I loved this show last year and was very excited to see a trailer yesterday that seemed to show series 2 was coming soon and was located in the Americas? But Googling it has revealed absolutely nothing! I thought I'd start this thread so that fellow fans have a place to comment when we have more info.

If it is the Americas, it will stop the contestants just copying last year's journeys, although I must admit I think the Europe/Asia route will prove more interesting as there's such a great variation in cultures as you travel east. But I don't know much about South America so looking forward to being wrong, and I'm sure it will be just as exciting as the last series. It'll be the people that make it - loved Darron and Alex from last year and their changing relationship/bond!

I have certainly, ahem, 'noticed' Jamil over the last few episodes too.

The sibs begging was absolutely cringe - I couldn't believe it. The way they approach people is just so awkward and the polar opposite of Emon and Jamil, who are great at talking to locals to help their journey.

What strikes me about this series compared to the first one is just how low everyone's budget has sunk. Whereas last time their budget determined whether or not they took the quicker route, this time it seems possible that multiple teams won't even make it to the end! Not sure if that's on them or whether this geographical location is just harder.

PS I like Jen and I was really chuffed for them winning this leg!

I think zigzagging backwards and forwards has killed it, the fact they're all struggling says alot. It will a pants finale if Sam and Jo and Jamil and his uncle pull out

Bunnybigears · 19/04/2020 23:11

I'm not surprised the couple thought the sibs just wanted help with buying the ticket as in talking to the vendor not actually paying for it they didnt explain themselves at all.

I like that Sam and his Mum are staying with families and working and eating with them, they will probably be getting the most authentic experience

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 19/04/2020 23:21

That begging at the bus station was cringe.

I think Sam and his mum might not make it as they've run out of cash

Not enough is made on how much they spend on food and water bottles etc

megletthesecond · 19/04/2020 23:28

I dont think Sam and Jo will be that gutted if they miss out. She got to groom the horses and he went surfing in Brazil.

The lure of a proper nice hotel for 36hrs must keep their spirits up. I'd eat my own body weight in continental breakfast and refuse to move from the shower.

ThursdayLastWeek · 19/04/2020 23:28

I love Jen and rob!
And like a pp I see a lot of myself and DH in them (and I think I am as annoying as Jen - gotta vocalise every feeling man)

We were shooting at the TV 'just spend your money!'

I wonder if patient mum is a little too patient sometimes.

theschoolonthehill · 20/04/2020 00:58

The begging for a bus ticket was embarrassing as they looked like spoilt kids on a gap year but I liked Dom's self awareness when they were cleaning the boat about how he feels disappointed that he hasn't achieved much in life and is looking forward to going home and not being so reliant on his parents.

I got annoyed when Jo was admiring the horse on the ranch and the horse trainer said 'yes its beautiful but you are here to work'. Somehow I think if Jo was younger or looked like the sister, he wouldn't have spoken to her like that. I am aware he didn't know anything about her but there was just no need for it.

Jen and Rob got on a lot better during that leg. The uncle is able to turn his hand to anything and knows how to talk to people without annoying them. It has served him well during this trip. Its a skill that is hard to learn.

SleepingStandingUp · 20/04/2020 01:03

Shame it isn't live, I'd happily donate a fiver to get Jo and Sam one more step along.

Tbh the you're here to work I just put down to a bit of cultural brusquness, rather than because she's an older woman.

Gah, I just want the nice family they're with to overpay them and get them on to the next leg so they can work travel work travel their way to the end, even if they're last and 5 days late

BeaLola · 20/04/2020 01:21

As long as the 2 siblings don't win our house will be happy. I think that as an earlier poster said the fact that they are all so low on budget shows how difficult it has been - last series people took cheap buses compared to expensive trains etc & the differing costs of transport really showed.

Having never been to S America I would liker it if they showed costs of food & drink etc - Jen & husband have done quite a bit of sightseeing & paid out for things but have the most money. I expect Sam eats the most - my 12 year old has hollow legs .

theschoolonthehill · 20/04/2020 01:39

Sam wouldn't travel on local buses, instead they took expensive aircon overnight buses, did lots of 'daytrips' and generally spent their money on treating Sam like a tourist on holiday during the last leg.

I'm not at all surprised they have so little left. I'm sure Jo isn't surprised either. She had a good handle on the budget. Even her 'wish' to see a ranch was so they could work, she hasn't done anything for herself. They never even show her eating. Has anyone noticed she has amazing legs? She'd be there already if it was up to her but the whole point of the trip was to spend quality time together and they have done that.

The siblings are ok. I don't care which couple win tbh. I'm enjoying it so much and am sad that next week is the last one.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 20/04/2020 06:50

It’s my favourite programme.

BovvyDazz · 20/04/2020 07:01

I’m in awe of Jo. She is an amazing lady; clear headed; bright; and so caring of Sam. Sam is just a child really; hopefully with Jo as guide he’ll mature over the next few years. I was really sorry to hear about her cancer diagnosis; I hope she has many good years still to come to look after herself and put herself first.
Rob seems a lovely fellow... I’m not enamored with his wife though so I’m team Uncle/Nephew for the win.

professorbean · 20/04/2020 07:37

Sam has learning difficulties, I think she's great with him and understands him and how to get the best out of him. They've sacrificed winning to have the best experience and that's fine.

It was telling when Lizzie said how much she was encouraged by Jo too, I think she's just a nurturing person, ah I really like her!

Why didn't Dom snog that girl!

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 20/04/2020 08:05

I believe “kiss” may have been a euphemism.

purpleme12 · 20/04/2020 08:15

Lol yes i think it might have been a euphemism too!

professorbean · 20/04/2020 08:15

Oh of course GrinBlush

Whitney168 · 20/04/2020 08:24

Can anyone explain the rules around timings to me? I was late to the show and have tried to Google the rules without success on this element.

Presumably they are timed from when they leave a checkpoint to when they arrive at the next, and they show that each couple is e.g. '+6 hours' from the first.

However, they obviously don't then leave together? Are they staggered start times, so they're all leaving at a reasonable time of day and it doesn't matter, because it's just timed?

(The hotels are looking fabulous, God it must be so fantastic when they get to one!)

professorbean · 20/04/2020 08:26

I think 36 hours in the hotel isn't very long when you consider how long they've been travelling for!

ChipsAreLife · 20/04/2020 08:37

Oh just found this thread! I love this show!

I'd be happy for any of them to win but Jen and Rob. I just don't think she's very pleasant to him and I'm not convinced she loves him like he does her. I feel for them because the dynamic has changed and maybe she can't see him the same?

I live the uncle and nephew. I'd like them to win.

So I've been travelling there, admittedly over ten years ago. But it's more expensive than you think. The only cheap country is Bolivia. Mexico, Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina and Brazil were all quite pricey. In fact Rio was on par for London when we were there.

Bus travel is expensive too, they don't have many trains so buses have the monopoly, especially covering long distances. I personally don't feel like the budget was adequate to allow them to explore the sights which we want to see as that's far more interesting than the bus rides!

I expect Jo and Sam will have to pull out. I think Jen and rob have money because they've not done as much bar Igazu (which is incredible!)

IsabelleSE19 · 20/04/2020 08:40

My Sky box is showing that there's two more episodes, so not sure what the last one will be. Maybe a where are they now kind of thing?

OP posts:
StCharlotte · 20/04/2020 09:19

Not enough is made on how much they spend on food and water bottles etc

Quite a lot is made on how much Sam spends on food!

The uncle and nephew are who I'd like to win.

I still can't work out how last year's winners did it when they kept taking taxis and faster trains. Maybe they saved on overnight accommodation?

DH suggested we apply. You'd love us Grin With all the annual leave we'll be carrying over due to you-know-what we might not even have to leave our jobs! Sadly we have no back story so wouldn't get chosen.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 20/04/2020 09:23

Whitney, the deal with the timings is that when you arrive at a checkpoint you stay there for 36 hours exactly. They kick you out after 36 hours, which means that if team one arrive six hours before team two then they set off again six hours earlier. Hence the lead throughout the series is cumulative.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 20/04/2020 09:25

I’d love to see a where are they now of last series couples.

Whitney168 · 20/04/2020 09:26

See, I assumed that @IDefinitelyHaveFriends - but yesterday, I am sure there was a six hour gap between the first two couples arriving, but a one hour gap between them leaving?
