I loved this show last year and was very excited to see a trailer yesterday that seemed to show series 2 was coming soon and was located in the Americas? But Googling it has revealed absolutely nothing! I thought I'd start this thread so that fellow fans have a place to comment when we have more info.

If it is the Americas, it will stop the contestants just copying last year's journeys, although I must admit I think the Europe/Asia route will prove more interesting as there's such a great variation in cultures as you travel east. But I don't know much about South America so looking forward to being wrong, and I'm sure it will be just as exciting as the last series. It'll be the people that make it - loved Darron and Alex from last year and their changing relationship/bond!

I think that was episode five? I’m guessing there are six episodes?

peachypetite · 06/04/2020 07:10

My god I find it difficult to watch Jen. All she does is complain. Their relationship doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

theschoolonthehill · 06/04/2020 10:05

I don’t mind Jen. I think we are seeing the fallout of what they have already gone through/the deterioration of their relationship the lack of support and that she can’t cope anymore rather than her personality. I hope she was in the right frame of mind to have had the clarity to make the huge decision to go on national tv to salvage their relationship. I think she is vulnerable. I feel sorry for her.

awaynboilyurheid · 06/04/2020 10:27

Jen is always saying she wants her husband to take the lead etc Then the minute he actually did she had a full meltdown! Think her husband will spend all his time keeping her happy she is hard work.
Joe is amazing polar opposite to Jen , she knows her son so well she focuses on him but hope she also needs to look after herself too thought her face looked puffy and she looked exhausted last night. Loving this series! Thought first one was better but now we know all the characters it’s just as good.

ihatethecold · 06/04/2020 15:53

I really hope the mum and son win.
She is brilliant. I would have been so anxious letting him go off for good on his own knowing what he is like.
This trip will be the making of him.
I laughed so much when his mum asked if he was crying when they left the rural family. 😂

Luc1nda · 06/04/2020 20:02

I felt so disappointed in the sister when the brother was having a seizure. I can't imagine walking off and crying, leaving him to strangers and crew.

I'm afraid I'm also a bit disappointed in Sam. Jo really looked worn out at having to manage everything.

Samcro · 06/04/2020 21:43

To be fair seeing somone have a fit for the first time is very scarey. I am used to it now, but the first few times I didn't know what to do.

NCTDN · 06/04/2020 22:22

I guess there's 2 episodes left? I'm now wanting the uncle and nephew to win.
Much preferred the first series but I think that was also because I liked the variety of countries more.

purpleme12 · 06/04/2020 23:32

Yes I felt for the mum too. She focuses on Sam which is natural I guess but it just be exhausting

Bit fed up of the uncle and the nephew over analysing they relationship all the time

Feel bad for the brother and sister even more behind in the race because of his seizure!

MaggieFS · 07/04/2020 21:01

I've finally watched it, loved it again. Good to see more sightseeing and enjoying themselves.

Mum and son - great to see him get his time out, pleased she recovered from her wobble, and seeing how much he relished the work day made me realise how challenging it must be for him spending so much time on buses. Only thing was though, it didn't seem like they got paid as it was for boar and lodging? Enjoyment aside, that seems a bit of a waste of time?

Married couple - hopefully a turning point for her realising she needs to stop comparing to the old Robbie and look forward. Agree with pp that neither are perfect but she's probably more aware of her flaws (for want of a bette word, sorry).

Uncle and nephew - pretty straightforward week for them, but assume they're still the most spent?

Siblings - I was also shocked how she legged it, but I guess it must have been quite upsetting and everyone reacts differently. Good to see her take a bit of a lead later.

Other thoughts:

  • Didn't realise they had a medic with them, sounds like it could be quite an entourage!
  • buses have improved considerably since I was in that neck of the woods!
  • could there be two more episodes? If the next destination is Ilha Grande, it's then a hell of a hop to then go to Ushuaia all in one go?
ACupOfCoffee · 08/04/2020 11:05

There's 8 episodes in total for this series, so three more to come.

NCTDN · 12/04/2020 20:12

Why are they going north easterly when the check point is the most southern city?

Wolfcub · 12/04/2020 20:17

Jen being a nightmare again

Bunnybigears · 12/04/2020 20:19

Surprise surprise Jen has had a strop

Wolfcub · 12/04/2020 20:21

Loving the cousins in the old people's home

MaggieFS · 12/04/2020 21:27

They've strung it out by sending them east and I was surprised next week is Mendoza, so going back down the west side. I thought it may have been Buenos Aires.

Quite enjoyed it tonight. Very moved by the uncle and nephew, but also couldn't help myself wondering how they haven't managed to see anything so moving thus far.

Mum of mum and son, wow, even more backstory. Good to see him continuing to be positive.

DH laid into how annoying Jen is, unprompted, so I didn't let on I can understand her nor admit I'm a bit like her Blush

Sister had another over reactionary strop at the beginning. Not sure if it was a good thing she made the decision to share the bus, or should have understood the money situation first.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 12/04/2020 21:27

I missed a crucial bit: what was the mum’s health issue? I knew she was diabetic, was it that, or something more complicated?

purpleme12 · 12/04/2020 21:30

She had cancer twice

whatsthebestname · 12/04/2020 21:32

Lymphoma

Concerned12345 · 12/04/2020 21:32

Love this series but CANNOT GET OVER HOW SELFISH SAM IS with regard to his poor poor mum. It makes me so angry 😡

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 12/04/2020 21:35

Oh dear, from the very tail end of what I heard I did fear it was cancer. She is so strong.

Cocolapew · 12/04/2020 22:06

I don't think it's fair that the brother and sister didn't get some time back, her couldn't help being kept overnight in hospital.
I'm liking uncle and nephew more, uncle isn't as bossy as in the beginning.

purpleme12 · 12/04/2020 22:10

Yeah I thought it was unfair that they didn't get time back for being poorly

BrasserieBound · 12/04/2020 22:30

I went from being a big Jo and Sam fan to feeling irritated by their dynamic - she focuses on him and his needs to a martyrish extent, it makes me sad for her, must be lonely. I was almost relieved that she had a wobble, otherwise I'd have thought she was going to be canonized ! - though she would probably miss her canonization ceremony (and take it on the chin) because Sam was hungry or bored or hot. Her breaking point is high.

And then Jen I've come the other way - She was so not my kind of person but I've warmed to her. She wears her heart on her sleeve and , she's the opposite to Jo - overtly expressing her needs and wants is very natural to her. Her husband is mad about her, just wants to make her happy. Their back story is the most emotional for me.
I like the Emon and his nephew but find their back story a bit contrived, or a bit something and nothing. Would the nephew not have figured out by now that the uncle just wanted to travel, choose his own bride and go into his own line of business, given that he clearly did all of those things. Am I missing a key detail of the big reveal? I like them though.
I like Dom and his sister too.
I thought there would be 6 episodes this series too - think that would have been better.

Bunnybigears · 12/04/2020 23:13

Is there more to Robbie and Jen's backstory? I know he lost his hearing but he does cope very well, he could hear her in the canoe when she was facing away from him etc and his speech is very good. I understand very noisy environments wouldnt be good for him which is why she said they stay in more now than go the nightclubs etc bits there more to it did whatever happened cause him more problems than his hearing because they do seem to be making a big deal of it. I say that as someone with only 1 working ear.
