I think everybody knows 🤔

StillCoughingandLaughing · 24/02/2021 16:23

Alf is so thin Shock

I had never heard the expression ‘On the other bus’ before Fiona used it about Jason of Bamboo, but it rapidly became one of my favourites Grin

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 24/02/2021 16:24

I wa a confused because nobody mentioned her being pregnant and then they were giving her champagne too.

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 24/02/2021 16:25

Btw not saying she can’t have champagne, just that you would expect someone who jones she was pregnant to say something like “can you have this?” Or “or only one glass, it won’t harm the baby” etc

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 24/02/2021 16:26

Jones= knows

MrsKFZeeeeee · 24/02/2021 21:21

I thought the same @JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority. I'd forgotten how nasty Alec could be, he really is quite self centred & heartless isn't he. The way he is treating Vera and Jack is making me cross

StillCoughingandLaughing · 25/02/2021 00:27

I don’t know if maybe there’s more to it, as I was just starting uni when these episodes were originally screened, so didn’t see them all - but is that the end of the ‘Les creeping through the loft’ story? It went on for weeks - is Emily saying ‘Oh well, at least I’m rid of Percy’ really the end of it?

On that subject, Percy deserved a much better exit. Couldn’t Rita and a couple of the others have at least popped outside to say goodbye? Kevin is related by marriage, for heaven’s sake.

KarensChoppyBob · 25/02/2021 09:06

I was a bit baffed at Fiona coming across so tipsy (!)

x2boys · 25/02/2021 10:43

Yes me too ,she's about four months pregnant,it's a bit irresponsible of Corrie .

Liverbird77 · 25/02/2021 14:58

Is Ravi Desai, one of the best characters ever, about to appear?? DEAR LADY!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 25/02/2021 15:37

I think we’re a year away from Ravi as yet. ‘Neeeeeta my daaaaaaahling!’

Strange to think his kids are now stepmom and stepson in Emmerdale.

x2boys · 25/02/2021 15:59

Alf looks dreadful and sounds dreadful I know he wasn't well at this point irl .

KarensChoppyBob · 25/02/2021 16:10

The ancient racism lately is making me cringe. Even on the stag night . That's not my recollection of things at the time, as a teen in London. May have been different in Manchester then?

x2boys · 25/02/2021 19:58

I'm in greater Manchester, and was in the 90,s I don't recall any overt racism and Alan's Dad and colleague were certainly vile about Fiona's family I was a mental health nurse at the time and many of my collegues were not white , and ime, no I didn't hear any awful racist language that was portrayed but I can't say it didn't happen?

justthecat · 25/02/2021 20:37

Just more now Deirdre simpering at John 🤢

thenightsky · 25/02/2021 20:41

Fiona's wedding spread over 2 episodes - they'd not manage that nowadays. I thought it was very well done.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 25/02/2021 20:45

Yeah. I'm a Manc and I certainly never witnessed any racism in the 90s. I thought with Alan's colleagues they were going down the institutional racism road. Is Alan's dad supposed to be an ex policeman?

x2boys · 25/02/2021 21:16

Yeah I thought Institutional racism ?
I'm not sure Alan's father was in the police but there was an inference he used to beat him with a belt ?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 25/02/2021 21:41

I haven’t seen today’s episodes yet, but on the stag night, Alan’s colleagues looked like they’d never even seen a black man outside of a police station before. I get that there have been massive issues with institutional racism in the police force (particularly in the 90s), but would a room full of men really have stopped and stared at the mere sight of a black man in a pub? It all seemed a bit hackneyed.
Ontheboardwalk · 25/02/2021 21:54

Manchester, Salford etc have always been multinational areas. Certainly no stopping and gasping at the sight of a black man

I get the institutional racism that existed at the time but the thought of no black people in the force and the gasping was just too far fetched

Ontheboardwalk · 25/02/2021 21:57

Oh and Fiona looked absolutely stunning!

eggandonion · 26/02/2021 12:22

I was shocked looking at it through modern eyes, I don't know if I was shocked then. (I had a baby and two small kids, concentration was lacking). I was similar watching It's aSin. Attitudes have changed so much.
Strange that classic corrie and it's a sin have both made me think! In a way the modern corrie won't.

TopTabby · 26/02/2021 13:20

It was brilliant yesterday! Enjoyed it so much more than the 2021 effort.

Uronmute · 26/02/2021 14:54

Painful watching Jim make such a tit of himself

StillCoughingandLaughing · 26/02/2021 15:00

Had anyone else forgotten what a good character Maxine was? I never really thought of her as a ‘classic’ character, but watching her again now, she’s got a good mix of sense of humour and spirit. I also like Samantha more than I remembered.
