Debbie also whined that she DID get the orange cake she wanted but it wasn’t gluten-free...

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:21

I found this on the internet, not a spoiler...

But you CAN'T have been married before.
According to the Channel 4 website, you are only allowed to apply if you do not have any children and have never been married. They're very traditional, clearly.

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:24

LarkDescending I think Debbie said her arrival at the wedding was a Polynesian style so they must get some say.

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:25

That bit about channel 4 was for the UK not for other countries.

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:25

Who are people saying is the drinker?

LarkDescending · 11/08/2020 22:25

Egghead68 - ah yes, I’d forgotten about the orange cake. So perhaps they get to express views about partners’ characteristics, wedding locations, cake flavours and dietary preferences, with no guarantee that any or all of those will come to fruition.

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:26

His word 'shit' was not necessarily about the woman walking down the aisle, it may have been about the enormity of what he was doing.

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:27

If I were gluten free and my wedding cake were not, I'd be hopping mad, orange or not!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/08/2020 22:27

Mmmm - that seems strange Italian. Is that the Aussie one, or the UK one?

I think that it's a good rule not to have people with children as contestants - not just because it's not fair on them to be shown on TV, but because really, no-one knows who they are bringing into their lives on a show like this. How do any of these women know that their new "husband" isn't a paedophile? I'm surprised any woman with children would even think of being on the show to be honest.

Who are people saying is the drinker?

I think Matt looks like a drinker Italian - I might be wrong, and I'm not saying he's a "bad" person - I don't think he's a Spoony or Abandrew - but he definitely has the look of someone who enjoys a pint or ten. Not necessarily an alcoholic, but drinks more than is good for him.

I've worked with heavy drinkers in a clinical setting, and there is often a quality about them that's hard to define, but you know it when you see it.

I thought Seans "oh shit" was more "oh shit here we go kind of thing" not "oh shit are you having a laugh, state of her"

Well I really hope so anyway, but he didn't come across terribly well, his nerves were really bad and he looked liked he regretted ever applying.

I like Matt, hope I'm not proved wrong Smile

I remember Michael being very kspecific in S4, right down to must have small ear lobes and weigh less than 55kg.
SpanishFly · 11/08/2020 22:37

@SchadenfreudePersonified the ear piercing - was it the one almost inside her ear? If so, I have one - it's a daith piercing and allegedly helps with migraines

SpanishFly · 11/08/2020 22:38

Jo = a Melissa McCarthy character

VinylDetective · 11/08/2020 22:38

@InspectorGoul, no spoilers please!

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:40

SchadenfreudePersonified I have at least four friends who are or have been married to men who drink too much, are alcoholic. It's very destructive and so sad. I really hope you are not right.

FluffyPJs · 11/08/2020 22:41

@InspectorGoul No spoilers please! We are watching each episode in order and dissecting it as we go.

Eaumyword · 11/08/2020 22:44

For the UK one, the no children thing makes sense, but seems strange that you can't have been married before? I'm thinking of the folks that maybe had a lightning fast 'mistake' type of marriage, who would still have lots to give and a bit of learning too?

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:48

Matt was great with Alycia's brother, is he called Eden?

We are going to fill this thread up super fast, when we start a new one can we put 'no spoilers' in the title, please?

"I remember Michael being very specific in S4, right down to must have small ear lobes and weigh less than 55kg."

Yes, they get to say what they want in a partner, and may or may not get it, looks like Michael got the under 60 kilos and small ear lobes, Debbie didn't get her Polynesian man.

But I am wondering who decides the wedding. Matt and Alycia seemed to get married in a hotel at night and Jo and Sean in a beautiful garden. However, as it was clearly boiling in that garden, I think probably Alycia and Matt got the better deal.

Italiangreyhound · 11/08/2020 22:50

Eaumyword "For the UK one, the no children thing makes sense, but seems strange that you can't have been married before? I'm thinking of the folks that maybe had a lightning fast 'mistake' type of marriage, who would still have lots to give and a bit of learning too?"

I know, I kind f agree, but it may be that someone woudl be on rebund after a bad marriage etc and so this is a kind of 'protection'. But of course people could have lived with a partner for years and be on the rebound from that.

MonicaGB · 11/08/2020 22:51

Greer, spoilers. Trying not to find out anything on this series as I looked up everything last series.

Matt's mum is just like Lesley Garrett. I hope that marriage lasts.

"I'm mad me, Jo" is irritating me. I feel very sorry for Sean. He needs to run to the hills now.

Garby · 11/08/2020 22:52

@SchadenfreudePersonified

Sean is a tosser - I know Jo is loud, but he hasn't even given her a chance. He could take some time to get to know her as a person - I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of her round obnoxiousness is sheer bravado and inside she is an under confident, frightened little waif, who has had a horrible marriage to a man who undermined and insulted her destroyed her confidence, and she learned to hide her tears behind a wall built of loud in-yer-faceness.

(NB - this is pure speculation - she may be a raging nymphomaniac - but I honestly think that is a protective facade, and much as she grates on me, I think she's very vulnerable. Sean, however, has proved to be an *rse. It's not a legal marriage - he could have allowed her some dignity and kept things courteous and friendly, but he has been really unkind.

You are no great catch yourself, Sean. You're low-average-looking and don't have the redeeming feature of being a nice, kind man. I hope someone thinks a nickname for you, because mine are unprintable!

I totally agree with this schadenfreude, I think Jo is the sort of woman who’s built up a resilience to men who reject her superficially and I think she’s been matched with exactly that sort of man

I totally get that he might be overwhelmed etc but all his solo pieces to camera were ‘there’s no initial sparkM she seems too loud’. Maybe everyone in my life is too polite but I’m sure most decent people would say ‘there’s no initial spark but I’m hopeful it might grow’

I don’t know, maybe I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt too much and judging him too harshly, but the thought that you could walk up to someone and their first impression, whether it be the sort of blind date ,pat of us do or MAFS ‘experiment’ and someone’s first reaction to be to reel away from you and say ‘oh shit’ is just awful.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/08/2020 22:55

It was Spanishfly

That's interesting about the migraines - DD suffers horribly from them. I might mention it to her (not that there's room for any more ironmongery in her lugholes Grin). I've never seen a piercing in that particular spot before.
