We have been discussing Our Girl from the first series back in 2014 and are now on thread 55!

ID Card!!

Delphin · 23/04/2020 21:54

@Rhubarb01
Apparently American soldiers are not allowed to drink at all on deployment, in contrast to the 2-bottle reg for German soldiers for example. So if he wants the taste of beer, he has to buy "unleaded"...

Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 21:54

So, does "Omar" recognise Elvis or not??

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2020 21:55

Will the non alcoholic beer just be because they're not allowed to drink on the base?

Georgie and Prof manage to get to see Omar whilst pretending to be US soldiers as Georgie has stolen Antonio's ID badge.

ooh Delphin and there was I thinking I'd uncovered a devious little plot clue Grin My middle name is Marple...not!

So which one is the boss? The true Omar - Is it the jokey, older one?

eejittwo · 23/04/2020 21:59

I wonder - is that disappearing to get a bottle opener deliberate? Did he knowingly leave the folder where she could see it? The final shot of him as she leaves does not betray any form of disappointment.

Delphin · 23/04/2020 22:01

Sewing bee! Oops, wrong show...
I think Zarek (the oldest of the three Afghan soldiers) is the real Omar. It was pretty clear after the exchange outside the mess hall, with the other two getting into fisticuffs.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 23/04/2020 22:01

🤞that dr dishy is a goodie
I want to cheesey's back story and where Mimi stands in it.
Can't make up my mind about throbber

Delphin · 23/04/2020 22:09

We haven't seen anything of the three SF troopers. Will they show up next week? Couldn't spot them in the preview.

Ilovelblue · 23/04/2020 22:14

Very tense ending.

I am definitely looking forward to next Tuesday.

I think I said earlier in the week but I don't think I'll have withdrawal symptoms after this series finishes. Certainly not like series one or after Elvis was blown up.

Delphin I read on the internet this morning somewhere that Mark Amstrong (who plays Spanner) had said they were only in episodes 2 and 3.

OP posts:
eejittwo · 23/04/2020 22:19

Pity if we don't see Blue again and Spanner. Surely we should find out if Jackson is recovered?

Rhubarb01 · 23/04/2020 22:24

It would be a shame if they're not in it, but I've enjoyed their involvement this series.

Yes, looking forward to the conclusion. It's been a good series.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 24/04/2020 14:28

I would like to see Blue again at least.

Throbber is definitely the youngest in the section. He's probably only meant to be 18/19 and by the way Kingy spoke when he had him in for a bollocking, it's his first tour. My guess is that Mitzi is a small Staff who sits on people's feet. The only dangerous thing about her is her farts.

I thought at the beginning of the series that Throbber was going to redeem himself by dying heroically in order to save one or more of the others, but I'm not sure now. Horrible old Cheese might cop it.

The care theory about Mimi and Cheese is an interesting one. Didn't he say something about someone finding out about who her dad is in one of their nasty exchanges?

Ilovelblue · 28/04/2020 10:04

Morning all. Are we all tuning in at 9pm tonight? At least our theories about who the rwal Omar is will be revealed and what Mimi's background is.

I will miss it next week. It's been an oasis in a desert of repeat TV programmes for the past 6 weeks.

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 28/04/2020 10:07

SmallClanger as a child, I had a large cuddly St Bernard stuffed toy called Mitzi, so for me Throbber's dog has to be cute and cuddly!

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 28/04/2020 10:07

real

Rhubarb01 · 28/04/2020 17:00

Afternoon everyone - yes I'm looking forward to the final episode and a few explanations. I'm just hoping I'm able to watch it at 9pm. My company system has been down for hours and I have to finish something today without fail, so I'm sitting about waiting for it to "come back to me" - just wish it was as attractive as CJ!

So what are our predictions for tonight?

Older Afghan soldier is really Omar?
Dr Dishy is a good guy, and perhaps a future for Georgie when she has come to terms with her grief?
Mimi had a dodgy past life - crime or abuse, or a series of unsuccessful foster homes?
Throbber is a big softie who loves his Nan and Mitzi the poodle!
Cheese - I don't want to know how he got that name - is a bully who finally gets put in his place?
Monk - gets back to Thumper and Doris, now a changed man?
Lt Hurst's Dad tells him he loves him?
Kingy gets his reward for being an all round good guy?
Prof's ex wife comes back to him after ditching the Head of Geography?

And Georgie...does she make a fateful decision about the army or will we never know what she plans to do? Perhaps she will just cast us an enigmatic smile and a walk into the sunset......

Magi84 · 28/04/2020 18:58

Rhu I think we might need a whole other series to answer all those intriguing questions you pose. Can't see them doing it an hour. 😄

kazzaD66 · 28/04/2020 19:07

Rhu Grin I haven't even watched this series but.....Grin

Louise0701 · 28/04/2020 19:21

Hi all, never posted but have followed your thread. I’ve loved this series. I think older afghan soldier is the real Omar, I think it gave it away with the other 2 fighting last week. I too agree with a pp that Mimi and cheese were in care together and she had a bit of a reputation for one thing or another. Possibly criminal or can one not join the armed forces with a record?
Looking forward to tonight!

PaperDreamsHoney · 28/04/2020 20:18

De-lurking too! I had also been thinking that perhaps Mimi and Cheese were in care together or similar. I think Omar is the one who used to be in Eastenders - not sure if that's the same one everyone else is thinking of!

Ilovelblue · 28/04/2020 21:01

Hi to Louise and PaperDreams. We'll be having a proper watchalong on Thursday if you want to join us and a quick discussion after 10pm tonight.

It's just starting now.

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 28/04/2020 22:00

Ah, that was a really great final episode. Echos of series 1 in it and the door was left open for Georgie to return if MK wants to come back.

We were right about Mimi! And I was right that Prof fancied Georgie! I'm glad the Brig got put in his place. He was a pompous pratt. Surprised Kingy and Hurst got away with insubordination though.

What does everyone else think?

PapsofJura · 28/04/2020 22:01

Ooft what an episode, really enjoyed it. And the ending felt right.
