Oh no Raahh your poor DD - and you Flowers

magi that's good news about your DH.

I didn't see any of yesterday's finals. I tuned in for the women's and they were just starting the trophy ceremony! I saw they included the girls who were playing tennis across the rooftops during lockdown - a nice touch. But that was all I saw of Rome yesterday sadly.

Gulbis plays Chickenato in RG "qualies" today - quite a match up. The qualifying is on Eurosport, so hopefully they show it...

Raahh · 22/09/2020 09:24

That's good news, magi Flowers.
Hopefully you can see your dh soon. This covid shit is really not funny anymore.

I am really hoping the hospitals will stay open. it can't go back to how it was.

Unfortunately for dd2 the clinics are on Tuesdays- and next Tuesday (assuming the Dr is well, and can fit her in), it is her 10th birthday.
So that will be nice . Grin.

Raahh · 22/09/2020 09:29

Private I saw the Gulbis/Chickenato match up- and thought of you Grin. That could be a good match - although I don't think Chicken is quite the player he was 2 years ago. Gulbis always manages to surprise.

I am looking forward to RG- but increasingly nervous about Rafa, and really don't want Djok getting anywhere near the trophy. I was also heartily sick of how much they were singing his praises. I don't think I've heard it so much before, it was odd. Hmm.

PrivateSpidey · 22/09/2020 09:34

I hope your DD gets seen soon Raahh.

Yes I didn't see any of Djok's matches in Rome, so I didn't hear the love-in, fortunately Hmm it does seem odd.

Gulbis v Chicken is on right now, it's just early in the first set. Lovely and sunny in Paris.

JaneJeffer · 22/09/2020 09:44

I've just been reading that scientists in Bristol may have found a way to treat Covid with antivirals. Let's hope it works.

Come on Ernests. This could be your year!!

magimedi · 22/09/2020 12:16

Have you got a link to that, Jane?

JaneJeffer · 22/09/2020 13:07

Here you go magi

Good to hear that your DH is on the mend magi - hope he continues to improve

Also hope that your DD gets seen soon Raahh

Every time there’s a change in the rules I start to feel anxious and grumpy - I try not to let it bother me but can feel it creeping over me Sad.

I’ve just got used to going into the office so don’t know if I’m WFH from now. DS1 is currently working from home and DS2 is about to start college online. If DH has to WFH as well the internet won’t work (especially if I want to watch tennis!)

Anyway just been for an outdoor swim before the weather turns (and while I can still do things!)

Hope everyone else is Ok - Jane hope you’re also recovering - I forgot to include you in my earlier medical round up Grin

Fingers crossed for a good RG - hopefully Djok will do something really bad and get banned from tennis - that would cheer me up. Grin

PrivateSpidey · 22/09/2020 18:14

The Ernests v Chickenato match was really enjoyable - apart from the result that is, as I wanted Ernie to win.

They are both kind of unusual players aren't they - there were loads of over-elaborate rallies, drop shots, lobs etc, it was great. Really tough draw for Ernie though. He had the trainer on as well so he maybe wasn't at his best but he played well. First time he's not made the main draw at RG since 2007 apparently (what do you think of my statistical knowledge?! Grin)

And of course the commentators were going on about the roof on Chatrier Hmm - what it's made of, how quickly it closes etc. It's one hectare in area apparently Confused that means absolutely nothing to me but they seemed very enthusiastic about it all Grin

AC would be in his element describing the roof wouldn't he Grin - possibly even more exciting than new seats!!

Fizzy I hope you get everything sorted work wise etc. I'm thinking of getting super fast broadband or whatever it's called but it costs quite a bit extra and I don't know if I can justify it mainly so I can watch tennis without interruption

Raahh · 22/09/2020 19:09

Private Oh blimey, yes, roof chat. Grin

I am not happy about the roof. I'm sure Mac will be beside himself. It's what he has wanted for years. Hmm.

PrivateSpidey · 22/09/2020 19:30

Honestly, the roof facts were so boring and that was only the first time I'd heard it! How many times do you think it'll be mentioned during the main tournament? I'm sure we'll soon all know all the details off by heart Grin

The other thing was - they weren't even playing on or anywhere near Chatrier! Hmm Grin

Raahh · 22/09/2020 20:07

GrinGrin

I tell you something though- if Rafa loses in the first round, because of the roof, I will be personally going over there to dismantle itGrin.

Raahh · 22/09/2020 20:10

I just watched Boris.

I have no idea what he was talking about. He kept clenching his fists, but that was about it.

They delayed Bake Off for it too!

Raahh · 22/09/2020 20:15

And I now realise I have to qualify that with - I don't mean our Boris, I mean the other Boris. Grin.

JaneJeffer · 22/09/2020 21:33

Grin

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 22/09/2020 21:54

Grin Raahh that would be funny!

I also watched Boris and his weird hands and then Bake Off - can’t believe they delayed it for Boris and then they confused matters by having Matt Lucas pretending to be Boris! I do like GBBO off - the cake busts were a bit weird though Hmm

magimedi · 22/09/2020 22:01

Althought this was recorded pre covid it still stands for me & I hum it daily!!

JaneJeffer · 22/09/2020 22:20

Love it magi Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 23/09/2020 09:43

Magi Grin

I did like the Matt Lucas bit at the beginning of Bake Off. It made more sense than the previous announcement, anyway.

It's raining today, and a lot colder. I hope it will not be the same in RG- roof or not!

Raahh · 23/09/2020 11:38

I've been catching up on a few scores- and see that Medvedev was beaten by Humbert last night. i saw the beginning, but missed the end.

Benoit has retired in his match against Casper. He is doing a lot of that lately.

PrivateSpidey · 23/09/2020 11:55

That's strange about Medvedev, he doesn't seem to do that well on clay considering how good he is generally. I wonder how he'll get on at RG?

I see Dan Evans is playing Tsitsipas in Hamburg today but I probably won't get to watch unless it's on later.

It's Delpo's birthday today. And it's also the anniversary of the invention of Ceefax Grin (1974) Cake

Fizzywinegum · 23/09/2020 12:06

Yay ceefax! That’s how I used to get my tennis scores - it was really annoying if you’d just missed the tennis news and then had to wait another 24 pages Grin

Happy birthday Delpo - hope he’s recovering well from his surgeries Sad

Raahh · 23/09/2020 12:16

Happy birthday Delpo! Cake

And ceefaxGrin.
