The secrets she keeps : SPOILER thread

As above, I've decided to start a spoiler thread as I binged watched it last night. For anyone who has already watched it !

Do not read if you are watching in real time !
.....

Spoilers ..

I thought it was a bit silly and I'm confused as to the graves for the other babies; did she kill those children? How did she get away with that? Was Nicky ( her ex) from the church?
The final episode was laughable : Meghan took about a minute to get to the museum to see Aggie , but the police seemed to take forever to get to them.

Where did she get her money from and you never saw them change a nappy either.
The acting wasn't too bad although how Aggie managed to talk her way out of things was ridiculous.
The places they went to also seemed curiously empty of other people as well!

I was a bit disappointed by it all but it did while away a rainy day. Maybe the book was better?
What do others think?

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 21/07/2020 23:14

Yes exactly the phone numbers
She can't have had the same phone number as she didn't swap the SIM over
And Agatha can't have known the temporary number
Plot hole

MotherofPearl · 21/07/2020 23:44

I'm another one wondering about Aggie's mother. Was the mother really in Bali? At one point I thought maybe Aggie had killed her mother? The house in Katoomba certainly looked abandoned.

Whatthebloodyell · 22/07/2020 09:00

The way it just barely
Mentioned the other dead babies really
Annoyed me. It was just like ‘yeah, they died because she wasn’t their real mother’.

NewCatMummy · 22/07/2020 09:44

In the book she takes SIM cards from the supermarket when she’s there overnight and her mum is in Spain throughout. Very unrealistic that three babies would be ill/die though.

IntermittentParps · 22/07/2020 10:21

The three graves are the ashes of chloe…Chloe was the result of many rounds of ivf and Agatha tried all the usual routes to getting pregnant but couldn’t which explains the ‘why didn’t she just have one of her own’ aspect

The IVF thing was explained in the TV show in her conversation with her ex; he's surprised that she's pregnant (or seems to be) and she says the doctors said it can happen after you stop IVF.

I still don't buy, though, that Chloe would be buried out under a bridge like that and not have had a proper funeral and death certificate.

MotherofPearl, Hayden does say he called her mother in Bali, so she's not dead. But earlier someone said the mother was 'off the grid' on her holiday, so Confused
And I still don't know why Agatha would have left that voicemail pretending she was speaking to a doctor's surgery on her mother's home machine. Unless she somehow thought she could get back to the house before her mother returned, and wipe it?

Papergirl1968 · 22/07/2020 10:58

Probably panicking and not thinking straight about what mum would think when she got back from holiday. Let’s face it, she didn’t have form for thinking through the consequences of things!
Overall, I enjoyed it. I can’t see much in common with the true story it was allegedly based on. I thought both the lead actresses did a good job, especially Laura Carmichel, who was made to look particularly unglamorous with hair that looked like it needed a good wash and dowdy clothes, while the other one wafted about looking angst.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/07/2020 15:16

Finally seen all 6

As usual the newborn was huge

And she had just had a cs but lying on the floor - most mums I know struggle to sit up After a cs. Def can’t get on the floor and curl up

Sad about Chloe but yes why not a death certificate

Assume baby she has via rape as teenager was put up for absorption
And till they are 18 can’t look for her

Unlikely the 2 babies she steals both die

Not sure why ex said he would call her mum. But that meant his death

The swapping of dna. Unless used a strangers instead of hubby then might show his baby

As in might be hubbys m

Or was she so sure it was friendS hence the switch

FrugiFan · 22/07/2020 15:39

Agree that it seemed very unlikely that all three babies she stole ended up dying or nearly dying (it is implied that Ben would have been very seriously ill if he hadnt been found). And I do agree that it had a bit of an undertone of "she can't look after them because shes not their real mum" which is ridiculous.

I enjoyed it. I thought her backstory was harrowing and I did have sympathy for her. On the other hand I didnt like Meghan at all, her attitude and also lying to her husband. Obviously I dont think she deserved to have her baby taken, but I do think it would have been better if he found out about her affair.

purpleme12 · 22/07/2020 15:48

I think she just didn't want to take the chance the it might be his

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/07/2020 17:41

so whose dna did she use

as will say 100% not the dad

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 22/07/2020 18:31

She swapped her elder son’s mouth swab for the baby’s knowing her husband is definitely the elder son’s biological father and so no DNA match with her ex lover. She told the boy it was a teeth cleaning check when he asked what she was doing.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/07/2020 21:11

Oh. I missed that bit with mouth swab eldest son

MotherofPearl · 22/07/2020 22:24

Parps, ah yes. Though was it to the police that Hayden said he'd spoken to Aggie's mother? I thought perhaps he made it up to fox the police? Or did he say to Aggie he's spoken to her mum? I only watched it last week and I'm already forgetting!

purpleme12 · 22/07/2020 22:29

It showed him starting a conversation with her on the phone

HalfTermHalfTerm · 22/07/2020 22:49

Not sure why ex said he would call her mum. But that meant his death

I think he was already suspicious that she’d stolen the baby after watching the cctv, and the fact that she wasn’t able to fall pregnant naturally when they were together. So by ringing her mum he could have had his suspicions confirmed as Aggie had claimed her mum had been there with her at the birth... he would have called Aggie’s mum and she’d have said “what grandchild?!”. Or alternatively he might not have been suspicious and he might genuinely have been going to ring her mum to congratulate her on the birth of her grandson and to say hello.

Either way, Aggie couldn’t risk him speaking to her mum as he would have realised that she was lying. So she pushed him in front of a train Confused

purpleme12 · 22/07/2020 22:50

Yes I think the first bit of your post is right that he had his suspicions it was her and he wanted to find her out

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 22/07/2020 22:54

I’m so confused by all the blankets over every pram in a presumably hot country!

Missing the point but still!

MotherofPearl · 23/07/2020 06:55

Thanks purple, I had forgotten that!

IntermittentParps · 23/07/2020 10:09

She talks to her ex while she’s still ‘pregnant’ though.

Lorddenning1 · 23/07/2020 16:22

@Furball - what i dont get is, she had 3 babies,
Emily - she gave away.
Lizzie - the baby she snatched from the betting shop and then died.
Chloe - was still born.
why where there 3 graves and the remains for 3 babies, so my guess would be one of them is Lizzie, who are the 2 other babies?

Furball · 23/07/2020 16:28

@lordenning1

I can't quite remember and I've now loaned my book out due to popular demand Grin But maybe she had a grave for Emily so she had somewhere she could visit her alongside the others.

Clawdy · 23/07/2020 17:24

Lorddenning1 the baby graves were Chloe her own stillborn baby, then the baby she stole who died, and then the second baby she stole who also died.

Lorddenning1 · 23/07/2020 17:58

Ah right, many thanks for explaining

HalfTermHalfTerm · 23/07/2020 18:38

@IntermittentParps Yes, I don’t think he was overly suspicious at that point though? And it would be strange to call her mum to congratulate her on becoming a grandmother before the grandchild had been born.

IntermittentParps · 24/07/2020 09:43

Half, but that was the point at which he threatened to speak to her mum.
