Sad Knowing it's not going to happen doesn't make it any easier when it's officially announced. Apparently, they didn't have to decide until the end of April. That's the whole of the grass court season cancelled now Sad

DH and I went for a lovely walk around the village this morning when it was still warm and sunny. Popped into the village farm shop on the way past - literally, an old poultry farm and animal and equine supplies place in some old outbuildings, but they now have plenty of fresh (mainly British) produce, including some milk. They even had Jersey Royals!

magimedi · 01/04/2020 17:49

Eastbourne tennis has also been cancelled - suspect thye were waiting for Wimbledon to announce first.

I'm sure we''ll all keep chatting until we get Tennis again - bloody well hope so, you lot are a place of sense, fun & soothing atm.

And I'll stop being nice now - in case it worries you too much.

Sahll I cheer you all up with a picture??? Grin

Raahh · 01/04/2020 18:05

I saw an announcement from the ATP/WTA that the season is cancelled until July 13th- basically the end of Wimbledon (at least).

I'm sure we will find something to talk about in the meantime.

Magi no pictures Grin.

PrivateSpidey · 01/04/2020 18:36
Grin magi we may be desperate, but we are not that desperate yet
PrivateSpidey · 01/04/2020 18:40

Do you reckon Christy has already made all the 2020 towels?? What will they do with them if so??

JaneJeffer · 01/04/2020 18:45

magi you made me LOL Grin

Private I saw Bethanie Mattek-Sands on instagram with her collection of Wimbledon towels today.

Raahh · 01/04/2020 19:02

I don't mind a 2020 towel at discount . Can you imagine? Would be a real collectors item that.

I bet Tim has them all in his loft.

Raahh I was thinking that. Like one of those priceless stamps with a mistake on it Grin

Come on Tim! Where are the towels?!

Raahh · 01/04/2020 19:42

We thought we had a rare 50p the other day. DD1 is quite obsessed by 50ps. It was a Beijing 2008 one. Worth about £10.

Grin
Raahh · 01/04/2020 19:44

It would be quite cool if (after this situation has calmed down a bit) Wimbledon auctioned of the towels or something. I bet they could make quite a bit for charity.

kazzaD66 · 01/04/2020 20:35

None of THOSE photos magi !

Listening to Radio 2 six o'clock news. Guess who the talking head was for the Wimbledon story Hmm
The only consolation in all of this is a summer without the butterfly fancier Grin

PrivateSpidey · 01/04/2020 21:25

Grin they obviously arranged for AC to be on just for you kazza

Raahh I also love special 50ps! I don't know why, I just like them Blush I have got the Sherlock Holmes one, that's my favourite.

Fizzy I tried to order some James Bond stamps online earlier (to use on letters I mean, not as collector's items) but they were sold out!!

Fizzywinegum · 01/04/2020 21:49

Spidey I can’t believe that about the James Bond stamps - I bet my DM threw hers away Shock

The woman behind me just got a bog standard first class stamp - the post office woman must have earmarked me as a special Daniel Craig fan Grin

Oh no - I’d forgotten that AC would probably be wheeled out as the expert on all things Wimbledon - we need Tim - we know he’s really in charge! (I bet he sorted out the insurance policy which means that Wimbledon won’t be out of pocket!)

magimedi · 02/04/2020 09:56

From BBC:

"The All England Club had the foresight to take out insurance policies which will shield them from eye-watering losses. They will therefore be able to refund ticket holders, broadcast partners and sponsors - a bill which, even according to conservative estimates, will top £200m."

Bet Tim was at the forefront of getting that insurance - I bet he's terribly sensible.

Washing about to go out & about to roast some veggies for tonight & DH will then start his bread & we'll have our walk. I have to get up & get going in the mornings or I just get very down.

kazzaD66 · 02/04/2020 10:05

I prepared myself for the seven o'clock news, when they introduced the Wimbledon story talking head as "a former British no. 1 player and commentator".........

But, to my relief, it was another AC.
Annabel Croft.
I hadn't twigged until now that they have the same initials Grin

kazzaD66 · 02/04/2020 10:09

Sounds good magi
It's starting to brighten up here. I've got the washing machine on at the moment, so hopefully I can get that on the line and then go out for a walk aswell. It would be nice to get DS out but he's still in bed Hmm

Fizzywinegum · 02/04/2020 11:09

It started off bright here but it’s raining now Hmm

The female AC talks more sense than the male AC kazza

I’m sure that Bank Manager Tim was at the forefront of sorting out Wimbledon’s insurance policy magi Grin.

Enjoy your walk - my walks havent been going too well recently - it’s been really cold. Might go at lunchtime - I agree it’s best to get up and get going.

JaneJeffer · 02/04/2020 11:15

Good old Tim saves the day Grin

Funny about the Beeb's favourite former No. 1's having the same initials. Andrew's middle name is Nicholas and Annabel's is Nicola Shock

No washing out here. It's raining and very overcast.

That sounds like an Enid Blyton adventure story!!

Except with insurance instead of smugglers and gold ingots and lashings of ginger beer Grin Maybe not quite as exciting.

I'm glad they're honouring people's tickets for next year. That seems like the right thing to do.

I was a bit down this morning, the Wimbledon cancellation just really threw me, thinking how long it is until tennis is back, etc and I just went from there! I did get a slight grip afterwards but still feel like I need someone to give me a shake and tell me to buck up Grin (again in the style of Enid Blyton)!

That's so funny about the two ACs, it never occurred to me before! Is that true about their middle names Jane?! Grin

Fizzywinegum · 02/04/2020 12:08

The Wimbledon thing made me a bit wobbly yesterday Spidey - I know it’s a relatively small thing compared to everything else that’s going on but yes it threw me as well. Hope you’re ok today Flowers

Yes maybe we need to take a leaf out of Enid Blyton’s book - with lashings of gin instead of ginger beer Grin

magimedi · 02/04/2020 12:13

Yes, I had a bit of a down & sob when I heard about Wimbledon. Silly, but totally understndable atm.

My Tennis mad neighbour tells me you can still but Wimbledon 2020 towels & reckons they will be real collectors items in 100 years time!!

Raahh · 02/04/2020 12:53

lashings of gin Gin sounds like a plan.

Not too early is it? I have no idea what time or what day it is.

I was convinced yesterday was Saturday. Not that it mattered whether it was or not Grin.

magimedi · 02/04/2020 13:20

It is never too early for Gin.
