The ghost storyline is tedious, and the effect on Percy (one of my faves) is heartbreaking.

I love Percy too. I went to Lidl and missed today's episode. My life is so glamorous.

I have a soft spot for Percy ,as he looks just like my Grandad did same mannerisms too.

I never thought it years ago, but watching again now, I can see Emily is quite mean to Percy sometimes. She’s remembered as a living saint for putting up with him, but in reality could be very short-tempered and short on compassion.

She's very intolerant of him ,but I don't think she ever really wanted him living there ,she was kind of forced into it ,it tickles me that she calls him Mr Sugden and he calls her Mrs Bishop 🤣

Yes, that seems very particular to that generation. My grandmother and her neighbour called each other Mrs Wilson and Mrs Laughing for 30 years.

People always ask me how “Mrs Smith” (my granny) is. It’s a thing of it’s time. My granny also refers to her own close friends by their full name “I’m just going to give Mary Black a ring”

Yes my Grandma did the same with her neighbour / best friend ,Mrs " o,shea" and Mrs " Farrell "🤣,but Percy and Emily have livid together for God knows how many years .

My mother in law has Mrs McDonagh. It sounds so ancient.

Oooh glad I've found this thread! I gave in & stuck a series link on it a couple of weeks ago.
I felt really sorry for Percy, can't remember if he actually goes to Mayfield Court or not but I just want him to be happy. I feel quite differently about the characters watching it through older eyes. I used to find Maureen really annoying but I felt sympathy for her this time stuck with Fred & trying to keep Maureen happy. Felt sorry for Ken when Emily put him in his place when he lied to protect Deirdre, we all know how that's going to end up!

Yy this exactly. Maybe I didn't really notice it at the time (was about 14/15 tbf) but she really patronises him. I'd be off too. Poor Percy.

I do not like the Emily Bishop character. I don't know why she was so revered and safe from the chop.

She did a lot of work for charidee.

I'm surprised angie has any teeth, she's always drinking massive amounts of orange juice.

Gail is being extremely unreasonable about Nick ,I remember from the first time how controlling she was .

I think this is the time period where I started watching Corrie as I can’t really remember any storylines from before but I definitely remember Gail being horrified by Nick and Leanne. she was so stupid- Martin was spot on, she should have just let it fizzle out instead of giving nick something to push back against.

Yeah exactly they would have been sick of each other after six months if she had just let it run it's course .

I got the impression she was trying to look like Natalie, god knows why.

I totally thought she was copying Natalie, the styled hair and makeup

Why does everything that Martin Platt says sound vaguely aggressive? It's comical how he slightly raises his voice and/or ends every sentence with "eh?"
