What crap are your DC obsessed with on you tube?

rosybell · 01/05/2020 07:52

Ok, so my DC are 6 & 8 and simply will not watch anything other than you tube. Mainly Unspeakable (kind of harmless but annoying American prankster guy) plus just watching people like Stampy/Preston/Jelly play computer games , eg minecraft.

Its driving me mad, so every other day you tube is banned but this just leads to moaning and fuss, so I find myself feeling glad when it's a you tube day just for the peace!

So, I'm looking for tips on good TV shows to help my DC get back into stories or just watching something that takes a bit of investment and concentration. Have had some success with Steve Backshall deadly 60/ Henry Danger/ walking with dinosaurs.

My two are gripped by BBC Merlin currently. All 5 series are available on iPlayer. It has magic, talking dragon, peril, sword fighting but no gore, strong women, scary (but the on right side of fun), humour... Loads of appeal. And for me the lead actor is lush so... Grin

Used to be Stacey and Casey, life hacks, people playing Minecraft, Insertnameofcountry Has Got Talent. In the end we locked YouTube including KidsTube.

SistemaAddict · 17/07/2020 19:54

I've removed the firestick and had a YouTube nonsense free day. Bliss!

nevermorelenore · 20/07/2020 08:54

Blippi creeps me out because he used to be a disgusting internet comedian.

Stevin John started making gross out videos in 2013 under the persona of Steezy Grossman, a boy born as poop.[7] Under his Steezy Grossman alias, John developed videos such as "Turdboy" and "Underwear Man". In a 2013 video John performed the Harlem shake on a toilet and defecated on a naked friend.[7][3] When the video was unearthed by Buzzfeed in 2019, John said, "at the time, I thought this sort of thing was funny, but really it was stupid and tasteless, and I regret having ever done it."[8] John used DMCA takedown notices to remove the video from social media and internet search engines.

My kids watch some right crap like Baby Ronnie and LouLou Kids. Cheap CGI and repetitive songs. Trying to wean them onto CBeebies a bit more as at least it's educational.

Norris Nuts is the latest discovery for DD7. She also like Elsia & Ania. Before lockdown I’d banned YouTube because I hate everything on it. I backed down pretty fast!
Although watching the Norris Nuts over involved mother giving them $1000 for doing their bloody stupid challenges makes me stabby, so I’ve restricted YouTube use to 1 hour a day now.
Both DDs watching an American family doing challenges which involved trying not to drop newish iPhones off of buildings & getting a brand new iPhones as a reward was the final straw!!!

spiderlight · 20/07/2020 14:32

Mine is 13 and is on a constant YouTube diet of Seth's Bike Hacks, The King of Random, Electroboom, MentourPilot, Half Asleep Chris (who is very sweet) and some guy taking iPods to bits. He also watches a lot of documentaries about aviation and travel. Very very glad the Stampy/DanTDM days are behind us!

SistemaAddict · 20/07/2020 15:08

Ds is 5 and I've removed the firestick and devices but he has the tv and was watching some WW2 thing about weapons or tanks or something. I had to record it for him otherwise he wouldn't come up for a shower. He was fascinated.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 20/07/2020 21:52

Dan TDM (harmless)
Colin Furze (I’d HATE to live next door to him)
Jelly (TOO BLOODY SHOUTY)
Dude Perfect (bunch of overgrown frat boys with zero understanding of waste reduction. ALSO TOO BLOODY SHOUTY especially the beardy one)

How? How did you lock it??

I banned Ryan and his whiney 'mom', but kind of wish we could go back to opening surprise eggs, because now I feel like my house is full of shouty American teenagers doing stupid challenges! Also, ds has limits on how long he is allowed to play fortnite for, but then he just binges on videos of other people playing fortnite. It's just all complete garbage! And another thing.... He keeps clicking on 'subscribe', logged in as me of course, so now I'm getting loads of notifications about someone I don't want to watch uploading a new episode of 'last person to take their hand off the table wins $10,000'.

Phew, it felt good to get that off my chest.

Overmylimit · 21/07/2020 00:03

Ania and Elsia, I think she has seen every single one, dear lord. I try and encourage her to watch actual programmes instead as YouTube does my head in and I can just about stand some of the programmes, plus they seem to have more of a definite end whereas youtube never ends does it!

Patienceisvirtuous · 21/07/2020 00:15

Simon!
Morphle
Diana and Roma 😑
Those colour things with the animals going into the troughs
Avengers Toys
Surprise eggs
Blippi

Our DD is still too tiny for YouTube but DH and I use YouTube as our main sources of entertainment. I really recommend Scishow and it's iterations for ages 8-onwards! Jay foreman also has an amazing series of videos specifically for children on his channel (just watch with, as the playlist is relatively short and some of his songs might not be tiny child friendly. Luckily, he's very entertaining, witty and funny. I especially recommend his Map Men series for kids).

DH watches minus tech tips every day as as informative as he is, I cannot stand his bloomin voice. It graaaaaaaates...

TheKrakening3 · 28/07/2020 04:04

Minecraft videos here. Jelly, I don’t know who you are or where you are from but fuck you.

pepperycinnamon · 28/07/2020 04:08

Ozzy man reviews is a big hit here.

Of course, I always say pre-watch! What I might personally find ok might not be for your family, now I think about it one of the map men episodes might have Jay dressed with a willy on his head briefly, so just check first!

Tom Scott is also fantastic for teens, Electroboom, Extra Credits is also absolutely AMAZING for subjects such as game theory, history, literature, science and mythology, with a lovely easy to follow animatic layout.

Boredsilly · 28/07/2020 14:08

My 8 DD loves Leah Ash, The Lebrants, Carly HD, Fisher Fam and she drives me up the wall with it specially as she is at home with me all day whilst I'm working. I do try to get her to watch more films or children's tv but she just doesn't seem interested!

wellerhugs5 · 28/07/2020 14:25

@inwood
I am in the same boat with my 7yo. The change in her attitude is astounding. And she only wants to watch idiots other people paying sodding Roblox!!!

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 28/07/2020 14:36

Game walkthroughs. She doesn't play any games (don't have a console). Very annoying... she's obsessed. We can't understand the appeal!
Also, a channel called Life Hacks For Kids. Mostly consists of cutting things up - clothes, card, etc, & usings lots of glitter, glue guns & expensive craft equipment.

blamethecat · 28/07/2020 22:22

Bloody Minecraft videos, I managed to block stampy's channel and the bloody squeaky voiced duck one, but this week he's found one who is playing as sonic and does ALL the voices himself. Makes me want to stab myself in the ears.
DanTDM is far easier on the ears.
He'll also watch pets being silly, mainly cats 🐈 which I can happily watch.
Try to keep the time down but the rubbish weather isn't helping.

TheClitterati · 28/07/2020 22:29

It's all about the Norris Nuts at ours.

ginandgingers92 · 28/07/2020 22:35

Fucking Blippi... and those weird computer generated ones of cars driving into pools of
paint and changing colour. Ugh.

SugarHour · 28/07/2020 22:39

Unspeakable here too Hmm and various hangers on of his like Paxton (?)
Game Theory
DanTDM
Project Zorgo (?) or at least people who ho on about it

Thank goodness the Infinite List phase is over here, he was awful.

SionnachRua · 28/07/2020 22:39

I banned any mention of the Norris Nuts in my class last year (9-10 years old). They couldn't chat about them all they like at break but I couldn't bear the endless debates about who was most like Socky etc, it always ended in a fight. God love you parents, I don't know how you put up with it.

Drogonssmile · 28/07/2020 22:40

Preston and unspeakable unbearable here too for the 7 year old.

4 year old likes Blippi (I'm an excavatorrrr anyone?) and Steve and Maggie.

All horrendous and the reason I wear my noise cancelling headphones around the house.

SugarHour · 28/07/2020 22:44

Blippi sufferers, did you know before he did kids' stuff he did gross/prank videos including one where he shat on someone?!
www.buzzfeednews.com/article/katienotopoulos/blippi-youtube-kids-star-harlem-shake-poop

Also reading this reminded me DS has also gone through a Flamingo phase. So screechy, and seemed to do stupid trolling shit all day long.
