It's an old one. The Jewel in The Crown. It stayed so close to Paul Scott's books and really took it's time. Today it would be rolled up into three episodes with the detail, the nuance, the tragedy of it all (the British in India) stripped out.

oohnicevase · 03/07/2020 07:12

Is dark really worth the annoyance of the dubbing??

Bluemoooon · 03/07/2020 07:34

Succession was very good.
Fleabag
Mad Men
I don't like blood and gore.

Bluemoooon · 03/07/2020 07:40

I loved the Jewel in the Crown at the time.
Art Malik pops up on tv now and again.
I still remember Judy Parfitt's icy performance - brilliant.

Katinski · 03/07/2020 12:43

Ah, I'd forgotten The Jewel in the Crown and also The Durrells. Both so well done.

Mrhodgeymaheg · 03/07/2020 22:40

Chernobyl

Years and years

Detectorists

Bodyguard

I quite like Kay Mellor series as they are light and easy to watch. No big twists or surprises, but the are down to earth and a bit more realistic.

Anyone seen Love Sick? Supposed to be good.

Yes The Jewel in the Crown was incredible!

FarquarKumquatsmama · 08/07/2020 23:00

@Gompurtz @OneFootintheRave and others (sorry, haven’t RTFT), The Wire is the best series I have ever seen.
It was so good, I think it was partly responsible for my divorce as I lived and felt alongside the characters and it was one hell of a rollercoaster!
Never have I felt that TV was so real, almost too real, like it almost intruded into my real life.
I can’t recommend it enough. I get goosebumps when I even think about it.
The series with the school had me sobbing. I felt like I had lost my own students at the end (I’m a teacher).
The acting is absolutely phenomenal.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 08/07/2020 23:02

newmodelarmy I felt the same about Twin Peaks. I loved it as a 12 year old watching with my friends, tried to watch it a few years ago when I had a Love Film subscription and couldn't be doing with it.

Line of Duty
Luther
London's Burning
Downton Abbey
Dinnerladies
Last Tango in Halifax
Killing Eve
Poldark
Wild at Heart

A lot of these I can't rewatch because they bring back memories of cosy evenings with DH.

80sMum · 08/07/2020 23:14

These are the ones that stand out for me as being particularly memorable and outstanding.

The Americans
The Night Manager
Broadchurch
Desperate Housewives
I, Claudius (showing my age there!)
24 (the first 3 or 4)
Homeland (again, the earlier ones were the best)

@oohnicevase I can't stand dubbing. Changed the language to german original and watch with English subtitles. Only half way through first series but hooked!
