What’s next in the tennis world - Queens and Wimbledon? Confused this has been a very strange year!

Fizzywinegum · 11/10/2020 17:27

Yes sorry welcome Candace and any others - please stick around for tennis and non tennis ramblings Smile

Raahh · 11/10/2020 17:28

Paris indoors is still meant to be going ahead.
I'm not sure about Melbourne.
The french Open will happen again in theory before Queen's /Wimbledon.

Which seems bonkers.

Just in time my telly is about to turn itself off Au Revoir

Mischance · 11/10/2020 17:29

Big surprise for me - I thought Novak would put up more of a fight. He was frankly outclassed today.

PrivateSpidey · 11/10/2020 17:30

There are still a few ATP tournaments this year. Incl the WTFs! I don't know if they're being shown on Amazon though, I just assumed they would be...

There's only one women's tournament left though, in Ostrava - that's quite soon I think.

It has been very weird.
Is anyone showing Russia next week?
Paris then ATP finals pretty much I think.......I've just had a look and those are supposed to be going ahead at the moment.

Raahh · 11/10/2020 17:31

Of course- there might be the tour finals in London- I'm not sure they should go ahead- for a nimber of reasons. Fairness ( players haven't had the chance to play many tournament) and it's an indoor venue. Will players want to be there?

PrivateSpidey · 11/10/2020 17:31

Shock
That does seem bonkers!

X post

Yes- really, it's mainly the Asian swing affected.

Itself nearly Rafa's wedding anniversary .I just remember how they went on about that consta5 in Shanghai, iirc.

Raahh · 11/10/2020 17:37

So- Rafa stands a chance of going ahead of Roger in the slam count. Since Fed's best ( and probably last ) chance, must be Wimbledon.

Djok is pretty dominant in Melbourne. But I would love Rafa to win it again. Then he will have the slams twice.

EggsFried · 11/10/2020 17:41

So glad Rafa pulled it off! He's so lovely in the speeches too.

Glad I'm not the only one who found it stressful to watch- I had to go upstairs to escape for a bit when Djokovic was roaring after breaking back Blush

PrivateSpidey · 11/10/2020 17:57

Eggs yes it was a bit nerve wracking that bit!

OMG my SIL dropped by in the middle of the final set and then Djok went ahead and I was having kittens!

VAMOS Rafa the king!!

Candacewasalwaysright · 11/10/2020 18:06

Thanks for the welcome! I love watching the tennis, even though I am useless at playing it.

Rafa is definitely my favourite male player. I'm also quite a fan of Diego given how short he is in relation to the other players. I have noted some of the next gen players talking about how they are the future but they seem to have difficulty in translating the talk over 5 sets in action.

The women's game seems so up and down at the moment, it's difficult to choose. I am pleased to see that Petra seems to be getting it back together after the attack though and, despite her shrieking, that Vica has got through the custody issues and is back on tour.

kazzaD66 · 11/10/2020 19:00

Managed to see the last game before Skyping my dad, so recorded and watched back everything after just now.

Glad Rafa won in straight sets.
Fabrice scrubbed up well for the on court interview but then I noticed he'd ditched his tie for his chat with John and Petch. Clearly, he didn't think they were worth the effort Grin
Hadn't realised that Petch wasn't in Paris. I thought it was just John that was here but clearly not!

Isn't Andy playing a couple of indoor tournaments in Europe soon? Can't remember where though. Belgium maybe Hmm

According to his instagram, Stan is in St Petersburg.

Don't know if any of those tournaments are on Prime?

Starksforthewin · 11/10/2020 19:24

Well, that was tremendous.

I’m delighted that Rafa dominated Djokovic in such an emphatic fashion, and played him off the court.
Seemed like Djokovic only tactic was to dropshot every other point. Pah! Didn’t work out too well for him.

Wonderful message from Roger on social media welcoming Rafa to the 20 club. I love their friendship, and also that Djokovic is not included in their gang! 😀

Rafa could win RG for another ten years playing like that.

JaneJeffer · 11/10/2020 19:56

Did Rafa get to bite the trophy??

Fizzywinegum · 11/10/2020 20:13

No Jane because he had his mask on - he just sort of nuzzled it Grin

JaneJeffer · 11/10/2020 21:42

Oh look! I was being a bit superstitious about it! I'm relieved Grin

Dh rang me before ( ostensibly to check on dd2) but he asked me if i was happy. Took me a while to work out what he was talking about.Grin

magimedi · 11/10/2020 22:19

Off you fock, Cock!

Made my day.

Haven't been around (thanks for asking, Fizzy) - been through hell & back again with DH & all the problems - UTI, delerium, twice in & out of rehab & now back in hospital but today has been good & he seems a lot better. Living by the hour atm - now lost 18lbs!! Would prefer to have kept the lard & have DH OK.

Hi magi xposted with you. You're having a horrible time. Hope your DH is on the mend now. Look after yourself too! Things could be worse, Djok could have won! x

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2020 22:38

Sending very best wishes to you and your DH magimedi Flowers Sorry you've been having such a tough time, but I can see the tennis today cheered you up Grin
