Am I the only one who is really irritated by his misogynistic comments? Tonight he made a 'joke' about Meghan Markle selling a candle smelling like a vagina a la Gwyneth Paltrow.
And when his sniggering husband asked what a vagina smells like he replied 'rancid'. Angry
This is not the first time he's made nasty comments, he's a really unlikable snide git.

And breathe....

Oh come on, pansy is definitely a homophobic term.

Agree with this. It was definitely used in the past as a name for gay men (along with fairy, fag etc), and while younger people may not think they are suggesting someone is gay because they are calling them a pansy, the link is there between being gay and being 'unmanly'.

The first definition on urban dictionary:

pansy
A sissy, fag, fairy, or one that is generally unmanly.

feistymama21 · 24/02/2020 18:57

I'm a gay woman and I would say the same thing about a penis. Would a thread have been started about that if I was on Googlebox I wonder?

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 24/02/2020 19:06

Urban dictionary? Really? The first definition of “woman” on UD:

TOP DEFINITION
Woman
A word describing what Justin Bieber will grow up to be, in about 9 years time.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 24/02/2020 19:08

Also, from the wise wisdom of UD:

TOP DEFINITION
mumsnet
skanks who wouldn't know sarcasm if it bit them on the flange

ChicChicChicChiclana · 24/02/2020 19:11

Nah, he believes in his own publicity. And is a misogynist. Get rid.

I'm sick to death of casual misogyny all over the internet. Take a look at the FB page "Rate my plate" - every second comment is "that looks as dry as a Nun's chuff" etc.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 24/02/2020 19:58

Thank you, I did wonder if it worked the other way round iyswim.
I stand by the fact he's a gay man and it was a joke 🤷‍♀️
If he was saying it maliciously or if he wasn't gay then I might have more of a problem with it.

doghairismyglitter · 24/02/2020 20:29

I don’t think he’s a misogynist. I think it was a joke. Maybe not to some people’s taste or humour, but I don’t think he stepped out of line by making it. Given his clients as a hairdresser are mainly female I would imagine, I highly doubt he said it to severely offend women or meant it as such.
I’d happily have him as my hairdresser and wouldn’t be offended by him taking the piss out of me in a jokey manner 🤷🏼‍♀️

ChicChicChicChiclana · 24/02/2020 20:41

Well as long as he's happy to accept homophobic comments as "a joke" then I guess that's all right then.

He's a great big pink knob with a ribbon tied round it afaic.

ivykaty44 · 24/02/2020 20:58

The producers more than likely originally spotted them on it. You can’t apply to be on Gogglebox, you’re headhunted.

So where have all these people been head hunted from?

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 24/02/2020 21:04

Some of the families on Gogglebox were headhunted. I think they do do “open auditions/applications” now though.

doghairismyglitter · 24/02/2020 21:21

He takes the piss out of himself all the time.

OldHarrysGameboy · 24/02/2020 21:31

I've seen adverts in the cheapo mags looking for people to appear on Gogglebox. As for jokes about penises, do we really have to go into how there isn't such a thing as reverse patriarchy, or indeed reverse racism?

Gay men certainly see the word pansy as a homophobic slur. Google The Pansy Project for eg.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 24/02/2020 21:49

Urban dictionary? Really?

Well the OED definition wouldn't relate to the usage in this situation.

OldHarrysGameboy · 24/02/2020 22:02

I suspect pp used urban dictionary to show that people the same age as Little Mix use the word the way that older people do.

OldHarrysGameboy · 24/02/2020 22:05

Here's an excerpt from Macmillan dictionary. Merriam Webster, Collins etc say much the same:

I love gogglebox. You sound too sensitive so dont watch.

Mrscaindingle · 24/02/2020 22:08

I think if it had just been this remark I may have thought it was a bit off but no more, I've been thinking for a while that this man is a bit mean and doesn't like women very much.
I also think Pete and Sophie are a bit snide at times but not as much as Stephen, apologies for getting his name wrong Blush

Megan2018 · 24/02/2020 22:08

Agree, he is horrible-we forward through his bits as we both think he’s just nasty and not funny.
I like the programme but it is tired. Loved the celeb version recently though.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 24/02/2020 22:35

I haven’t heard the word pansy being used in the manner described for years, until this thread.

Does the use of Urban Dictionary mean the top definitions for other words are valid and should be taken seriously too?

OldHarrysGameboy · 24/02/2020 22:41

Yes.

User56781234 · 24/02/2020 22:44

I love Gogglebox but have also been finding Stephen increasingly snide. Still, at least I don't have to listen to him and Christopher going on and on about gunts anymore. Shock

UD Gunt: Bulging area found on large older women between the waist and the genital area. Not quite a gut, not quite a cunt... The Gunt.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 24/02/2020 22:47

Yes.

TOP DEFINITION
Yes
Yes I'm no, No I'm yes, We no yes

Right...

OldHarrysGameboy · 24/02/2020 22:54

Stephen is definitely a gunt.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 26/02/2020 07:53

Ok, Collins dictionary.

Gogglebox Stephen Reed
EsmeShelby · 01/03/2020 17:19

Yes, that pissed me off. I'm thinking of complaining. It's rank misogyny isn't it?
