On so many levels...

OP posts:
Rachmumoftwo · 05/10/2007 22:11

I enjoyed it, but wasn't expecting historical accuracy, just a entertaining romp!

eggontoast · 05/10/2007 22:18

I quite liked it. I always like historical things, just for the costumes and beautiful women ( i dont know if they would have really looked like that though!!) I dont know anything about history so I guess it does not matter too much , although I would be happier if I could excuse my watching with learning.... oh well

SpookyBearistheSpookyBear · 05/10/2007 22:30

I liked it.

Bunch of hotties in period costume entertain me while I drink wine.

What's not to like?

ahundredtimes · 05/10/2007 22:31

I'm with LittleBella. I thought it was shit too. He was badly cast I thought, and everyone so clean and all that cod-Shakespeare talk. They should have worked out a better way of doing this by now.

Charles II was good actually. That was better.

Heathcliffscathy · 05/10/2007 22:32

shit in the sense of history 101....[american accent] the tuuudooors, well henry, wait until you meet those boleyn girls arse

but GREAT in terms of jonathan 'hugo boss' rhys meyers shagging sundry tottie from behind weyhey!

fine fodder for a friday night i say

MentalSquirrel · 05/10/2007 22:34

Unbelievably shit. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is an appalling actor.

LittleBella · 05/10/2007 22:37

So much of it irritates me.

For a start, him not being ginger. I know, I'm being petty, but it's so well known that he was a redhead, is it really impossible to find one good looking redhaired actor in Britain who could do that part?

And her nipples.

And he's a wierdie looking bloke from Gormenghast isn't he?

OP posts:
eggontoast · 05/10/2007 22:38

But at least they were all sexy ! (im so shallow, but after a long days work all I want is to watch the pretty costumes/people (does anyone think I need help?!?)

MyEye · 05/10/2007 22:42

I had ishoos with JRM (have always loathed him since enduring Match Point). He's so dead behind the eyes: massive turnoff.

His Irish accent didn't help here either.

SpookyBearistheSpookyBear · 05/10/2007 22:44

They could have got that redheaded bloke from The Forsyte Saga. Damian whatsit? Damon?

Acting was very self-conscious.

But I'll be watching next week none the less.

(I did think that about the nipples too!!)

Gobbledispook · 05/10/2007 22:46

OH well, I thought it was good but I am easily entertained and watch all manner of shite on the telly

Heathcliffscathy · 05/10/2007 22:46

TERRIBLE NIPPLES... sorry love...

Gobbledispook · 05/10/2007 22:47

Yes, they were most odd

TinyGang · 05/10/2007 22:48

Lol at being irritated by 'her nipples'

Yes, well it wasn't exactly accurate I suppose, but as Spooky said, I can drink wine to it and it was ok for a Friday.

Dd (8)appeard from upstairs just as it started. I said 'this is about the Tudors'. She looked interested as she doing the Tudors at school. After a minute I very quickly realised it was a big no no for her and she was hustled into a confused U turn back to bed.

LittleBella · 05/10/2007 22:50

Yes DS wanted to watch it too

I just told him that it was all wrong and would just confuse him. And anyway, too late.

And who the fuck is Henry VIII's uncle?

OP posts:
LittleBella · 05/10/2007 22:51

And Sam Neill as Wolsey

Wrong, so wrong. That's Terry from Terry and June's job.

OP posts:
TinyGang · 05/10/2007 22:52

I don't recall a murdered uncle either.

Poor old Sean Pertwee (cup o tea and a slice o cake - his dad being old Worzel) didn't have a very big part did he?

choosyfloosy · 05/10/2007 22:54

Couldn't face it after seeing the trailer [echoing bass voice] 'Born to be King'... oh yes, him and his elder brother

eggontoast · 05/10/2007 22:54

I did wonder why the guy playing King was not red head and ugly (I thought Henry viii was dont really know why). I didnt notice the nipples though, only watching on small screen.

PeachesMcScream · 05/10/2007 23:00

Haven't seen it yet, had to go out earlier and DH has kindly taped it for me. Disappointed to hear it's a bit rubbish. Though, eggontoast, Henry was supposed to be very good looking and sporting in his younger days.

LittleBella · 05/10/2007 23:01

Yes but the bloke they've got isn't handsome

Just wierdie-stalker-looking type

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 05/10/2007 23:04

DH is watching this here in NZ and says that it's so shite it's good

eggontoast · 05/10/2007 23:14

I thought the actor was very sexy, but I am often told I have weird taste. I think I thought he was ugly because I have only seen paintings of him when he was older!!! (i often find red heads attractive, and Im told that is weird too. very gingerish.

SpookyBearistheSpookyBear · 05/10/2007 23:14

Exactly right MrsJohnCusack.

Also fortunately for me my knowledge of History is limited, so I count it as educational and don't notice any inconsistencies/inaccuracies.

ahundredtimes · 05/10/2007 23:25

But why was he playing him as a psychopath? I didn't get that. Because when he wasn't dead behind the eyes - agree re Match Point - he was unstable and intense and weird.

why?
