Ready for the next car crash carnage - please fill up other thread first. I'm sure you can think of something. Grin

I thought Sean looked like a drinker from his flushed face etc. I think he's going to be this season's Debbie but without the honesty. He ordered a young, thin, submissive glamour puss and he's going to make Jo feel that she doesn't measure up in any way. Sad

I liked Mat and Alycia. His speech was fab and he was great with her brother. I'm quietly hopeful which means they are going to break my heart as well as each other's.

I've just realised who Jo reminds me of ... the Vicar of Dibley.

Have to admit I like them both too and am praying I'm very wrong.

I also agree that Sean probably likes a few jars, too.

But I don't like him any more so I don't care. (I thought he came across ok on the intro bit, but then he threw his Brownie points away when he was so rotten about Jo).

I am determined not to google anything spoilerish for this series, but I did find this non-spoilerish snippet: no fewer than 14,000 people apparently applied to be matched up in Season 5 Shock

SusansSassySidePony · 11/08/2020 23:16

Sean came across much better in the intro. He works in hospitality- he must have a bit of personality but he doesn't think Jo is worth the effort or the kindness. He acted like a 'petted lump' as my DM would say.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the experts turned up at the hotel the next day and said 'sorry . We made a mistake. Sean, here is your bus ticket home. Jo, here are tickets for you and your DCs to go on holiday.'
I'm sure our very own MAFS hosts Schadenrinder could pull it off Grin

Eaumyword · 11/08/2020 23:18

Did they really? Strewth!
I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's installment and also to find out what happens on the wedding night with Withdrawn Sean and Turbo Jo.

BlogTheBlogger · 11/08/2020 23:26

I forced suggested to my 2 DSs to watch it with me. They couldnt believe how rude Sean was, and as annoying that Jo was, she didnt deserve his rudeness and negativity. He was punching above his weight but obvs thought he could do better.

DS16 managed to bear it until they got to the hotel ("oh that lift was quick" from Sean Grin) but was hiding behind a cushion when they got to the suite and begged me to turn it off Grin blooming lightweight. Did I miss anything exciting?

Eaumyword · 11/08/2020 23:32

Hi Blog, no, it ended as they reached the bedroom suite I think. It was utterly cringe, he undid her dress practically with his elbows so as not to touch her with his actual hands and that was that.

MissMarplesHandbag · 11/08/2020 23:35

Matt and Alycia are very sweet. I hope to god that’s not the kiss of death for them. Same as Sarah and Talv (equally lovely).

Sean is a knob. Jo just needs to dial it down a bit.
Dean, I have no words for. I really hope Tracey didn’t shag him. But I suspect she did.

Yup, I’m hooked again!

BlogTheBlogger · 11/08/2020 23:42

Thanks Eau

he undid her dress practically with his elbows so as not to touch her

That's quite an image Grin sorry, I shouldnt laugh, poor Jo it must be just awful for her watching it back

AltheaThoon · 11/08/2020 23:56

I thought Alycia and Mat seemed lovely. I felt sorry for Alycia upon hearing some of her mum's comments "I thought this day would never come!", "Will I finally get grandchildren now?" and talking to camera saying Alycia hadn't found success the normal way. It seems like she may have been brought up with a lot of emphasis on finding someone and setting down, with success measured by relationships rather than personal achievements. Having said that, she and Mat genuinely seemed smitten with one another. I hope it works out.

rainbowlou · 12/08/2020 00:38

@SchadenfreudePersonifiedtotally off topic but my dd suffered from horrific migraines weekly and had her daith pierced, she has had about 5 since in the last 4 years 👍🏻

Colouringaddict · 12/08/2020 04:29

Who owns the net curtains that Jo had wrapped around her head for the entire episode?
Poor Shawn having to entirely undo the dress whilst grimacing and desperately looking for an exit!

That's amazing. Mine hasn't been quite so successful, but I've had one every 2 months or so, as opposed to one every 2 weeks. So it has made a difference for sure 👍

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/08/2020 07:07

I'm sure our very own MAFS hosts Schadenrinder could pull it off

I suspect Shadenrinder's Sent-From-Heaven Marriage Mix would be doing this on a regularises - as well as showing the whole group they lying gaslighting tricks some individuals pull and then deny / can't remember or try to explain away with "it was just a bit of boys' night banter"

Unfortunately we would end up, within two seasons with 20,000 women applying, and only about 9 men.

It would be worth it.

At the end of every episode we'd have a "Tip of the Week" - Hoe to recognise gaslighting, DARVO etc, and a list of organisations to contact if you or your children were in danger.

We would be a public service - tasers and all.

Jo = Janice Battersby!!

That's very interesting to know rainbow. I'll mention it to DD.

They are so painful they are incapacitating - can last days, despite the medication she's prescribed for them.

@Margsus

Jo = Janice Battersby!!
She is! Grin

And actually - she's a very pretty woman. Sweatglands Sean was lucky to get paired with her.

If she would just tone it down she'd be a pleasure to be in company with.

I'm sure it's defensive. She so desperately wanted this to work.

dimples76 · 12/08/2020 07:22

I liked Matt's Mum too! He does look a lot older than 32.

I started off feeling sorry for Jo's groom as I found her so irritating. However, that did not last long - why did he sign up for the show if he wasn't prepared to be open minded and throw himself into the experience. It is Jo's kids that I feel sorry for.

Last week I felt v uncomfortable with the kiss at the end of the wedding service between Sean and botox woman. He clearly wasn't going to take a no. I wonder if she will really enjoy the reality of being with her alpha male 24/7.

SpanishFly · 12/08/2020 07:56

Margsus haha, she is v like Janice Battersby - although I totally see her like Melissa McCarthy - esp as she's constantly a bit annoying zany

WhattheHishappening · 12/08/2020 08:13

I've worked with heavy drinkers in a clinical setting, and there is often a quality about them that's hard to define, but you know it when you see it.
I agree! It’s more than just a ‘flushed’ face!

Having said that! For the first time I’m going on these threads I’m going to disagree with the consensus!
Jo is awful full stop! She may well be damaged from previous relationships but whist she is hyped up, cackling her head off and behaving like a tornado she is oblivious to the other person in the room.
She doesn’t seem to care as long as she is ‘having the time of her life’.
On one hand I feel sorry for her but on the other hand I think SHUT UP!
Sean has shut down already! He doesn’t know what do do with someone so self absorbed. He wants out of there!

Italiangreyhound · 12/08/2020 08:30

Really don't like all the judgement of Sean. He's entitled to his feelings.

It was clearly very hot and he seems to suffer from some anxiety (which maybe should have meant he was not accepted for the programme- especially as I think thousands applied!)

He's not talking to camera, he's talking to himself and being almost constantly filmed!

He may not have even realised he was being watched so closely by camera they would hear the word 'shit'.

She may be the sort of woman who has built up hard shell due to being in a hard marriage. But she is a total stranger to him and he is feeling scared and under threat.

The way she behaved and the things she said were pretty much guaranteed to put off a lot of guys. Whether that is fair or not, I'd say it is what it is. Men are also entitled to not feel attracted.

I think she needs a brash, confident single dad. This is a real case of opposites not attracting.

During matching at no point did i hear the experts say anything like 'he really wants to be a dad' and clearly that is the most important factor in a match with a woman with young kids.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/08/2020 08:31

I wonder what sort of psychological assessment they do on the applicants?

So many of them (mainly women) seem very vulnerable, and so many of them (mainly men) seem manipulative and bullying. It's not a healthy combination.

Jo is annoying - she should never have been accepted for the show - they obviously wanted a "character".

But Sean is an rse. He obviously thought he could get a couple of months (and maybe even a shg) with a younger woman who would be well out of his league under normal circumstances.

Instead of treating this as a holiday "romance" and a chance to get to know a woman he would otherwise not have met and develop a sort of friendship, he didn't even have the courtesy to pretend to be happy to meet her.

He would have got so much sympathy and approval if he'd said "Wow - well, she's not quite what I expected as I had asked for someone who liked to sit and kinetic quietly while I sat watching TV and drinking quietly but let's see how it goes. I'm sure the EXPERTS know what they're doing"

(And has anyone noticed how much praise of the EXPERTS there has been the last two days? I can't remember ANYONE saying what a good job they did last series)..

OP posts:
SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/08/2020 08:33

*knit quite - not kinetic Confused

Also changing the name of our show to SCHADENRINDER'S MADE-IN-HEAVEN MARRIAGE MIX

I decided that when I was having my shower. It's just more alliterative.

I agree - and no-one should be expected to be intimate with someone they aren't attracted to, whether they are men or women, gay or straight - whatever - we like who we like - but there was no need to be so openly rude about her, KNOWING that this would be broadcast and would be publicly humiliating for her - and her children.

Children should be kept out of this, they really, really should.
