Has anyone else watched this since it dropped on the 23rd? I saw the first hour or so last night and that was brilliant. I love anything to do with Sherlock Holmes. Enola is his younger sister. I can see sequels coming after this one.

I just watched and absolutely LOVED it. The girl who played the lead was a revelation IMO.

I highly recommend it. I really hope it turns into a series.BrewSmile

I wasn't sure if it was a children's film or not?

GinAtMerlottes · 25/09/2020 23:23

Is it suitable for a 9 year old to watch with us?

Vargas · 25/09/2020 23:24

It's a 12 and very good.

Vargas · 25/09/2020 23:24

Depends on your 9 year old, there’s a bit of violence.

MissConductUS · 25/09/2020 23:25

@GinAtMerlottes

Is it suitable for a 9 year old to watch with us?
Nothing in the first half would give me any concern, so I suspect the whole thing would be fine.

We watched the trailer, it looks epic! It's the girl from Stranger things isn't it?

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 25/09/2020 23:25

The lead role is played by the same person who plays eleven in stranger things - When I heard her accent in Enola Holmes I googled and was shocked to find out that she's actually British. She's a terrific actor.

Scbchl · 25/09/2020 23:28

Just finished watching it with my son, loved it.

Missanneshirley · 25/09/2020 23:30

Watched it tonight with DDs 9 and 12, we all loved it! Rare to find something we all enjoy together that isn't too young for the wannabe teen or too much for the younger one, but still holds my attention too.

Mutunus · 26/09/2020 01:08

Meh. Got bored with it and switched over halfway through I'm afraid.
I really disliked Mycrofts character (as you were meant to I suppose), and much preferred how he was portrayed in Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock. Enola was good though, and I enjoyed the way she broke the fourth wall.

Mooserp · 26/09/2020 10:29

Seemed like the sort of family film they'd have on on Christmas day.

LoseLooseLucy · 26/09/2020 11:40

DD (16) and I watched it last night, we thought it was quite good, seemed a little long though.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 26/09/2020 11:44

It's based on a set of books by Nancy springer, so definitely scope for sequels.

jdoejnr1 · 26/09/2020 12:02

Daughter 10 loved it it (but she loves anything where the girls do the ass kicking!) And my son 12 loved it because he has a crush in the lead actress (blushes all round when we found out) and the adults loved it because the story line is genuinely entertaining. It is a strong 'feminist' film without being overpowering. Should be made into a series.

pinkbalconyrailing · 26/09/2020 20:43

watching with my teens.
what a great story and great acting from the young'uns.

pinkbalconyrailing · 26/09/2020 20:44

my boys really like eleven
proper crush there

Pumpertrumper · 26/09/2020 20:56

I loved it.

I thought the romantic storyline fell totally flat at the end though. I liked that she was a strong female character and loved the equality of them saving each other but I feel like it’s still ok to have a ‘happily ever after’ in romance.

It’s such an issue with my generation (mid 20’s) that no one really wants to commit to relationships and those who do seem to either want to be saved by a Disney price or tied up like 50 shades.

I would love to see a good, positive, healthy ‘I really like you’ ‘I really like you too’ - let’s give it a go

Pumpertrumper · 26/09/2020 20:59

I wouldn’t have had an issue had they not made the romantic storyline SUCH a theme through the film, to then let it fall flat. Could have filled that time with more cool Victorian lady combat fighting or HBC blowing stuff up!!!

Bunkumum · 26/09/2020 21:00

Very much a family/children’s film I watched it alone and enjoyed it though. It was very tame.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 26/09/2020 21:00

We’ve just finished it and we loved it. It was clever, funny and kept us guessing. The strong female roles made DD very happy!

Bunkumum · 26/09/2020 21:01

And I loved the girl power. One to watch with my daughter when she’s older. Mrs Holmes spoke some very wise words.

motherofdxughters · 26/09/2020 21:02

I loved it too. Millie Bobby Brown is brilliant (as is the whole cast).
