I don’t think they do any psychological assessment at all - or provide much support. The Australian version seems to be much less responsible than the US and UK counterparts. It’s all geared towards car crash telly.

I feel desperately sorry for Jo. It doesn’t matter how brash and out there she is, she deserves some respect. Sean’s an arsehole, he’s sulking because he didn’t get the Barbie doll he wanted and never gave her a chance. He took one look, registered fat woman and wrote her off.

It’s good that people see different points of view. I agree that Sean was expecting a pretty little thing and he got a tornado with obvious issues. He’s obviously ill equipped to deal with her ‘vivacious‘ personality and doesn’t find her attractive but at the same time, he needs to learn how to be tactful and kind. At the moment he doesn’t know what to do. IF they make it to the honeymoon it will be interesting to see if a) she calms down b) he is kind... I’m not holding out much hope!

I don’t see that Sean was expecting someone thin at all. I think he said ‘shit’ for nerves. Now I think he is in an awful position and is doing his best while feeling incredibly uncomfortable. I feel sorry for him. Jo isn’t an awful person but she is really full on and I couldn’t bear her. She obviously is going all in but doesn’t seem to be taking his demeanour into account. So far anyway. I may change my judgments later!

I’m another who’s going to stick up for Sean. They guy was white/grey, he was clearly really suffering with nerves and anxiety. I took the ‘oh shut’ to be ‘oh shit this just got real’ not ‘oh shit she looks horrendous’. Plus also she has her kids coming down the aisle with her, it could have been ‘oh shit there are 3 people in this thing I need to impress / win over and 2 are kids which I feel out of my depth with’. I don’t know where anyone gets the impression from that he wanted a Barbie doll, I certainly didn’t get that from it.

I also don’t blame him for looking so uncomfortable throughout, if I was sitting next to Jo and had her cackling at me and unsavoury comments about sweating and having BO I would also be wishing that I could leave! Jo subjected the poor guy to an onslaught, she didn’t give him a chance to settle into it.

Hope you and the other Sweatglands defenders are right - I'd rather he turned out to be a good bloke than not.

You are all certainly right that she can't "read" people - if someone was obviously as uncomfortable with me as he is with her I may have asked for help to get my dress unfastened if I couldn't manage, but then I would have got changed into a sturdy pair of pyjamas* in the en suite.

I agree it must have been terrifying for him to apparently be expected to perform.

*I would have been wearing sturdy pyjamas with any bloke I didn't know, but may have been prepared to loosen the top button if my new "DH" had turned out to be an Alan Rickman lookalike . . . especially if he was also an Alan Rickman soundalike . . .

They did the opposites nonsense with Vanessa and big Andy, introvert and extrovert. That didn't work, so why are they doing the same thing again with Jo and Sean?!?

Knowing the editing on this show the "oh shit" from Sean could have been said anytime before he saw her. They make everything look worse than it is. Also did I miss the bit where he said he wanted someone young and glamorous?
