No tennis never bothered us before so why change now? TennisGrin

I keep laughing to myself about Rafa's slightly panicked expression while he was waiting for Roger to join the chat Grin

Iconic Grin

Roger was funny as well though. The atp tweeted about whether everyone enjoyed the chat, and Fed replied something like yes once we got it working! Both seemed so relieved!

Starks it was the highlight of my day as well!

Fizzywinegum · 21/04/2020 08:48

I think it’s probably going to be the highlight of my week (can’t see anything much more exciting happening in the next few weeks tbh Grin)

I didn’t realise that there was hair history between Roger and Andy Starks - I wonder if Djok is against all vaccinations or just the corona one? I think I can guess.

I think Rafa needs to practise his Insta tech rather than spending all that time on his PlayStation.

I thought it was funny when Andy told Rafa not to phone him too late because he had to get up at 6am with the kids Grin

magimedi · 21/04/2020 09:31

Starks You gluten comment had me Grin

Private You were up late!!

I reckon Rafa will be a Dad before too long!

Off for a walk - lovely day here but strong, cold NE wind.

Raahh · 21/04/2020 09:41

I woke up today, convinced it was Sunday. I mean it might as well be. Grin

I am trying to get dd2 to do some school work. Her school are apparently calling all parents to see how we are. She hasn't exactly done much in the way of school work (and she does lots when she is actually in schoolGrin), I'm not worried though. I will tell them she has become a wildlife expert. Ties in quite nicely with their topic this half term which is rivers and the water cycle. Grin.

I do think Andy looked different- and I think he is just more relaxed. No-one can pester him over when he is returning now- because nobody isGrin. Must be a massive relief for him, in a way, how ever much he wants to play.

magimedi · 21/04/2020 13:08

And yet more evidence of Djock being a total & utter irresponsible fruit loop.

www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2020/apr/20/no-vaxx-djokovic-why-his-spiritual-world-view-can-have-a-dangerous-side

I knew there was a reason why I disliked him so much!!

Raahh · 21/04/2020 13:28

He needs a reality check. Sadly, it looks like Jelena also gets sucked in by his batshit ideals. And, as the srticle says, he is one of the most famous people in Serbia- they love him. If he decides to tell the masses that a vaccine is a bad idea, it could have serious consequences.

JaneJeffer · 21/04/2020 14:03

There was a funny reply to someone's comment on The Journal saying they wouldn't get a vaccine the other day. They were told it would be automatically transmitted to them by 5G. Maybe we should tell Novak the same Grin

That’s a really interesting article magi - I knew that Djok lived a slightly alternative way of life with his diet etc but I hadn’t realised how odd (or dangerous) some of his views were. That’s pretty scary. As you say Raahh he’s pretty influential in Serbia so what he’s saying could be dangerous.

I prefer Andy’s response to what he does first thing in a morning Grin

Raahh · 21/04/2020 14:13

Yes, Andy's reply was much better Grin.

Raahh · 22/04/2020 13:37

Kilt

See what lockdown is doing - it is turning me into an Andy fan. Off court anyway Wink.

Fizzywinegum · 22/04/2020 13:42

Grin Raahh

That’s cute! I like Andy anyway but agree he is better off court than on (can’t be doing with all his moaning!)

Fizzywinegum · 22/04/2020 15:51

Roger’s saying that now is the time to bring together the organisations that run men and women’s tennis. Rafa agrees with him and a few others including Halep.

It would seem to make sense - would there be any disadvantages? My brain isn’t working very well today Smile

PrivateSpidey · 22/04/2020 16:00

I was just about to post about the male GOATs' conversation Grin

Extremely interesting: "As per our discussion"...

Haven't seen anything from Novak on it yet Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 22/04/2020 16:06

I wonder if Djok is feeling a bit left out?

I think he has put forward a proposal for higher ranked players to support lower ranked players on a sliding scale. There was some discussion about it on this weeks Tennis Podcast - not sure if it’s gone down too well.

They were also talking about a proposed tournament in May organised by Patrick M (don’t know how to spell his name). Benoit Paire is due to play and they were laughing and saying that he needed the money for beard maintenance Grin

Fizzywinegum · 22/04/2020 16:08

Patrick Mouratoglou (Serena’s coach)

PrivateSpidey · 22/04/2020 16:16

BJK said she agrees with Rafa and Roger's idea so it must be ok Grin Quite a few of the women players have tweeted agreement as well.

Am in the middle of making a cake for DH birthday (sadly not the bisquit cake Sad) so can't post properly yet but I can't think of any downsides either Fizzy.

The main benefit for fans surely would be all tour matches men's and women's would have to be shown by the same channel, they couldn't divvy it up any more, which would be good.

I think Amazon has WTA as well now doesn't it but it seems so long since I watched any tennis I can't remember Confused

Fizzywinegum · 22/04/2020 17:28

Good luck with the cake Spidey

Starksforthewin · 22/04/2020 18:56

This might be controversial and comes with all the usual caveats, but I’ve always had the feeling that Djokovic is a somewhat ‘controlling’ husband to Jelena. His father comes across as very aggressive and controlling, so maybe the apple didn’t fall far from the tree?
I was pondering this given the subject of vaccination, and wondering if Jelena is allowed her own view?

On to more pleasant musings, I would also put money on Rafa becoming a father soon. He was really beaming when Andy was teasing him about it. His English is phenomenal now, even compared to just a few years ago.

I’m a little on the fence about the Men’s/Women’s tours joining up. I know at Wimbledon, the ladies match is usually seen as lunch/tea/loo break opportunity.
I love the Men’s game, and would watch and enjoy any match, but there are fewer female players I would actively want to see. Serena, I would actively not bother sitting in the court!
Then you have the constant drone about parity of court allocation when the tours collide at the Slams.
On the other hand, a joint administrative body could make sense, releasing funds back to players and the grass roots, and also offering a more powerful negotiating position with the tournaments.
I agree also with PP on the need for so many different subscriptions to watch tennis. Any improvement on that situation would be most welcome.
I am really missing tennis, and the thought of not being at Queens and Wimbledon is horrible.

JaneJeffer · 22/04/2020 19:43

there are fewer female players I would actively want to see

I'll have to disagree with you on that one Starks.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 22/04/2020 20:15

I must admit I’m not a great fan of women’s tennis either but I do think they are short changed in terms of scheduling etc. Bringing the two bodies together would probably give women tennis players a bigger say in things.

I don’t know if Djok is controlling in his marriage but there is something that doesn’t sit quite right with me about him - the way that he treats ball kids at tournaments can sometimes be a bit off and then he does the phoney heart thing when he wins a match - I just can’t warm to him.

I also thought that Rafa looked a bit gooey eyed when Andy mentioned children - I’m sure they would be very cute Smile. Although he did say that he would only have children when he was no longer touring - although I guess he’s not touring now ...

I’m also missing tennis - I usually really enjoy the clay court season Sad

Raahh · 22/04/2020 20:22

I am really missing the clay season, it is my favourite. I had a half thought that maybe, just maybe Xisca was already pg- I mean she hasn't been seen for months (she doesn't tend to go on tour with him anyway). I'd love that. I mean, he supposedly said he wouldn't tour, if he he had children. But everyone can change their mind Grin.

I quite like that that there are a few players that currently have new babies (Khachanov, Cilic, Murray to name 3) who might not have had the chance to spend much time with them, but now can.

Raahh · 22/04/2020 20:31

I prefer watching the men to the women, too- although there are a number of female players I really like, and am always keen to do well. Halep, for example, and Kvitova. I love Ash Barty, she is a breath of fresh air. I was glad that Wozniacki chose to retire on her terms, and didn't prolong her career to suit sponsors or other people. She had achieved what she wanted.

Raahh · 22/04/2020 20:33

Just typing that makes the Australian open seem soooooo long ago Sad

JaneJeffer · 22/04/2020 20:40

It was disappointing that all the women's matches in Australia were scheduled at a time which meant we barely saw them.

OP posts:
Raahh · 22/04/2020 20:43

This year seemed very different to last year , Jane because I saw quite a few women's matches in 2019. I'm not sure what changed.
