It's a three part drama about the Who Wants to be a Millionaire coughing scandal in 2001.

Anyone else planning on watching it?

The actors in it don't usually do rubbish, but I'm not sure I care that much about the story.

Expect I will watch though

topcat2014 · 13/04/2020 08:48

Just seen it was nine years ago!

JudyCoolibar · 13/04/2020 09:59

I'm already annoyed by the trailer with the prosecution barrister walking up and down in front of the jury. It just doesn't happen in English courts. How difficult is it to get these things right, FFS?

southeastdweller · 13/04/2020 20:40

Twenty minutes to go bump.

Enjoying it so far - bit slow, but they have to set the scene. It was 19 years ago btw, not 9!!!

If anyone's interested in the actual WWTBAM episode with Charles Ingram.

Pelleas · 13/04/2020 21:19

Yes, it's slow to get going and the impromptu G&S performance was a bit cringeworthy. Sticking with it though.

Pelleas · 13/04/2020 21:43

Obviously written by someone who doesn't realise the internet was well established in the late 90s. They wouldn't need a syndicate - just someone with a search engine.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 13/04/2020 21:45

Really liking it. It's got legs

The80sweregreat · 13/04/2020 21:51

I thought someone from ITV sat with the phone a friend person? Or was that brought in after this scandal?
The Internet was not as good then as it is today. It was dial up which was very slow.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 13/04/2020 21:58

You weren't able to google an answer in 30 seconds

I can't the fact that Charles Ingram was mr Darcey

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/04/2020 22:09

The bloke playing Chris Tarrant was brilliant.
Also the women who played the part of Diana Ingram was the double of her.
Wasn’t sure if it a first but I really enjoyed it in the end.

Clawdy · 13/04/2020 22:11

It's entertaining and funny, and that syndicate storyline is fascinating! Michael Sheen is always brilliant, but his portrayal of Tarrant is uncannily real.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 13/04/2020 22:15

I remember it when it was in the news but I was still a youngish teenager I think so don't recall the ins and outs of it.

Like that whole syndicate thing. I think it was only the friend and a member of the production crew in a room after this saga

southeastdweller · 13/04/2020 22:15

There was the odd moment of a second or two tonight when Michael Sheen was featured where I thought I was seeing the real Chris Tarrant.

OP posts:
RapunzelinQuarantine · 13/04/2020 22:20

I thought it was brilliant! Totally unexpected. I didn’t know about the Syndicate and I liked seeing how the show was developed and all the behind the scenes stuff.

Not normally a fan of Matthew M but will make sure to tune in for the next two eps.

topcat2014 · 13/04/2020 22:22

So it was ok then? Might watch on catch up

RaynaJaymes · 13/04/2020 22:28

This was unexpectedly really enjoyable.
Michael Sheen was uncanny

Scrapper142 · 13/04/2020 22:43

Hope there's more Michael Sheen in next one.

The women with the Cornwall question I remember watching. As soon as that bit started I thought of her, so glad they used the original clip rather than trying to recreate it. Forgot how huge it was at the time and not surprised they chose that moment to emphasize it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/04/2020 22:45

Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next part tomorrow!

TheReluctantCountess · 13/04/2020 22:49

It was excellent, and the time flew by. I’m looking forward to part two.

FlyingPandas · 13/04/2020 23:02

Wasn’t sure what to expect, but really enjoyed it, will definitely tune in again tomorrow.

Michael Sheen is amazing. His performance is almost spookily good!

Janaih · 13/04/2020 23:10

Very enjoyable watch, and eerie timing considering we are all up to our eyes in quizzes at the moment.

Didnt know about the syndicate, but I've often recognised people on quiz shows from other quiz shows!

Pippin2028 · 13/04/2020 23:14

I really enjoyed it, I was little when WWTBAM was on but i loved watching it and I vaguely remember the coughing scandal but never really knew the full story. I am looking forward to the next episodes and think I will have to do some Googling about this case. Cast was great as well.

eddiemairswife · 13/04/2020 23:21

Michael Sheen is so good at acting many characters that in real life look nothing like each other.
