As above, I've decided to start a spoiler thread as I binged watched it last night. For anyone who has already watched it !

Do not read if you are watching in real time !
.....

Spoilers ..

I thought it was a bit silly and I'm confused as to the graves for the other babies; did she kill those children? How did she get away with that? Was Nicky ( her ex) from the church?
The final episode was laughable : Meghan took about a minute to get to the museum to see Aggie , but the police seemed to take forever to get to them.

Where did she get her money from and you never saw them change a nappy either.
The acting wasn't too bad although how Aggie managed to talk her way out of things was ridiculous.
The places they went to also seemed curiously empty of other people as well!

I was a bit disappointed by it all but it did while away a rainy day. Maybe the book was better?
What do others think?

MsLumley, yes, good point. I'm more puzzled than ever though about why it was such a threat to her for her ex to say he'd talk to the mother.

Nibblingoncrumpets · 14/07/2020 19:58

I think there was so much left unanswered. The show had a lot
Of
Potential and it was wasted.

Winniewonka · 14/07/2020 20:04

@The80sweregreatIntermittent - Her ex must have seen her postings on SM, presumably with the baby (borrowed from the neighbour) and she went to a lot of trouble to show a birthing pool and blood (from deliberately cutting herself) so this must have been posted too, hence why ex knew about the birth and sent flowers.
In the cafe she said told him she gave birth in Katoomba and he must know that's where her mother lives and presumably has her contact details.
I thought he was being a bit menacing when he whispered in her ear about getting in touch with her Mum to offer congratulations, he already suspected her, knows that she is possibly lying and that's what I meant by calling her bluff😀

Winniewonka · 14/07/2020 20:07

I don't know how this username has appeared! I was trying to answer Intermittent's question!

Willowmartha1 · 14/07/2020 21:50

I didn't understand why she didn't wear more of a different wig to her own hairstyle !! She was wearing a long blonde one at first then changed it one very similar to her own hair bizarre !!

bumblenbean · 14/07/2020 23:52

Just finished the whole series! Overall I really liked it but it was pretty far fetched in many respects.

My main issue is how the police didn’t immediately suspect her when it transpired she’d taken 2 other babies!?? Who were never found (we now know they died)! Surely as soon as Meg’s contacts and friends were identified Agatha would have raised massive red flags - yet they said her alibis checked out and she ‘wasn’t a danger’?! Wtf?? Are we to assume she was merely suspected of the other 2 kidnappings but it was never proved? Even if so, that would still surely have been enough to haul her in and check out the background to the baby she was claiming to be hers? I just don’t think she would have got away with it for so long.

I actually found myself feeling a bit sorry for Hayden. He started off a real selfish twat but obviously came to love the baby and Agatha - obviously he was messed up and flawed but he was a victim of it all too in a way.

Also - pushing the ex under the train... seemed a bit extreme (even for her!) - and the police seemed to run out of steam investigating it. They said something like there was a ‘suggestion’ he was pushed - surely the CCTV and witnesses would have been categorical that he was!

LadyEloise · 15/07/2020 08:33

It finished on Irish tv last night.
Apparently it's based on a true story Sad
I thought it was well done. The suspense and tension were kept up.
Hayden trying to save the baby and Agatha was touching. Yet even being shown that love failed to reach the so damaged Agatha.
Clever re the DNA.

thesunwillout · 15/07/2020 09:06

It started off so watchable, for it to be cocked up with so many unanswered questions at the end.

What a shame.

IntermittentParps · 15/07/2020 11:49

Thanks Winniewonka.

AngelaScandal · 15/07/2020 14:27

True story in so far based on a baby abducted from a UK hospital by a woman who had experienced losses (?) I think. I remember it happening, I think I was off school sick that week.

BaconAndAvocado · 15/07/2020 14:39

Loved this series. I need more thrillers of the non American type, if anyone has any suggestions?

Yes I also felt sorry for Hayden.

I thought Lady Edith was great in it.

IndigoApple · 15/07/2020 18:39

@BaconAndAvocado me too! I read a review of it that described it as gripping but forgettable. I think this is ideal for the current times! Do you have Netflix? I'd recommend Safe and The Stranger if so.

BaconAndAvocado · 15/07/2020 21:33

Indigo I've watched and enjoyed both of those series.

BobFleming · 16/07/2020 09:28

It was all rather silly by the end, I thought.

MrsMariaReynolds · 16/07/2020 12:17

Enjoyable but a bit far-fetched at times. Massive CCTV failures all round. And Hayden faking being sick to flee on foot, felt like that almost needed a Benny Hill tune in the background 😂

The ending was a bit anti-climactic too. Way too many unanswered questions.

wintertime6 · 17/07/2020 12:55

Does anyone have any recommendations for any other of the books written by this author? Would enjoy a good read, and really enjoyed watching this series.

purpleme12 · 21/07/2020 01:17

I loved it

But I wondered at the end Agatha managed to ring Megan's original phone and also the one the police gave her to borrow. How would she have both their numbers?!

tessiegirl · 21/07/2020 16:48

She was only ringing one phone. Meghan had swapped the phones earlier on.

purpleme12 · 21/07/2020 18:52

But she had 2 phones at that point the one the police took from her for looking for stuff which was kept at police station and the one he police gave her to see in the meantime as a replacement. She took the sticker saying Megan's phone off the original phone and put it on the replacement so the police would still think they had her phone and she took her original one back

NewCatMummy · 21/07/2020 21:30

I read the book as I had so many questions after the tv series. It’s set in London with agathas mums house and the graves in Leeds. The three graves are the ashes of chloe (stillborn- 32 weeks and 5 months pregnant mentioned so not sure whixh) and the bodies of Lizzie (stolen outside a shop when Agatha was 18, was prem/sickly and died in the night) and Emily (stolen later through an open window, drowned on vomit overnight). Chloe was the result of many rounds of ivf and Agatha tried all the usual routes to getting pregnant but couldn’t which explains the ‘why didn’t she just have one of her own’ aspect. Or why she didn’t get a birth certificate for Rory- surely people who have homebirths can go and register a birth? How was she planning on getting a gp/school place/ passport etc if it had worked out?!

purpleme12 · 21/07/2020 21:43

I think she was so messed up that she wasn't thinking Clearly a lot of the time

I just can't believe how she must have got away with 2 babies going missing before this one and dying...

Fr0gChorus · 21/07/2020 21:48

The most ridiculous bit was when Meghan didn’t recognise her own baby outside the church. Even when she stroked him and looked at his face.Confused

Clawdy · 21/07/2020 22:37

The phones were so confusing, Aggie seemed to have about three or four, and Meghan at least two!

Papergirl1968 · 21/07/2020 23:10

I think Megan didn’t really see the baby clearly as he was in a sling facing Agatha.
The phone thing confused me until I remembered that when the police took Megan’s they emphasised she’d get an identical replacement. Although I’m a bit confused about the husband ringing her original
phone in the police station, which is when they realised she’d swapped phones, and Agatha ringing her on the replacement phone. Did she get the same phone number?
As for how they would get a passport or driving licence for Rory when he was older, I think Agatha could apply for a replacement birth certificate for a baby who has recently died. Any baby, not one of the ones she stole. You just go to a crem or graveyard or search local papers or funeral directors for announcements online. Of course, she’d have had to call the stolen baby by that particular name though.
(I’ve watched too many trashy dramas!)

Papergirl1968 · 21/07/2020 23:11

Ps Agatha kept buying pay as you go phones and throwing them so she couldn’t be traced.
