, he did stop it.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2020 10:41

Julita, predictive text prefers Julia.

Wemayhavemetbefore · 14/11/2020 10:48

"I think I missed the nuances at the funeral so you could be right there."

Tbf, I read a lot into the 30 seconds of footage! But Julita is an excellent actress, so I think conveyed quite a lot as well. I think she went to the convent because she was worried about things going wrong with pre-eclampsia, and wanted to be in a safe place with quick access to medical treatment. In real life once the hospital had identified the threat would she have been asked to come back for weekly appointments - I'm not sure what the protocol is?

It was fairly obvious from the interview with the top nun that they were keen on adoption - and yes she should have left with granny immediately, once she'd seen Irinka accusing them of taking the twins.

AnyFucker · 14/11/2020 10:51

.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2020 10:58

She went to nuns as a nurse at hospital said they help

Wonder if nurse gets a back hand or

Halsall · 14/11/2020 11:55

Yes, the granny wanted her to get the baby adopted. Dead boyfriend's mother was a scheming nutcase who thought Julita was too common for her darling boy and had wanted her to have a termination, so his parents weren't likely to be a reliable source of support once the baby was born.

I can sort of see why, in her half-crazed bereaved state, Julita grabbed at what might have seemed like a possible alternative method of doing it her own way when she was given the tip-off about Mandorla, but alarm-bells should have started ringing pretty quickly, I feel. The Mother Superior is a right piece of work, clearly.

I'm looking forward to the reveal tonight, although tbh I can't really see a happy resolution for the detective and his ex, I'm afraid 😟

Wemayhavemetbefore · 14/11/2020 12:17

No nor I Halsall - though I think on the upside the detective has potential for another series, so nothing too bad can happen to him I hope!
Also have high hopes for the young woman detective and the young man who sits at the computer running dna tests. (Very strange how I can't remember any of their names, apart from Julita, Claire and Minna - oh and gorgeous little baby Leo of course)

Wemayhavemetbefore · 14/11/2020 12:20

The fact that the house has been empty for five years is interesting. There are various reasons why Julita might not have been around, including the fear-the-worst scenario at the hands of the evil nuns, but that doesn't explain granny.

To be fair, these nuns (as opposed to the Mandorla ones) may be quite innocent - as far as they're concerned the babies have been freely given up for adoption.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2020 12:28

Th I said before. Amazed that dead mum granny didn’t want her to have the baby

And to help her

As be last link to dead son
