We have been discussing the series Our Girl since the first one aired in 2014 and are now on number 56! Occasionally between discussions of Our Girl, we watch the 1990s series of Soldier Soldier.

Georgie must be in shock - she and CJ have to comfort each other.

Ilovelblue · 21/07/2020 21:49

You can look eejit but it's only because Thara is on the phone again.

Where’s my hanky

Rhubarb01 · 21/07/2020 21:50

Well that's a first - they're actually finishing some mission they started.

Ilovelblue · 21/07/2020 21:50

I think it's nearly time to switch off.

Milan's quick to take advantage with his hugging.

Rhubarb01 · 21/07/2020 21:52

Yes - Maisie it is your fault you filled her head wit nonsense.

Never mind - Georgie thinks you're good, could be because she's messed up so many times herself?

eejittwo · 21/07/2020 21:52

Most unlike 2 Section to finish a tour, when Georgie is involved.

Rhubarb01 · 21/07/2020 21:52

It's the letter time now - I might listen but not comment Sad

Ilovelblue · 21/07/2020 21:53

Sorry guys, but I don't want to listen to this. I still find it too much.

The only consolation would have been that the brat had drowned.

Rhubarb01 · 21/07/2020 21:56

Poor CJ is suffering too - it's not difficult to see how he turned into that pale shadow of his former self in the next 8 weeks.

Actually, at least little Thara/Farah/Tara did survive.

Never fear, Ma Lane is here - all is well in the world - Manchester in the rain.

Rhubarb01 · 21/07/2020 21:57

I suspect we are not entirely at one over little Thara/Fara/Tara eejit Grin

Ilovelblue · 21/07/2020 21:59

I turned the sound off and only put it back on when Georgie was home in Manchester!

At least Thara came back so that was a happy ending for her I guess.

We need to decide what we're doing next week. Are we carrying on with series 3? Or going back to series 1? Or even taking off where we left off with Soldier Soldier?

Creepy Milan watching the kids.

Rhubarb01 · 21/07/2020 22:00

That episode ranks right up there with killing Matthew Crawley in the Christmas Day episode of Downton Abbey.

eejittwo · 21/07/2020 22:01

I’d suggested skipping the rest is series 3 and jumping in to Series 4. Then we could do series1 or back to Soldier soldier

Ilovelblue · 21/07/2020 22:03

Anything is fine by me really eejit. Just to warn you both though, I won't be able to do Tuesday 4 August as - shock horror - I am hoping to be on holiday!

Happy to miss the rest of series 3 - the only good bit is Rab and Maisie getting together. Can't stand Bones and don't see the point of him at all. On reflection, I can see how the series depicts CJ's descent into mental health issues and how Georgie doesn't cope as well as she think. I think I would have liked something to bridge the gap between series 3 and 4 and explain what happened to CJ - even a comment in the psych evaluation bit where she says it was a mistake and he and his wife are patching things up would have done!

Happy to review series 4 and then maybe go back to series 1 to remember happier times.

Ilovelblue · 21/07/2020 22:41

Series 4, episode 1 next week then! Are you ok to miss a week though after that?

Rhu, I'm not entirely evil, it's just that the chances of of Fara/Thara/Tara coming through her experiences unscathed, far less alive are far worse than the chances of a SF captain surviving a mission. It is symptomatic of what was wrong with this series, which became much more apparent in the broccoli episodes. It began to turn into a soap opera rather than a drama series, with all these disasters, just like the air crash in Emmerdale, the wedding bloodbath in Dynasty (? wasn't it?), Bobby Ewing coming out of the shower in Dallas. That change was why we didn't like it, weren't convinced by the CJ development. Yeah, there was good stuff going on with 2 Section - Maisie and Rab, some banter with Monk, Fingers going for SF selection, but against that was everything else and when it came to the heart to heart between Georgie and Ruby, there was this huge sense of a box being ticked.
Rant over.

Magi84 · 22/07/2020 20:26

Couldn't have put it better eejit. My thinking exactly😅

Rhubarb01 · 28/07/2020 19:01

Evening everyone! Ready for series 4?

Will be interesting to view this without the muddle of Belize, Bangladesh and the other place I can't remember where Georgie got kidnapped again - there have been so many!

One thing made me chuckle this morning - I have a small rip-off desktop calendar which gives a quote - sometimes profound, sometimes stupid - but also a fact and today's fact was:

"On 28th July 1914 the Foxtrot was first danced at the New Amsterdam Roof Garden in New York."

Well, I'll reckon it wasn't quite the same as Elvis and Georgie's Foxtrot - that would certainly have drawn the crowds and probably landed them in jail! Grin

eejittwo · 28/07/2020 19:57

Just getting things sorted for parade. Like the quote - looks like we were a week early with our watchalong.

Ilovelblue · 28/07/2020 20:41

Yes, I'm ready. I did in fact have a sneak preview over the weekend as it was pouring with rain and there was nothing worth watching on television.
