Bugger. I meant to watch that.

niceglasses · 08/10/2007 12:32

Rhys Meyer loves himself too much am afraid. I can't take him seriously as an actor - he just go and be a moggle.

He was okay in Gormanghast(ly) but shite in almost everything else.

Dead behind the eyes is right - no real acting ability that I can see, unless its bonking. All his films include lots of bonking.

Marina · 08/10/2007 12:35

Did you watch it all the way through to check on its inaccuracies bk?

This takes me right back to the JCR and drinking games with The Cleopatras - one short for every nipple [hic]

I always thought that Cardinal Wolsey looked like a potato. Not Sam Neill.

And he wants to see that 300 too
I think Minimus after Rome would have been a bit of a let-down to an enquiring young mind...

JackieNo · 08/10/2007 12:48

That wikipedia link from TheOldestCat also links to This page about the series that has more info on the 'departures from history'.

The Tudors is deffo better than Rome IMO. I never could get into that... And oh, how I tried!

Marina · 08/10/2007 21:23

Two words for you...James Purefoy.
(and two more, Kevin McKidd, but I accept that might be a minority perspective )

Zebedeedoodah · 09/10/2007 09:15

One more word Marina. Toga
(You can keep your codpieces. I'll take Mr Purefoy anyday!)

scampadoodle · 09/10/2007 20:04

Marina, wasn't there a series called The Plantagenets in the 70s? The Tudor era has been so over-worked. This latest one was actually made for American tv. On Front Row on R4 a historian said that the bits about H8 being intellectual were accurate (even as a v young man); the shagging, er, not...

DumbledoresGirl · 25/10/2007 17:21

S*D it, 3 weeks in and I am in a state of high excitement at the prospect of spending an hour with Jonathan Rhys Meyers tomorrow night. I know I shouldn't........

Oh yes, Marina - another vote for Kevin McKidd here. He's so moody as Vorenus...sigh

screamsprout · 26/10/2007 21:11

Do they HAVE to keep translating the most basic Latin and French phrases?!!!

LittleBellaLugosi · 26/10/2007 21:24

i haven@t watched it sncethe first episode< is ti still shit? I just watched the trailer, it looks crappity crap.

The thing is, the story of the Tudors is so outrageous, exciting, shocking etc., that why on earth do you need to piss about with the facts, merge the characters etc.?

The story stands up by itself FGS. It is such a waste of licence payers money, I expect better from the BBC.

screamsprout · 26/10/2007 21:25

They are practically panto characters. Most odd.

BrownSuga · 26/10/2007 21:36

screamsprout · 26/10/2007 21:38

BrownSuga · 26/10/2007 22:01
