Just binge watched this series On Sky today.

Billie Piper is phenomenal.

What's it about? I've never heard of it

Themadcatparade · 27/08/2020 17:11

It’s new on sky atlantic.

It’s about an actress who’s phone gets hacked and has some intimate pictures leaked online... and how much her life unravels after it. It’s all very artsy and funny. She’s brilliant.

Quite a lot of explicit content though I must warn!

I’m just about to watch this. I like the premise and the writer. I’ve always found Billie Piper vastly over-rated as an actress, having seen her both on stage and screen. So I’ll see if I change my mind Grin

BunnyLovesBananas · 28/08/2020 13:52

I've just watched episode 1 and like it so far

Figgygal · 28/08/2020 13:54

I wasn’t too bothered until she was walking down the road and went all cockney then started singing then I switched off all together

She also needs to eat more she looks ill

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/08/2020 17:08

Was searching for a thread - to ask if anyone else is finding it completely un-engaging?

I wanted to like it. Admire Lucy Prebble, have great fondness for Who-era Billie Piper ... but I'm watching this out of a sense of duty. It's not making me happy. I don't care about a single one of the characters. (Though the husband is very pleasant to gaze upon.) And the village looks cute, if creepy.

Is it me???

BunnyLovesBananas · 28/08/2020 17:16

I'm enjoying it apart from the episode that was almost exclusively sex and masterbation

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/08/2020 17:16

Is this how other people felt about I May Destroy You? Like they just couldn't discern the point of it all?

Feminist10101 · 28/08/2020 17:19

I lasted less than 3 episodes. What a load of tosh.

BunnyLovesBananas · 28/08/2020 17:20

Is this how other people felt about I May Destroy You?

No idea what you're talking about

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/08/2020 17:24

That's okay Bunny - I was probably addressing my remark to anyone reading this thread who does know what I'm talking about. Grin

BunnyLovesBananas · 28/08/2020 17:30

Sorry I didn't mean to sound abrupt Perdita just didn't see the link as I've never heard of the other thing

I have since googled it and might watch an episode Grin

Corsicana · 28/08/2020 17:31

No, it’s not you.

How much have you watched?

I’ve watched the whole series now. It IS bingeable and there’s some great things about it. But I agree about not caring about Susie at least. I didn’t care more for her as the series went on. The performance doesn’t help - it’s Billie Piper completely over-acting and doing her sexy little girl thing.

I think the actors playing the best friend/manager & the husband are brilliant and BP is shown up next to them. But both of them are under-served by their plots. All the main parts are underwritten in my view. This is very much The Billie Show.

Corsicana · 28/08/2020 18:24

The opening of my messsge was to @PerditaProvokesEnmity btw!

BunnyLovesBananas · 28/08/2020 18:29

I've watched 7 episodes as had the day off and I'm having a lazy day

Any other recommendations?

I like Katy Keane on BBC but it's nothin like this

And I'm watching Salem Fort which is quite good

Corsicana · 28/08/2020 18:49

Bunny what did you think of the 7 episodes you watched? I agree with you about the masturbation episode by the way.

I loved ‘I May Destroy You’ so would recommend that.

BlackbirdFirst · 28/08/2020 19:05

It's a bit stressful to watch isn't it. It reminds me quite a lot of Better Things.
What is her husbands job? He is fit

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/08/2020 19:09

Any other recommendations?

I have not possessed a TV for decades. My soap of choice is The Archers. Pre-lockdown I probably watched two or three TV series a year via iTunes. Now - streamed TV is my specialist subject.

I May Destroy You - a masterpiece. Has changed television for ever. Very beautiful. Shakespearian level dialogue.

My Brilliant Friend - Seriously, how many time can you say the screen adaptation is an improvement Shock on the novels?

Mad Men - That's right - I hadn't seen Mad Men until about three weeks ago. I am in awe.

Chernobyl - Extraordinary, like a still life come to life. Don't expect naturalism.

Detectorists - If you haven't watched every bit of this - your life has no meaning. Utterly, utterly perfect.

I gave up on WestWorld - just too depressing.

Should probably stop now ...

Corsicana · 28/08/2020 19:21

Yes he is fit. He’s a university professor.

The80sweregreat · 28/08/2020 20:07

It isn't good , but dh has always liked Ms Piper from the time was a pop star and never did understand what she ever saw in Chris Evans , so he thinks it's ' ok' !
The husband is nice ( even better if he lost the beard) and her PA are very good but the Suzie character is so annoying. Only on episode two though.
Her eyebrows are something else.

The80sweregreat · 28/08/2020 20:12

Perdita,
Dectorists is one of my favourite ever programmes too. It's a little gem and Toby Jones is just perfect.
I Agree about your other comments too.

Corsicana · 28/08/2020 20:20

I do think it gets better. But a lot of it is very much set pieces.

Her overacting when interacting with her child (who is dead) really grated.

Corsicana · 28/08/2020 20:20

Unfortunate typo - deaf not dead Blush

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 28/08/2020 20:26

I was completely in love with Toby Jones as an actor - until I watched Jared Harris in Mad Men, and then coincidentally in Chernobyl, where he's even better. It's the detail in their acting ... There's a moment in Detectorists where Lance says good morning to his ex-wife ... Just one of the most astonishing moments in a lifetime of screen viewing.

(My usual screen crushes are more in the Ben Whishaw mould.)

I'm on Ep 2 of Suzie ...

The80sweregreat · 28/08/2020 20:40

Toby Jones is such a natural actor : you actually feel his emotions if that makes sense. His just fab.
