Crikey! So Garbine has gone out in straight sets (to a mother aswell! ) Grin

Jourdain11 · 03/09/2020 17:51

I like Pironkova!

Jourdain11 · 03/09/2020 17:52

She plays an interesting game and she has some good runs - just a shame she has never really had the consistency.

I'm pretty sure she is the same age as me, but bizarrely I'm imagining her as being younger than Muguruza, which is just weird Confused

Raahh · 03/09/2020 17:54

Garbine just seemed to let the match slip away, after having the lead in the first. She got really frustrated, and couldn't get back in the match. That said, Pironkova (who hasn't played for ages), was always well known for being a bit of a giant killer, and beating big names. I don't think Garbine has ever done that well at the US Open though- she made the 4th round once, but has usually lost in the early rounds, since her first appearance.

PrivateSpidey · 03/09/2020 17:56

They were saying she's not even ranked at the mo (think she used a protected ranking). Pretty impressive win.

Just marvelling at Gasquet putting a new grip on his racquet. But he's two sets and a break down.

Raahh · 03/09/2020 17:56

I think Pironkova is 32- it's her birthday soon they said. Garbine is onlt 26 (and seems to have been around ages).

She's an 87 baby like me, then - I think we are pretty much dead on the same age!

Trying to listen to 5 Extra and ALL the kids are fighting, for God's sake... no sense of priority!

Raahh · 03/09/2020 18:08

Jourdain Grin

kids, eh?

Raahh · 03/09/2020 18:10

I'm almost the same age as Aranxta Sanchez- her birthday is 12 days before mine Grin.

Jourdain11 · 03/09/2020 18:11

I think I'll sell them or something 😂 Unfortunately you get no credit for being A Mother outside of the WTA Tour...

That's much better - jealous! Just looked it up and Tsvetana is exactly 1 day older than me!
Raahh · 03/09/2020 18:13
Grin

none at all.

I like tennis birthday facts- Goran Ivanisevic shares a birth date with Pironkova- September 13th.

But a birth year with me. 71

Jourdain11 · 03/09/2020 18:16

My other tennis birth year buddies must include... Maria Sharapova... Ana Ivanovic... Maria Kirilenko...

All retired. Argh, I'm old! I have three fighting children and I'm old!

Raahh · 03/09/2020 18:18

Battle of the Canadians coming up on Armstrong.

Pospisil and Raonic.

I really like Milos, and he made a lot of fans at Fake Cincy.

I used to like Pospisil, when he was playing doubles with Jack Sock, but his involvement with the player council shenanigans with Djok has put me right off him.

Did McEnroe coach him at some point? (Miloš, I mean)
Raahh · 03/09/2020 18:22

Jordain he did- summer of 2016, when he played Queen's/Wimbledon, but I don't think he continued with him after that.

PrivateSpidey · 03/09/2020 18:53

Gasquet news (if anyone's interested Grin): he's won the third set and it's on serve in the fourth.

Allez Richard!

Raahh · 03/09/2020 18:57

I saw a bit of the Gasquet match Private.

Well done to him.

Grin
Fizzywinegum · 03/09/2020 19:13

I’m watching the Gasquet match - oh he’s just lost now!

Raahh · 03/09/2020 19:22

Apparently, Gasquet was one of the players who had been affected by the Paire situation, and was subject to 'extra' measures around the complex. It has to have affected morale, really.

Jourdain11 · 03/09/2020 19:25

Mladenovic was talking very bitterly about it, that they feel like prisoners. Just having to sit in isolation in the hotel room. It does seem a tiny bit excessive.

PrivateSpidey · 03/09/2020 19:27

It was a good effort by Gasquet - he was a break up in the fourth at one point, but then just couldn't keep it going.

I'm staying on Court 11 for Millman v Tiafoe - well you can't actually do that, I don't think - you have to go back to the menu and find the next match from there Confused

Is anyone watching Raonic? I think Dan Evans plays soon as well doesn't he?..

Raahh I presume you're watching Casper Ruud v someone from Finland (sorry I forget who) - David Law called that a "Scandinavian derby" on today's podcast Grin

Fizzywinegum · 03/09/2020 19:32

I know there was the possibility that Gasquet might not be able to play in the Us Open Raahh because of Paire testing positive - I agree it must have all been unsettling

I see that Caspar Ruud has won his first set. Milos won his first set on a tiebreak but then went off the court - I’ve not got the sound on so don’t really know what’s happening Hmm

I definitely warmed to Milos after the fake Cinnci tournament Grin - I think his new hairstyle seems to have made him more free (but his shorts are still too short!)

Raahh · 03/09/2020 19:36

Ahh, Casper Ruud.

He will be big, Private He will.

I'm watching Raonic. In between last minute back to school panics.
