Very trendy vicar on Sunday Morning Live!

Raahh · 28/06/2020 11:44

Private I don't think I could watch either of the Rafa/Kyrgios matches again. They are bound to show the one where Dick beat him though. The commentary in last year's match was appalling - they were so desperate for an upset, it was like they wanted actual blood shed on the court. I'm just glad Rafa was classy enough not to rise to the bait.

Last year's final was odd. It was so up and down. But didn't have the feel of a classic about it, despite being so long. It will probably be remembered as one- but it didn't feel like one, imo. But that's probably because I don't like either of them Grin.

What I am going to miss, talking of box office Grin, as much as watching the matches, is looking over the order of play for the next day, and trying to guess what the 'popcorn' Grin matches are likely to be.

They are not always the ones that get the most exposure, ime. I love a long, late night match, that ends sometime after 9. Usually featuring Gasquet or someone.

I'm glad a lot of players got to retire last year, properly. Like Ferrer , and Baghdatis. Would have been a shame to go out without a fanfare.

I know what you mean Raahh it drives me mad when they hype up a match or a player - it inevitably ends up being a disappointment while a really good match will be happening out on court 14 that barely gets a mention!

PrivateSpidey · 28/06/2020 13:24

Yes! Or, my other bugbear, when an "underdog" plays really well, puts in a great performance, plays at their absolute limits, etc, yet gets barely any credit because the top player still won. Hmm

Ha nothing like moaning about coverage of Wimbledon when it's not even on Grin

Raahh · 28/06/2020 13:38

We can spend 2 weeks doing this, Spidey.

I am currently sitting in my car , outside a dentist, waiting to find out if they have managed to extract dh's teeth.

At least it isn't quite as warm today.

Oh yikes - good luck to your DH Raahh.

Yes I think criticising the commentary brings some authenticity to the fortnight Grin

Fizzywinegum · 28/06/2020 13:47

Grin You’re right Spidey - I’ll still be waiting for Sue the voice of doom telling us that Rafa will be on the red button at a really crucial point and for Eggheads to appear!

JaneJeffer · 28/06/2020 15:03

I guess I don't have to tune in my red button channels this year Sad

Fizzywinegum · 28/06/2020 16:31

Oh dear hope your DH is OK Raahh

Just saw the end of the match - a good win for Dan Evans - wasn’t sure who had the creaky bench. Caught one of Kyle’s change of ends interviews - it was scintillating Hmm

Raahh · 28/06/2020 17:26

Well, dh survived. He is groggy from the sedation, but it went well and he doesn't remember anything.

hopefully he will now stop moaning

I'm not at most most tolerant, at the moment. Grin.

I am so sad I missed Kyles interview. Really. Grin.

Kyle really ran out of steam in the second set but then, Dan played well almost throughout. Kyle did show a brief flash of humour in his after match speech, by telling Jamie Murray he didn't think it was necessary for him (Jamie) to have quite as many shirt buttons undone Grin

It was also quite funny seeing Andy picking up the balls as James Ward's coach, having avoided doing so all week! Even Sam Smith said she was enjoying watching him do it Grin

JaneJeffer · 28/06/2020 20:26

Glad your DH is ok Raahh

Today has been a week long.

Raahh · 28/06/2020 20:28

Jane some days really feel that way, don't they?

@JaneJeffer

Glad your DH is ok Raahh

Today has been a week long.

Every day feels like an aeon.

Watched the Wimbledon programme. Made me feel a bit sad for all we are not getting this year.

Raahh · 29/06/2020 13:31

[sob]

They are playing the theme tune.
This is not how Wimbledon is meant to be.

Fizzywinegum · 29/06/2020 13:31

I’m feeling a bit sad about no Wimbledon as well magi Sad

Is anyone going to watch Roger and Rafa? It’s definitely not Pimms weather here - more like winter!

I’ve claimed my place on the settee - I may have to fight off a challenge from DH and DS1 who have been watching reruns of the Tours de France. It’s called Tour de France Recycled which I think is a pretty good title - better than Wimbledon Rewind.

Oh it’s the Wimbledon music - making me feel even more sad Sad

Raahh · 29/06/2020 13:32

Spooky seeing the scoreboard stuck at the last score of the men's final.

And here comes the 2008 final.

OP posts:
Raahh · 29/06/2020 13:33

x post Fizzy The music nearly set me off. Sad

OP posts:
Raahh · 29/06/2020 13:33

And Rafa reading 'If'. In his very best Rafa-ish.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 29/06/2020 13:35

Me too Raahh Sad maybe sleeveless Rafa will cheer me up! Oh god AC is commentating!

JaneJeffer · 29/06/2020 13:35

I feel nervous ConfusedGrin

Fizzywinegum · 29/06/2020 13:38

I wonder who’ll win Jane Grin

Raahh · 29/06/2020 13:38

Jane Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 29/06/2020 13:42

Nothing much has changed over the last 12 years though. Going off the first 5 minutes, it's a very pro-Federer match.

I loved Rafa in the sleeveless top/long shorts days. And he looks so young. Which of course he is. Grin.
