E4 have been showing it in the evenings and you can watch all the seasons online on their catch up.

Oh the nostalgia.

I forgot how much I shipped Xander and willow!
Also, it really makes me wish I had friendhips like buffy does.

Who did you guys ship?
Oh and Angel, Spike or Reilly for buffy?
I'm team spike lol.

I think drewcilla was my favourite character of all, think she is just a great female villain.

I'm pretty sure DB was cast in the role entirely on the basis of what he looked like shirtless, rather than on any acting ability

Pretty much! DB was spotted on the street. I think he was walking his dog. He'd been spotted by the casting director a few times and was eventually approached to read for the role.

I'd forgotten about repressed the Irish accent...it was not good Confused

That explains a lot. He’s certainly not blessed with an impressive acting range!

I think I started to change my views on Spike, after he took one for the team with Glory.

MaxNormal · 18/07/2020 16:55

I've got a confession to make. I don't like Willow all that much. I had a recent binge and started to notice various things about her. She's disingenious, manipuliative, has a hugely judgemental streak but is a raging hypocrite with it, and is often a really bad friend to Buffy.
I love Anya and thought that Willow was spiteful and jealous towards her.

Yet I know that most people adore her (in some cases, to the point of naming their children after her!).

Is it just me? Am I a weirdo?

I liked her first time round, but she’s annoyingly me a bit this time. Not least that halting, little girl voice she does that is presumably meant to be ultra-cutesy but hasn’t fared well over time and now seems dreadfully infantilising.

I did hear that AH was a pass-agg mega-bitch, mind you, so maybe that’s colouring my judgement a little Grin

Quotes from season 5 or 6

Xander: "Anya, how about we try being a little bit less prejudiced and a bit more inclusive. Not us, just you."

Anya: "I was being patient but then it took too long."

Xander, following Tara's guiding light in the woods: "And how long have you known that your girlfriend's Tinkerbell?"

😂

swimkiwipanda · 18/07/2020 20:50

The scene when Willow is trying to decide what top to wear to Joyce's funeral is acting gold.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 18/07/2020 22:51

Anya's not understanding - "and no one will tell me why" - in The Body gets me every time. It's so raw and real.

Buffy was such a huge thing for me that I was a little bit broken when it came out that Joss Whedon is basically a dick. And the stuff about David Boreanaz and Nicholas Brendon too, but mostly the Joss Whedon stuff because he created Buffy and is meant to be a feminist ally. And essentially, he's just a dick like so many of the others and now when I think about Buffy it feels a little bit tainted. Like, you create this show which empowers girls and women, and then you cheat on your wife, sleep with your employees, and treat a pregnant woman terribly. Thanks for nothing.

Luckily, James Marsters is right there on his pedestal still - the guy can do no wrong.

We watched this episode tonight and I sobbed my eyes out at that bit. Sad

dudsville · 19/07/2020 00:17

I'm just part three fabulous episode when Willow returns from England, buffy has to kill Anya. I didn't realise that "Tahoflin" foretells Anya's death in that episode. I also loved the 3 foreshadowing of Dawn's appearance that a pp mentions upthread.

LadyFlumpalot · 19/07/2020 11:24

I've had to skip out most of season 5 in my rewatch (a recently deceased mother and Joyce's storyline do not a happy Flumpalot make) which is a shame as I genuinely enjoy Glory as a baddy.

I'm on the episodes where Willow meets Rack, her addiction is well played out and acted.

I'm remembering why I had such a big crush on Spike as a teenager, although now I'm older I'm
definitely cringing at some of the red flaggy manipulative behaviour he uses against her from the very start of their relationship "I'm in your system now, you'll crave me"

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/07/2020 11:46

I remember one of the female showrunners (Marti Noxon?) commenting that the whole point was how unhealthy the Buffy/Spike relationship was and that we weren't supposed to ship them like we did!

This is the comment I'm thinking of, I think - just had a quick google.

dudsville · 19/07/2020 15:30

Can anyone remember/guess where this quote comes from? "It eats you starting with your butt". I just got to this send couldn't stop laughing!!!!

Episode 1 or 2 of series 7 I think. It's Jonathan's translation of 'from beneath you it devours'.

Spike to Giles: “Your life flash before your eyes, did it? Cup of tea, cup of tea, nearly got shagged, cup of tea.’ 🤣

swimkiwipanda · 19/07/2020 19:13

I sobbed at the part where Buffy goes to Dawns school to break the news about Joyce. Sobbed.

Just got to the part where Willow goes very dark after Tara...so confused, I can't remember what happens next. It's not looking good for Willow.

swimkiwipanda · 19/07/2020 19:17

Lol i posted this thread weeks back and mumsnet seems to have decided it didnt want to tell me people were still replying xD

I admit I caved and binged the whole lot.

I cant help but think how creepy angel is. Like he was a grown (old) man talking about love at first sight, with a 16 year old girl none the less. And yet then all of a sudden he just seems to be over it. I used to think he was all tortured and brooding. Now I just think he's a bit of a fud xD no wonder spike didnt like him.

The gentleman episode was epic! And I kept replaying the singing episode at willows reaction to buffys solo!

Is it just me or did the ending feel like it could have done with with a bit more to it? Maybe the story continued in angel...

Recently heard a podcast with James Marsters and from what he said Joss Whedon was awful to him yet he would still happily work with him anytime!! He comes across as a nice grounded person and is very complimentary about Anthony Head/Giles. I have watched this show too many times. I also like Angel but I have never watched the ending of that show. I feel like if I don't then it isn't all over! I have sadly read some of the comics too Blush

swimkiwipanda · 21/07/2020 02:03

Apparently it was meant to be a 2 hour ending but they only ordered 22 episodes in error so the stories were a bit rushed in season 7?

I am struggling to get into season 7. Some good episodes at the start.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 21/07/2020 08:16

There are some great moments in Season 7 - Spike in the church, "Can we rest now?" - but the Potentials ruin it for me. Too many characters that we don't care that much about.

Binglebong · 21/07/2020 10:33

Just wanted to remind you all that James Marsters is in a couple of episodes of Torchwood. Which is currently available on iPlayer.Grin

BigBadVoodooHat · 21/07/2020 12:22

Just wanted to remind you all that James Marsters is in a couple of episodes of Torchwood.

I'm scared to watch in case I hate him in it and it tarnishes 'Spike' for me Grin

Binglebong · 21/07/2020 20:32

Nah, he's still Spike. Slightly psychotic with a lost puppy look. Hair isn't bleached but he still has a signature, if different, coat.

swimkiwipanda · 22/07/2020 01:00

Bit more into season 7 now. The church episode was good.
