For me, it's Pamela Rabe. So underrated but so immensely brilliant. Also think Jessica Lange is amazing.

I love Toby Jones too.

Would have loved to have seen Mark Rylance in Jerusalem.

Watched ‘Lynn and Lucy’ last weekend and I thought the two leads were amazing - Nicola Burley and Roxanne Scrimshaw. Roxanne Scrimshaw apparently has no formal training as an actor, but was a revelation - a remarkable up and coming talent, I feel.

Alan Rickman
Imelda Staunton, amazing in Gypsy.
Jodie Comer
Jason Watkins
Glenn Close, utterly mesmerising is Sunset Boulevard. Whatever stage presence is, she has it in bulk!
DH & I saw Carey Mulligan in the terrifying Dr Who Weeping Angels episode & we both said that she had some sort of star quality, we were both entranced by her!

Agree with so many of these. Acting is an amazing talent. Like a PP said, brilliant actors are so captivating no matter what they're in.

I love actors from the old days of Hollywood, especially James Stewart, Jean Arthur, Claude Rains, Barbara Stanwyck, Dana Andrews. Margaret Rutherford is also brilliant as PP has mentioned.

Love loads of the others mentioned too - Derek Jacobi, Eileen Atkins, Meryl Streep, Andy Garcia, Viola Davis.

Need a film night tonight now!

Henry Cavill. Very talented thighs.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 08/08/2020 18:54

Rory Kinnear. I would go watch anything he's in. His Iago a few years ago was astonishing.

Soontobe60 · 08/08/2020 18:57

Jodie Comer. I’ve seen her in so many things without realising it’s her, because she’s so diverse and can change her persona so well.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 08/08/2020 20:02

Sian Gibson.

Totally natural. Totally believable.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 08/08/2020 20:03

And, oh yes, Anne Reid.

I love Rory Kinnear too.
TrobadoraBeatrice · 08/08/2020 20:20

Pete Postlethwaite and Heath Ledger in particular. I share the love for Michael Sheen and David Tennant too...

GarlicSoup · 08/08/2020 20:22

Freddie Fox is mesmerising.

MintyCedric · 08/08/2020 20:26

@MummingIt2018

Monica Dolan is amazing. She was in The Silkworm and her performance was absolutely heartbreaking.

wowfudge · 08/08/2020 20:30

I don't think John Simm or Christopher Eccleston have been mentioned yet. Both excellent actors.

waltzingparrot · 08/08/2020 20:32

Toby Jones for me. His characters are so believable.

SaigonSaigon · 08/08/2020 20:41

Ben Wishaw has me mesmerised in everything he does.

Always loved Anne Reid too.

Erictheavocado · 08/08/2020 21:16

@WheresThatCatGoneNow

And, oh yes, Anne Reid.
Funny you should say that - we've been watching her and Maureen Lipman in Ladies of Letters on Amazon Prime. Both are very good. I loved James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Greer Garson and Vivian Leigh. Tom Hanks is also amazing. I saw Patrick Stewart on stage and he was mesmerising.
blacktanwhite · 08/08/2020 21:27

Word @wowfudge

wowfudge · 08/08/2020 21:29

What do you mean?

IceCreamSummer20 · 08/08/2020 21:30

Andrew Scott in Macbeth
Surprised how many people said Jodie Comer. I think she’s good but not amazing.
Mark Rylance in anything.
Love Christopher Eccleston
Sandra Bullock
Ingrid Bergman - she is just so classy
Loved Judy Garland
Cate Blanchett
Jodie Foster
Daniel Day Lewis - so powerful and engaging
Leonardo di caprio
Brad Pitt (he has something)
Henry Fonda

Wow there are so many I could go on. Would love to be an actress!

Augustseemsbetter · 08/08/2020 21:49

Barbara Stanwyck, yes!

burnoutbabe · 08/08/2020 21:59

Micheal sheen is awful in good fight, I hated all his scenes. (And he is sane in prodigal son too)
Imelda Staunton is great, I sooo hated her as Umbridge then loved her in an apple show about adopting.

NataliaOsipova · 08/08/2020 22:03

Simon Russell Beale. But I also think David Tennant is a spectacular actor: from Shakespeare to Broadchurch to the most fantastic Don Juan. He’s really versatile.

Also like Benedict Cumberbatch (he was on the stage a lot before he was very famous and is genuinely a very talented actor), Olivia Coleman (ditto) and Oliver Chris.

HeyAllYouCoolCatsAndKittenz · 08/08/2020 22:09

i love jack nicholson and robert de niro. i would watch anything they r in. xx

BobGalaxy · 09/08/2020 00:25

I forgot Elisabeth Moss. She is mesmerising.

Scruffymac · 09/08/2020 00:33

Viola Davis in any role, James McAvoy and Daniel Day Lewis particularly as Bobby Sands.
